I'd play him where his strength lies, which is rebound. Since he is coming back to AFL - he might prefer to keep things simple and go back to doing what he did best too. I'd play him ahead of Answerth and Rich.

Wilmot and Starc for shutdown, Kiddie and McKenna for rebound. Looks like Wilmot could be a bit of a hybrid which is a bonus.

Yeah that would make a good option. I just see Wilmot as a primary rebounder, not a shut down type. Though I think he has defensive qualities.

So I think you’d end up with McKenna, Coleman and Wilmot rebounding, you can’r really play rich and Starc in that backline.

Only solution I see is he holds Wilmot out or Rich goes into the 2s.

Good problem to have and McKenna comes cheap, not the type we need though.

Disagree, I think we need as much speed as possible added to our back half - if that mean we rest Rich, or Wilmot is eased into the team and doesn't play every week, then that is ok. Nothing wrong with having competition for places.

At the moment our ball movement is entirely based upon kicking which has worked well for us over the last 4 years, but unless you have the swans level of consistent quality kicks across the ground, you can struggle against the best team defences (e.g. Melbourne, Freo).

We really need to add another string to our bow and include some more run and carry with players talented enough to beat frontal pressure. At the moment we can't really play a chaos game, and we need to add recovery pace so that we can deal better with teams that just decide to play at breakneck pace against us.

It would also help if our defence would take intercept marks too, but we've totally lost that element since Marcus lost form when he got COVID.

I wouldn't be surprised if Richy is passed by our younger brigade in 2023, has been well down on his usual output this season.

I see this being repeated all over this board and I don't really agree. Hasn't been as good as last year definitely, but there are a lot of claims that he has 'lost kicking power and penetration' which I just haven't seen at games. Has had nagging injuries from time to time and I think that has affected things more so than anything.

The issue with Richy really is that with changes to the game such as the stand rule, we aren't seeing as slow ball movement from the best teams, so he's more of a liability defensively. Still a solid contributor, but the way the game has gone hasn't helped him (or Harris).

Where it shows up glaringly IMO is in his kickouts, he is too hesitant and not instinctive as he used to be, much rather Kiddy took the majority of kick outs now. He can still pull off the occasional sublime pass though.

I really don't see a difference there, and its not like Kiddy is super aggressive from kick outs either. Plus I'm very much of the view that the most likely team to score from a kickout is the team that is defending them - being conservative and hesitant is the safer play. Port adelaide's tactic of kicking it long to the point of the centre square used to lead to like 3 goals a game for us over the last few years.

Kiddy is probably a better bet to take kickoffs because when he is able to hitup a short kick, he has the speed to immediately run and handball receive and hopefully get it over the zone before it resets.

Rich been looking like he carrying something..My bet is lower back or upper hamstring area.
He seems to grab it a bit and they do a bit of work on it.
Still did a few great passes on Thursday.
Everyone now writing him off it seems
Actually Lyons, Zorko and Rich all seem hampered so could come back better start of 2023.

We trading in the three father sons you assume plus McKenna and maybe Dunkley
Would like to go for a tall key play. not sure how we trade in other players as we use up a lot of points on Ashcroft

Oh don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled at the prospect of McKenna coming, especially cheap.

As I said, presents and awesome problem at selection and probably just means Wilmot waits in the wings or Rich is wound down.

I suppose I just meant if he wasn’t going to fall into lap, I doubt a rebounding defender would be high on our wish list given we have Coleman and Wilmot devaloping there, along with other options.

I agree someone who can tuck it under their arm and run is essential, Wilmot changed our look and feel the 3-4 times he did that.

He did apparently wanted to play forward half at Essendon and he can score, it’ll be interesting to see where we use him.

Very good player and starting 22 for sure.

Pretty sure we're one of the best at getting scores and not conceding scores from our kick-ins this season

Most other teams don't do it better than us

DUNKLEY OPENS UPON ‘BIG DECISIONS’

Western Bulldogs star Josh Dunkley says the prospect of moving closer to family will play a key role as he prepares to make a call on his footy future over the next few days.

Dunkley, who had his exit meeting at the Bulldogs on Tuesday, continues to weigh up offers from his current club, as well as Port Adelaide and Brisbane.

I do not watch live TV anymore.. I stream everything. Do not watch reality TV crap from people who think they are famous.
TV or Movies you watch streamed when you want,
Even Kayo for footy. I normally pause at end of qtr then get coffee or something.
Come back skip to start of next. Skip all the ads and carry on.. I watch the after game stuff not the during break stuff.
Same if I watch AFL360 or something watch late skip the ads.

Edit one thing I watch on TV is the Grand Final and it hard to put up with ads :)

Channel 7 / commercial television is horrid. The only thing it has going for it versus Kayo is HD, have to watch Kayo in SD but it’s something I put up with to avoid ads and over promotion of shit reality tv shows for people with low IQs. Get regular enough buffering issues streaming Kayo (and Foxtel, using the old’s login), but again that’s something I put up with if it means not having to watch commercial TV. Grand final is problematic, as is Melbourne Cup (at least ‘the’ race) because commercial TV has the rights.

I'm poor I use livetv.sx to watch the games for free.

Early in the year he was dropped kicks short and getting chopped off by opposing players a lot more than he had in previous years, so I speculated at the time that he'd lost maybe 3 to 5 metres of distance off his kick and hadn't adapted. Now he plays it a bit safer, is still a fantastic kick, but isn't going for 60m pin point passes that he used to nail - now he'll still absolutely nail a kick 50m to someone's chest so it's not like "he can't kick" all of a sudden.

7 is the absolute worst, the football is pretty much the only time I go near it. The promos for their dreadful shows are horrific. I watch 10,SBS,ABC and 9 that's mostly it. 7's extra channels are sometimes worthwhile

I think he’s still got it, he nailed one of the kicks of the season to Ah Chee against Richmond. I’m thinking he’s definitely carrying something and still believe he’ll bounce back to be comfortably best 22 again next season. I think Answerth is going to need a big pre-season to put his name forward as a full time wingman with some of the halfbacks we’ve got coming through.

It's an interesting one. There's no doubt he's lost penetration and those long bomb goals aren't happening any more.

You don't lose 5-10 yards off your kicks in a season unless there's a physical reason.
