I don't really agree. He gets on the end of things because he's too ready to go out the back. Cunners and most of the teams gws 'formline' should be completely ignored. He was subbed off vs gc very sore. 7 tackles and a great defensive job vs Melbourne. Something mots just can't provide. 18 and a goal against the stingiest defense in the comp a week before that vs st Kilda.

So vs actual finals level teams when he's not sore and getting subbed off. He's been awesome.

Your posting it big fella like it’s a given
this is stuff off the dees board - unfiltered - classic case of shooting arthur schlesinger............

Lets face it, the last 9 wins have all been through adversity with a host of players injured. All players that have replaced the injured have stepped up and once the injured are fit there is always going to be selection outrage in these parts. [2] Paddy Dow,[3] Jesse Motlop,[14] Oliver Hollands,[25] Zac Fisher all stiff, one becomes the sub. Also feel for Kennedy whom is going to struggle to get a run at it with only mock reserves games. I back in the coaches to make the calls. Go Blues

These 4 emergencies were vital in our winning streak and are all runners. Shocked

That’s a bit melodramatic. They all had moments during the course of the winning streak but none of them even played in all 9 of the consecutive wins. The constants were Charlie, Cripps, Weitering, Newman, Acres, Docherty, Saad, TDk and Hewett. The team selected is good enough to win and even if we do lose it won’t be because of the omissions.

Was surprised about Marchy but can see the matchup reasoning.

All we ask is that every player selected plays with that manic defensive pressure that gives us the best chance to win.

The individuals chosen have all the talent, skill and footy iq to get the job done.

It is now down to effort, composure and teamwork.

Let’s smash em blue boys!!!!!!!

Kemp and Cincotta also played during the whole streak.

The only eyebrow raiser for me with this selected team is Marchbank in and Docherty to wing instead of HBF - even though Ive said all year that Doch isnt a top6 defender at Carlton anymore. He is however a big bodied defensive midfielder who can run between the arcs- and if required rotate back and also smart enough to position for an between the arcs contested mark - glad Cinc has kept his spot over other smaller less defensive option. Doc to wing also made it hard to select Hollands who is - unlucky. Fogarty and Cuningham are both strong defenders up forward and both can pinch hit in CBB - an advantage they currrently have over Motlop and Durdin.

I like the team selected - barring early injury to a mid - it is well balanced. The choice of sub will be 'interesting' - sans Kennedy ( the most obvious one for me) but not included I vote for Dow.

Yep this is (almost) Voss's in teh brain best 22 - for a final - only missing the possible selections of Williams/Kennedy and Jack Silvagni.

His game plan is unchanged - smash the crap out of the opposiiton and let Charlie/Martin and Harry do the rest.

Exciting times for me - never experienced a Carlton side that tackles or has genuine class in every line and can afford the 'luxury' of having 2-5 players all proven to be good enough to play a role in a final and not selected.

Go Blues.

When you see the emergencies as Dow, Fisher, Hollands and Motlop, then we are doing ok.

Kennedy and JSOS are unlucky to be injured / on the way back from injury.

I would choose Motlop as our sub.

Marchbank I think plays on Heeney.

Pace and pressure in the forward line with Fogarty, Cuningham, Owies and Martin.

Can almost play Walsh and Cerra rotating between one wing and midfield, and Acres and Cottrell rotating on the other wing.

Ding ding ding.
You quoting this and not seeing how others are surprised with the team changes is confusing to me. Hewett for Bam Bam is like for like, but Marchbank for Boyd on the surface is not.

Cripps, Doc and Pitto coming in were known before team announcements, and anything beyond 3 outs to account for their inclusion would warrant a surprise and discussion.

We've made a decision to go into this match taller, with less run, in a game that was looking like it'd be played in the wet. It'll be interesting to see who gets selected as sub.

Marchbank isn't less run than boyd as it frees gov up too, as it stands marchy is probably a better rebounder than boyd anyway -albeit not as good a kick. Doch isn't less run. Cripps isn't less run than Dow. Fishers 'run' is bloody pointless as a hb who cannot defend. I don't think there's any surprises there whatsoever if people take a second to drill down what's actually been selected. Harry runs really heckin'g well. Pitto and weits are basically the only non runners.....when have either not been selected when fit.

Run is less important in finals too. It's about contests. Especially in the wet. Aerial contests, ground ball gets, sticking tackles - I want Fraser brown on Dean Wallis. Not Fisher on Heeney....

Pies sub in ginnivan best moments were ground ball gets and tackles, loses points for the ducking but he provided toughness still. I hope whoever is our sub hits hard. Can't see that in mots this season.

You always know that Michael Voss likes the bigger athletes and the ones that can physically impose themselves on a contest
He likes to see himself [as he played] in the players that he selects

other than Matthew Owies & Adam Saad[[ extra strong buggers anyway ] every single player is over 185 cm in height and strongly built
you can almost foresee that Carlton are going to use their 1 Wood and try to beat them up in the contests and in the contests for around the ground
IMPOSE BRUTALITY LEAD BY CRIPPA and the inside midfielders in particular

If this wind holds up it’s going to be a bigger factor than any predicted rain, getting good looks at goal and marks close to goal and converting is going to be critical. We don’t want to be reliant on shots from goal from further than 40m out.

Also will be times in the game where we will be cramped inside defensive 50, need to be precise by foot without turning it over in dangerous areas.. Collingwood, particularly Moore used long tk the boundary very well last night, we need to be doing this and then resetting from a throw in rather than being too cute.

The coin is quite small and heavy, I don't think wind gusts should impact it too much.
Yeah there’s modelling and a paper on this. We often learn about bias in coin flips but it’s really difficult to bias a coin flip even if it’s weighted. Not the case when spinning though. Random fun fact

I am wondering if we've got the leg speed/run balance right for our biggest game in a decade. Cripps, Pitto, Marchbank in; Hollands, Fish and Dow out. Our lack of line breaking early in the year made the rest of the system break down. Swans outside run could hurt tonight, well see how we adapt.

This is a bomb it long side. Very worried

Interesting call for the sub no forwards on the bench - so expecting it’s Motts

Wonder what the plan for Blakey is? His straight-line speed can’t really be countered but I wonder if a high-IQ footballer like Martin can expose him?

We’re clearly going in with a plan to win the footy at the contest and considering how scrappy lasts night’s game was (aside from the odd score from turnover), it’s hard to argue against the strategy.

Motlop is the one I’m disappointed didn’t get a run - this time next year I think he’ll be a permanent fixture of the forward line.

Hollands is unlucky, but Doc was phenomenal on the wing whilst he was injured and it coincided with our hot run of mid-season form.
