Sorry folks.

Wanted a place to discuss this trade period specifically because the talk is getting spread between the Bluemour Discussion Thread and the List Management thread.

I know the word from the club seems to be Blake Acres and then go to the draft but you never know.

We also have the compensation for Liam Jones which appears to be tied to Acres already, and the possible trading of the uncontracted Will Setterfield and contracted Paddy Dow if someone can convince him to leave.

We know the Bowes and #7 possibility has been shut down numerous times but that doesn't mean you can't discuss it until it is definitely dead.

We have looked at Adelaide winger Lachie Sholl. Is he still a possibility and for what cost?

I see that GWS midfielder Xavier O'Halloran has been left without a contract but still on the Giants list. Former U18 TAC captain and Western Jets captain. Inside midfielder with great athleticism and explosiveness from the clearances. Certainly hasn't improved statistically in his 3rd season, but he has maybe checked out of there, as per talk of a clash at a BBQ with assistant coach Amon Buchanan.

As a former Pick 28 and with no real stats to write home about, you'd have to think a nothing pick would get this done. He did play 14 AFL games this season and already has 33 behind him so must have been doing something right to get selected.

In the VFL this year he played 9 games, averaged 20 disposals and 5 tackles. Kicked 7 goals. Positionally in the VFL, his games read like this: Left wing, Right half forward, Right half forward, Right wing, Rover, Left Half Back flank, Centre, Left Half Back flank, Right back pocket. The guy is obviously getting jerked around.

Anyway, comment on the above or tell us about some other possible bargain pickups.

I selected X.O'Halloren in the Phantom draft here at around the mark where he was actually picked. I was a fan. Had a great kick on him and was a busy player who was a leader. Thought he'd be a quality component player.

But gotta say he has disappointed at AFL level to my viewing. Just can't get it enough or impact enough. He's pretty meh. You wouldn't argue about having him on your list as depth i suppose. But our list is tight as it is.

I'd have Dow and Setterfield stay over him quite comfortably.

The Jones comp will be interesting - if we get Pick 37 then we may just go to the draft with it and use our future third on Acres. But if the Jones pick is say 55 then we may just use that on Acres and save our 2023 third rounder for next years draft.

Based on what Pommy is saying we could pick up someone decent at 37 - so Picks 10, 28 and 37 would be a great haul for us in addition to Acres. We could also package 37 with 10 or 28 to move up slightly. While it’s good to go for depth we do want quality and if there’s a player we really want still available at Pick 7 then trading up will make sense on draft night.

I still would like for us to pick up Sholl because he did very well in the SANFL and he would come cheap. But Austin and co know much more so have to leave it to them.

My only knock on Sholl is that he isn't very physical. Maybe more than LOB but not much more. This is why I like Acres so much. He doesn't mind taking the hits and dishing them out.

Some suggest wingers don’t need to be physical but I agree with you...all players need a level of physicality. You can’t escape it...the game demands it.

Personally jot sure that we need Sholl if we are getting Acres. Don't want to waste too many list spots on wingers. Amon was deemed too expensive and Acres appears to have been deemed the best of the cheaper options over Sholl.

The thing that I like about Acres is that he appears to be a solid citizen and although not young has just had his best season.

Yeah I think if acres becomes a bluebagger the wing positions are sorted with Cottrell and lob still having more improvement in them.
Let's not count our chickens before they've hatched. I'd like to see Acres back up his good form this year, before counting the wing position sorted.

He's been very good this year but was meh before that.

Of course it’s not sorted ...as in for ever...

If further opportunities become available down the track then of course you consider them but for this year I think wing position is sorted if we get acres across.

Free agency starts today so I assume that we hear about Jones compo.

Trade period starts Monday I think. That's when, if the Acres deal is sorted, we should hear something.
I was going to ask about the Jones thing. Will we definetly find out the compensation today?

Agreed . You don't get to choose to be non physical in a final just because you are out wide on a wing. There will be contests and when it is your turn you need to go and at least halve the contest and get the ball out of bounds.

Everyone knows Acres will be the only trade, yet so many want to bang on with conjecture. Will be entertaining.

Surprised we haven't seen a seven-team trade hypothetical yet!

Acres seems the only move and maybe trading up somehow draft wise. Setters situation is interesting. If Dow leaves, maybe that’s the only way we make another play at someone else? I see him staying though. I’ve said in other threads, I’d love for another seasoned winger, but am happy we are at least getting one in the door. Other positions if we needed to look at someone during the 10 days would be a ruck and small or half forward.
