Ticky009 would make sense to unlock the Paddy thread. Weird you locked it tbh
The Mods made the decision to close the thread due endless speculation & theorising without any conclusion. It served no purpose until we have further comment from either the player himself or Sydney Swans.

Now that we have something I'll open up the thread again.

Early prognosis

The Swans seemed to get through their win over the Blues injury free, although the suspension to Parker means he'll miss the game against St Kilda after the bye. Rampe is back in full training and is closing in on a return, while Amartey is also progressing well. Ladhams' injury has been described as 'significant' while Sheather's foot problem has been revealed to be bone stress, making him a long-term proposition. Tom McCartin's immediate future remains clouded, with the club to take a conservative approach with his concussion symptoms. – Martin Smith

The Swans are hopeful of welcoming back Rampe to face St Kilda on Thursday night, with the co-captain back to full training in recent weeks. Tom McCartin will miss again but is showing signs of improvement, while his brother Paddy was last week officially ruled out for the rest of the season. Amartey has returned to full training after his hamstring injury, Mills is progressing well from his calf problem and Roberts is expected to commence running drills soon after his knee injury. – Martin Smith

Blakey was cleared of concussion against St Kilda last Thursday night, but he faces a test on his injured toe ahead of the game against Brisbane.
Co-captain Mills is closing in on a return, McDonald and Roberts are both back running again while Ladhams is back in the gym but is yet to commence running.
Tom McCartin is showing signs of improvement but his return to play remains unclear. - Martin Smith

The Tom McCartin situation is getting ridiculous. If he’s still got concussion from like 10 weeks ago, then he simply should not be playing AFL.

I know it’s not a popular view, but I’m starting to think we should be ruthless and get rid of both the brothers in the off season. Even better, they should take it out of the club’s hands and retire. It would be the right thing to do.

Paddy has to (retire). If not, the AFL should step in.

Tom is contracted until 2027. It could become a significant issue for the club if (and it’s only an if) he becomes inactive. Four years of a fairly highly paid player drawing from the salary cap, but not playing.

That’s obviously a worst case scenario. But one that does trouble me.

Just a question.... I'm sure there is massive fine print and a rule for this but could a player extend their contract for say, 10 or 15 years to balance out the remainder of the contract.

I realise the list spot is probably more valuable in the long run but I was curious

He didn't even get a knock. I suspect we are only getting some of the info. No certainty to play again imo

You can't put the expectation on a 23 year old to retire and give up his livelihood...

If a "normal" person gets injured on the job you don't just pack it in and give up a paycheck.
I don't think anyone wants tom to retire but assuming he misses this week, that's 7 out of 14 games he's missed this year whilst experiencing concussion symptoms. It's not great
