This finals series signifies the end of a long 9 years of rebuilding. Success in this finals series could signify the end of a very long period of dismal performance. We may have made finals in 2013 but have not legitimately made finals since 2011.

The last 23 years we have only made finals in 2000, 2001, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013*.

We have been bottom four 9 times. We have been last 5 times.

Prior to 2001 Carlton was a team as a supporter you expected to make finals, it was strange and unacceptable when it didn't happen. We never expected we would go more than 10 years without a flag. We had never won a wooden spoon. We were the most successful side in the competition, at the time I think our win loss ratio was superior over all other sides bar Port Adelaide and we were equal most Priemerships, still are, with Essendon.

Since then we have been something we have never been. A basketcase, the worst side in the competition.

Legitimately finishing in the top 8 for the first time in 12 years is a big deal for the club although I feel that bombing out first week of finals would be a big kick in the guts. Sure we are a club starved of success and to many a little taste of that may be enough but to me it's all about making up for it. All the scandals, all the terrible performances, the complete lack of success and competance. I think this finals series is about that. Make finals, it kind of makes up for last season. Go deep into finals, make a prelim or a GF and it kind of makes up for the last 9 years of rebuilding but winning it. That makes up for all the bullshit, all the failure and all the dissappointment the last 22 seasons have brought us.

Swans are in the same boat as us. Had to finish the season really really well to make finals. IMO I don't think they are as good as us but that doesn't matter as it's about best team on the day.

We have them where we want them MCG. Wouldn't want them on the SCG. The longer ground makes a difference. A lot more running running up and down that all day and it's a place where we have played and won at a lot this year. I still think having too many players coming back late could be an issue though. If Cerra and Walsh can't run out the game and do the two way running we are in trouble. Team selection is going to be super hard.

IMO this could be a real shit fight. Physical, congested and contested which both sides would say suites them. Could be a low scoring game that goes either way or we might return to our best and win by 8 goals. Really don't know with both team's form being all over the place during the season.

I think we are at our most vulnerable now. I think with every game we win, the better we get going into this series. It would be a huge shame should we not get that opportunity to win and improve and build momentum going forward.

On the flipside though you could argue that Cerra and Walsh are relatively fresher than everyone else because they didn't have to endure the crash and bash of the last few wins we had... could mean they end up having the legs in the final quarter where everyone else is pooped. Of course they're going to be a little rusty after a long time on the sidelines but that one game back is going to help them immensely, it's only going to be a problem if they slacked off and didn't prepare properly.

Not to mention Cripps and Doc are going to be fresher due to having the last week off, too.

100%.

No doubt AR was overly conservative with bringing back Walsh and Cerra...they'll be ready. And some.

We have way more top end quality than them, and plenty of hard nuts now too.

Everyone just needs to do their job. I think they will.

Not sure many will be perceiving us as vulnerable frankly.

Personally, I think Big H is our wildcard.

He should be cherry ripe and gagging to show the footy world he's much more than a Robin to Charlie's Batman.

My only worry is some of our games eg Melbourne was finals like intensity.
Where dump kicks where needed due to the pressure we seem have fallen back into this.
We will need composure as well as pressure to win we will need go with some dare and risk using the corridor we can’t think pressure will be enough
We can’t play conservative and dump high balls to our forwards again
We need to play a delicate mix of possession and territory football
If we do keep our heads and move the ball as we have shown the ability too
We smash them and come out with a 4-5 goal easy win
If we play nervous dump kicks conservative solely contested we have nevouse 2 point win
