I just wonder where the Flogpies get the cash from for McStay, considering their salary cap was strained, forcing them to trade away some quality players (& end up paying some of their salary too if I'm not mistaken)! Plus Moore's squillion dollar long term deal...and potentially De Goey's....🤔

Could Darcy Fort be part of a new look forward line? He already seems to know our game plan and means we don't have to risk JoeD getting knocked around in the ruck rotation? I mean if McStay got injured I would guess he would be next cue out of the rack, why not if McStay leaves?

And his accuracy got him a record 🤣🤣🤣

You'd assume he would unless Fullarton or someone went past him

That was two years ago.

Plenty of players could have come off of contract, and have been re-signed on lesser contracts.

Beams contract is also off their books now.

Plus their list is full of draftee contracts now.

Still paying for Trelour.

Best case scenario, we win the flag this year, Dan still leaves, we get Fogarty for cheap and he ends up turning it on in a big way.

I think Fogarty is a really compelling case. You can't compare the below like for like for a number of reasons, eg age and experience, role in the team, quality of team etc...but he looks ok. Would the key difference at the moment be that Forgarty has more limited endurance/workrate capacity (I don't know much about him)?

If we were to swap McStay and Fogarty plus save 300k in wouldn't be the worst outcome, obviously not ideal but far from a disaster.

Anything over 180k is taxed at 45%, so he is going for about $55k a year extra. That's a lot, but Collingwood!
Who are in the middle of yet another culture s**t storm.

C'mon dan. You've never been a limelight seeker, Collingwood just isn't you.

Not next year it’s not. Tax brackets and rates change next year.

I know tax arrangements are different for athletes that win cash prizes - don't know if it's overseas prizes only.

Do AFL players have everybody tax rules our are they on separate rules?

I don’t know the first thing about tax law, but I’d be looking to salary sacrifice as much as I could, on everything I’m allowed to.

Car repayments, house mortgage, superannuation, etc.

Most employers don't offer any salary sacrifice options. It's predominantly a government domain.

I’ve looked after a few different sports people during my career and they don’t get different tax treatment to us normal folk.

Cash prizes aren’t tax free when it’s part of your job, if a poker player (if it’s their job) wins a tournament they’ll pay tax dollars on winnings. You don’t pay tax on things like lotto or scratchie winnings.

What they can do in some cases is have sponsorships, endorsements paid into other tax structures like trusts/companies.

Pretty much what any tradie/business owner can do which means they can get creative and minimise their tax to an extent.

Not really correct with a whole host of major employers offer salary sacrifice including all the banks, mining companies and every not for profit will also offer the option.

It’s the level/scope of the amount and what purpose you can sacrifice for that will be the difference.

My comments not at all related to salary sacrifice. Purely related to legislated tax
cuts that come in FY23.

Yeah I saw. Great if you are earning $180k a year, but that's out of touch with a lot of people.

What salary sacrifice is allowing you to pay off your mortgage tax free though.

I would like to hear more...
