Yes there can only be one loser in this, they lose a club champion for nothing and we get to keep our picks, or they accept that stonewalling has left them poorer.
Any time a club gets a quality player to nominate them, they've basically already won. Brisbane have absolutely made hay on pick trading and will now need to share some of that bounty with us. If the trade ends up being F1 + 25 + F2, that's still a much better offer than the one we knocked off initially, even if it technically contained two firsts.

It's still well unders for Dunkley - especially if the F2 is linked to yourselves - but it's pretty obvious Brisbane's genius trading has improved the offer you will put forward.

Win/win despite the media circus?

If an F2 is included I think we’d want pick 39 back, but I haven’t bothered to check our points situation if 21 is traded out.

The second F2 gives us room to absorb a deficit or trade in for more points to match the fletcher bid so has some value in that sense.

We've already traded pick 25.

Considering we appear to be carrying too many picks vs list spots.

We’d be better off completely that as two trades. Pick 21 + F1 for Dunkley. Holding onto the F2 til draft day, then live trading for 39 after the Ashcroft match. The added bonus is us owning 4 picks higher, 39 will move upto 36 and allow us to match a bid at 27 with no defecit.

Yes but dogs have to be willing to play ball on that scenario.

On North trading out pick 1:

Having pick 1 at your club is valuable. Marketing, money, etc.
AFL want teams to bid correctly - where a player is, not taking into account things like marketing.
North requested priority picks.
AFL agrees to priority picks, but tells them they can't just let Ashcroft slide for marketing reasons. Trade or bid.

North aren't getting pick 1 anyway, why not trade out, pick up some value? Let someone else make a decision on Ashcroft.

Not saying that definitely happened. Just that it wouldn't surprise me.

Brad Johnson utterly embarrassed himself on that trade show tonight. Aside from almost being in tears, he demonstrated how clueless he was too as he couldn't see his own hypocrisy when discussing Dogs getting Lobb from Dockers. Just a fool.

How awesome is the Lester news

The Bulldogs supporters must be tired from all the mental gymnastics they're having to do to flip between their stances for Lobb and Dunkley.

Bulldogs supporters: the almighty Sam Power has set the price at two first round picks; it's up to Brisbane to satisfy us. Not trading in good faith.

Also Bulldogs supporters: Freo want more that pick 30 for Lobb? Ridiculous, Freo are asking too much. They should be more realistic, see the light, and take our offer.

I think the best WA kids are expected around those spots. Might be happy with that considering where they are as a club. Could be a tough couple of years out West.

They’re 100% going to continue playing the old blokes next year so they can get Reid anyway

Wonder which round our Thursday night game against the bulldogs at etihad will be next season
Will be in Ballarat. You watch.
Not my preferred option but a future first and future second (either ours or Geelongs) is more than enough to trade back into the national draft after matching Ashcroft to secure Dunkley if he nominated. Becomes even easier if they relax the rule re trading out future firsts and seconds as Cal Twomey has reported.

No club with a top 10 pick is going to pick him up given he can nominate terms/years and the opportunity cost is losing a chance to pick up an early draftee.
I don't believe nominees for the national draft are allowed to set their own terms? I think that only applies in the preseason draft...

From memory Luke ball was able to nominate a price when he went national draft rather than PSD to avoid being picked up by the dees.

Thanks Tom. Yeah wasn't sure either way. Hope you're right.

Can trades occur over the weekend? Or is everything off now until Monday?
I'm sure clubs can make a deal in principle but I doubt there would be anyone from the AFL working on the weekend to sign them off and make them official

You need to get Sam Power to move faster. We are rotating picks off at warp speed now. 25 gone already mate.

Real question is who is out of contract in 2024 that we can target, offer unders for and then split our pick to match a bid on Levi leading to another psd showdown?

We could help the GC little brother out, getting them out of 2023 F1 by giving our 2024 F1. Throw in a swap of future seconds too, why not. May help us draft a KP prospect first round next year.

I don’t think that’s allowed.

Not today, but when next year draft rolls in - why not. It'll be like trading future (2024) first for a 2023 first rounder.
