HHK is too good for the Ressies and an upgrade on Hayward. Latter would get a mid First Rounder. Former a late 2nd.

Not sure we can say HHK is an upgrade on Hayward.

I think HHK is talented definitely, but Hayward was great for us last year and can also shut down interceptors (honestly think his very underrated in our team).

All true. I'd hate to see Haystack go.but I was playing along.

It seems every year we have the get rid of Hayward month. He was literally our best forward last year and there is no reason why him and HHK can't coexist they are not the same player

So. Let’s go out on a bit of a limb here, adventurous responses appreciated

If there is hype around Mitchell and Konstanty this pre season, serious anticipation of what Sheldrick and Gould could do when given a chance, quiet confidence that HHK, Rankin, McLean, Amartey, Roberts, Francis have the tools, belief that Stephens, Campbell, McInerney, Rowbottom, Blakey, Florent, Gulden, McDonald the McCartins and the Warners will continue to develop.... whose's getting traded out this year? Because we sure as s**t can't keep them all happy.

Half our draft will be dictated by the academy, is now the time to get aggressive at the trade table and maybe chop a couple of regulars?
I would say anyone not in our best 22 can go and it wouldn't be a great loss. People are so enamoured by youth, but youth is what kept us at the bottom of the ladder for a few years, and youth is what's currently holding us back from going to that next step and being THE team to beat. We wanna be complacent and trade out established and proven best 22 performers just because we're bullish on what a few teenagers in the reserves can do, have at it. As long as we're happy to push back a serious flag tilt by another 3-4 years as we go full tilt youth boogie again.

So it's nothing against any of the players we've drafted in the last few years, or the longer-term squad players like Melican, Amartey etc. But they simply aren't as valuable to us as those in our best 22 if it came down to a situation where we had to lose one or two.

There are a few exceptions though, and they are mainly players who will be seriously required when a few veterans leave their key posts: Ladhams (when Hickey retires), Gould (when Rampe retires) and McDonald (when Buddy retires.)

Barrett (yeah, I know...) saying on the afl pod this morning that we are one of about 5 clubs that have already expressed interest in Tom DK.
Makes sense. I mentioned before but he would be the right replacement for Sam Reid - unless McLean or Amartey step up.

Buddy -> McDonald
Hickey -> Ladhams
Reid -> ????

TDK makes perfect sense but I reckon it's a bluff. Will distract while we put our most serious endeavours somewhere out of sight.

How about Todd Marshall? Comes out of contract end of next season.

I think a 2 ruck tandem with Ladhams and TDK could work, and it might be necessary if all 3 of Buddy, Reid, and Hickey leave at the end of the season. My problem is just how much ****in money we're gonna have to pay to get him. It'll be like twice what he's actually worth, he's a 400k ruckman who everyone wants for some reason

This is Buddy's last year. We have to be targeting someone.
We are in the window. An experienced full forward is required.

Peter Wright is OOC at end of 2023.

Turns 27 in September.
Can also play second ruck.

Now delivering on the talent he always had.

INB4.....Dodoro.

Thats great and all, and 50 goals is a good result playing for such an ordinary team.

But Wright has only been at the bombers two years, if there was interest we could've picked up back then. he literally got given away for a future forth, with Gold Coast paying (at least some of) his salary.

If he does want to leave Essendon there will be options in Vic. Collingwood could use a 50 goal FF.

I’m pretty sure the name Paddy will be very much in the running. Assuming he has another successful (concussion free) year in defence.

I suspect Essendon are just about to offer him a very large pay rise.
Let's be realistic.
Who else do they have to pay?
They must have a stack of free cap space.
So no way we could match that

Not a chance on earth

I think we should be following the GWS fwds a little bit.

Cadman, Himmelberg, Hogan, Derksen and Riccardi can't all play together.

The only one I’d want is Himmelberg
