Sure, on an individual level it's important, but also lets be real. In the football ecosystem, it's a irrelevant feeder competition with all the benefits/drawbacks that has. Part of that irrelevance means it avoids those negatives you alluded to with the AFL.

Saying "take your head out of your arse and take it for what it is" and complaining about what reserves teams do in the league aren't compatable statements. The reserve teams are keeping in line with what the SANFL is all about. Being primarily a bridging league between the amateurs and AFL.
In the football ecosystem it’s a State league which thousands of individuals support. It’s hardly irrelevant and it’s not a feeder competition, that’s just an arrogant ill informed opinion.

Sure the juniors are feeders as players looked to get drafted, but if you’re not drafted it’s rare players get called up in to their careers at the SANFL. If anything it attracts players who can’t make the AFL.

You missed the point with take your head out of arse and take it for what it is. I’m talking about the standard of football and across all levels. If youre watching 3rd grade amateurs you know the standard of football will be at a certain level.

I don’t agree the Crows and Port should be in the SANFL, they should be in a national reserves comp. If they did leave the SANFL will be just fine, just because you’re taking 2 clubs out and some players doesn’t mean other players won’t be found and even if the standard drops a little, who cares, supporters will still enjoy it.

I think if an AFL reserves comp came in, it would further erode the SANFL.

AFL clubs would need greater lists, can pay more, which I think would then drain the talent. AFL reserves would then be the second best comp in the land. More umpires required at that level as well, coaches etc. Sponsors & TV would shift to AFL Reserves.

SANFL will still be there but a shell of what it is today and its former self. Hey South might win a flag then

Will effect every comp below the AFL in some way, not just the SANFL.

I'm not convinced people are that interested in reserves football. The VFL is basically a reserves comp already missing SA and WA teams and there is very little interest.

Not sure what your point is? Why is it irrelevant?

It fills a gap between professional footballers (including reserves) and parklands football. Trust me, it is a huge gap.

Most big team sports have a comp that fills that void in this state. Netball, Basketball, Cricket and Soccer to name a few. You better tell all those comps they are irrelevant as well.

Been a tigers supporter all my life..

Want the crows to win though.

But if the tigers win I wont be unhappy at all!.

Just need the crows to beat sturt again and I cant really lose.

But you watch the umpiring next week.. there’s no way the SANFL will let the crows win.

Just like yesterday.. all a tigers player needed to do for a free is put his head down and duck into the nearest crows player.
Yep , I’m the same now .. always want crows to win

Feel that a sanfl flag would be good for the club / squad

But reckon Sturt beats us this week with our N/A and the umps

The sanfl is well and truly cooked anyway and us joining afl reserves wouldn’t make too much difference

Reckon th

Most clubs are on on their knees financially

Good players can go off and get paid more to play country footy and do

Not all the sanfl’s fault , the wafl is even worse
SANFL clubs have a history of struggling financially, I remember when Norwood helped bail Port out decades ago.

Plenty of good players in the comp and the standard of football is still decent.

I thought Glenelg did what Sturt failed to do the week before....exploit our lack of height.

On SM-A115F using BigFooty.com mobile app
I guess with our most competitive ruckman going off early with a knee it made it hard for us to exploit that, we had two on the bench for the last quarter

That is actually a really good point.

Now compare the money and media coverage which the SANFL get to the netball, basketball, cricket and soccer comps.

Also you would want to take the N out of the SANFL as well. Either that or go the other way. The SAIFL.

Serious question, would Adelaide even risk Strachan if there’s a chance of further injury especially if there’s anything to the rumour about O’Brien leaving?
What rumour?

What rumour?
Theres a rumour he may ask for a trade to a melbourne club as he needs to further him Uni degree and can only do so at a Melbourne Uni..

but theres also another rumour that he’s just gonna wait till his AFL career is over and then do it…

Not a rumour. He wants to finish his medical degree. Has done 2 years, with another 4 to go.

In a recent interview he said the study is full time and he won't be finishing it until he finishes playing football.

Pretty sure you can still study medicine at Adelaide or Flinders uni's as well

I’m just repeating the rumour…

I also thought it was strange that it wasnt offered at any Adelaide university..

but also wondered why, in this day and age, he couldnt simply do it online if it was only offered in Melbourne.. just make sure he flies over to be there on important days..

Wasnt it something along the lines of neurology that he wanted to specialise in and it was that that he couldn't do in Adelaide?..

My cousin is a neurologist and didn't leave Adelaide.

He didn't start that until he finished his medical degree. Another 5 years of study. The only thing he left Adelaide for was his final exams. He could only sit his final exams in Melbourne or Perth.

It was just some BS Chinese whisper someone posted

Reilly needs to finish his medical degree first, if that's the pathway he chooses. The study is full on and full time. Hence he himself stated he would't be starting it until he finished playing football
