I understand he is one (of quite A few) with niggles and is missing any intense sessions. But at this stage all of them are supposedly on track to be available for round 1 (except Hawke). But you would expect that as training ramps up and play a couple of practise games we will have some not get up?

Hate bumping this thread

Clearly however it seems Jack Henry will be in this..

No word from the club yet but several posters with words suggesting mid year at best and re aggravation of his foot issue last year.

Im sure club will take it very slowly with getting him back.

Best to Jack iin his recovery.

Henry’s older brother Jack injured his foot when landing awkwardly on Thursday and although the situation remains “uncertain”, Scott admits he is not all that positive.

“It’s a little uncertain at the moment,” Scott said.

“I always try not to predict how these things are going to go. It’s clearly complicated enough to be a problem, just how bad it is (we don’t know).

“I think we’ll know a little bit more in the next 48 hours. Our club is really forthright with these things once we know. We tend to be guarded when there is a range of possibilities.

“He’s clearly not playing in the next couple of weeks. I think I’ve tried to say we shouldn’t read the tea leaves but if you can detect the tone in my voice, I’m not that positive.”

Yeah look does not look positive on the Henry front, could be a carbon copy of last year where he comes in mid to late in the year and eases into hopefully a finals birth.

They knew pretty well straight away what the problem was likely to be. Specialists now looking at best course of action.

Surgery most likely but they’ll tick off all boxes first as that’s most likely half his season gone (at best) once the knife comes out.

Gives others a chance. Will be horses for courses each week, but it might open the door for someone like Cooper Whyte to get a look early in the year. Esava maybe gets a sniff if they need to go taller.

Anyone know where Neale is at? If it was just a sprained ankle he should be just about right. Would he be a chance to play Thursday?

I think they are happy with his progress…but hasn’t played for weeks. So won’t be thursday…

What it means for round 1 is interesting as only one chance at VFL practise game next week…if he doesn’t make that then suspect he is no chance for round 1

Of course if Ollie H plays another blinder then maybe no pressure? Shame for Scratcher though

I think we need a second tall otherwise we could be exposed by Moore and Howe. I'm not sure where Rohan is at but if he does not play then ideally O Henry takes his spot. Will be interesting to see what plays out. The good thing is if we are guessing then so is Collingwood.

Finally fessed up to Duncan injury. “Niggle” looks like will keep him out of round 1.

Also confirmed (interview with Lloyd) that some senior players will be left behind to do individual training ahead of round 1. (I had understood it could include Jezza and Smith - which would make for interesting forward line make up!)

Finally a little more comprehensive…

I suspect we will have a bunch of potential best 23 out first week…

“(Hawkins) had a really strong block of training last week and was involved in a lot of our main training session and was moving well,” Lloyd said.

“We will just see how he progresses over the next two weeks. We have said this all along and it applies to Mitch Duncan … we will do what is best for both Tom and Mitch and if it is round 1 it is round 1, and it is round 3 or round 2, so be it.”

Midfielder Sam Menegola was named in Geelong’s squad to face the Lions but didn’t play after feeling knee soreness following match simulation against Hawthorn a week earlier.

Menegola has battled through knee issues in recent years and will be assessed next week.

Utility Mark Blicavs also sat out the Lions game after a bout of gastro, while recruit Jack Bowes is working through some soreness.

Jack Bowes travelled up with us to the Gold Coast and has some general body soreness at the moment so we decided not to play him,” Lloyd said.

Jeremy Cameron and Isaac Smith are fit and firing despite skipping the Lions loss, while young ruck Toby Conway (foot) and tall Shannon Neale (ankle) remain sidelined.

That’s a real concern for Menegola – he seemed to have trouble last year with continuity when he was first returning from the off-season knee issues along with concussion concerns

You don’t want to jump to conclusions too early, but not ideal if he was unable to back it up during the pre-season from last weeks match sim to this weeks praccy match, and this is where he may find himself sitting on the fringes of the 23

It's a long season, hopefully 26 matches, and Sam is now a depth player anyway, but I think if he gets up, he'll get games at some stages.
