GWS future second will be a handy asset. Given how willingly Melbourne traded those late 30 picks, other may feel the same about the depth of this draft and we could potentially capitalize on this.

It frees our F2 which could see us net Gold Coast 32 or 36, keeping the GWS F2 for ourself (should have more value than ours going off this year)

We would have had initial discussion with the Bulldogs on expectation of the Dunkley trade, they obviously settled on our Future Round 1 as the centerpiece.
Our Future 1st and pick 21 for Dunkley with 39 (hopefully) coming back isn’t miles off the Taranto trade. This would see us carrying 2400 odd points from 5 picks, with those picks in the 30 seeming like the sweet spot for us matching.

Cats are going to bring in 3 former first rounders as well as be able to draft Jhye Clark in the first round who they apparently love so much. Super impressive trade period for a team that just won the flag.

Makes you wonder how they’re managing to afford it all (including salary cap dumps like Bowes).

From my understanding, we had to trade in a pick for next year to use our 2023 1st round pick now. The GWS 2nd rounder coming in means it unlocks Pick 21 + 1st round next year.

I could be wrong here but seems like normal business from us in getting all our deals done.
This is incorrect.

We could always use our 2023 1st round pick.

Trading in a second 2023 2nd round pick now means we can trade our 2023 1st round pick and a 2023 2nd round pick.

And this is in a draft where we can see clubs are more highly valuing next years picks.

Nah, I don't think it's too hard to manage.

What superstars are they paying big coin for? Cameron?

Half their team is 30+ so not on the same type of coin that a 25 year old emerging star would be.

We're going to need 21 for this year right. Future gws 2nd round pick does nothing for points this year right ?
It increases the deficit we can go into next year but not by as much as trading one of those second round picks back into the second round of this year's draft.

This is how Geelong stay at the top. Let all the other teams do the work and then bring those high draft pick players after the work has been done elsewhere. Smart, shame not many clubs can pull it off. A team that just won the flag being able to take on a salary dump though definitely doesn't feel right.

Yeah, none of this adds up how Geelong can possibly do these deals unless something signifantly underhanded is going on that the AFL is happy to ignore.

It was obvious we were never in play, but i was quietly hoping Bowes would choose anyone of North, Bombers or Hawks - at least you could understand how those clubs could do the deal and pay Bowes, but Geelong with there list and then also bringing in the lies of Henry and Bruhn and they'll still probably retain its shiny pick 7 to get that Falcons kid.

The four clubs out of NSW and QLD are still very much feeder teams to the AFL, particularly the newest 2. Shame the AFL continues to overlook this or rather not address it. I say it on gut feel rather than raw numbers, but surely there would have to be a disproportionate % of players leaving NSW and QLD compared to say the 4 teams in SA and WA and then even the numbers leaving VIC.

So we lost 260 points yeah?

not when you take into account the rnd 2 pick. Not sure we will still have it come 2023 but at pick 25 it’s a 600 point gain

If we count it for the price it can be used against any deficit, it's the equivalent of pick 36 or 502 points (all future picks are assumed to be the last pick in the round for future deficits). But more likely we can trade it back into this year's draft for more points than that.
