Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

A couple more days to go to actually do something, moving up to 14 was good and compo for Doedee, but that can’t be it especially losing Doedee and McAdam. Burgess is not a coup.

We haven’t strengthened our list, we’ve gone backwards whilst other clubs are rockin n rolling.

Our recruiting strategy can’t be targeting contracted players with multi years left.

Cmon Reidy, do something!!

It is a bit disappointing that we don’t seem to have targeted many or any fringe players that have shown a bit and might have a chance at being best 22 with us

If you can’t land a big name, then that’s the next best way of potentially improving the list short-term

Like Burgess? I don’t just want to add players for the sake of it, they need to fill a need. We usually pick up one or two of these types most off seasons, some has been great success stories (Hinge and Keays), some haven’t worked out (Crocker). I have confidence that Burgess can fill a role with us.

The price for Chol ended up being far too high for a fringe player.

I like Burgess as depth, but he’s 28 next season. There’s likely not a lot of growth in him. I’m more talking about guys 26 and under like Dow, Henry, D’Ambrosio, Coffield, Brockman (not those exact names, but in that vein of value) that could take the next step at another club, if given the chance

But yeah I’m glad we didn’t sign Chol to a 4+1, EH as depth for one more year is fine

Lol, rockin and rolling

Yep, fantastic comment Kramer.
Simple measurement tool for the trade period - has our list got stronger? Answer right now, is resoundingly No.
Need to bring something in otherwise we're drafting for kids who won't make much impact until 2026+
You don't think adding three first round picks strengthens our list?

And need to acknowledge that this is the stage of the rebuild we said we’d be targeting free agents/experienced players.

Looks like we’ve failed in that regard so that has to mean our rebuild is behind in the planning they put in place unless we can pull a miracle off in the next 2 days.
We have been targeting free agents and experienced players.

We’re choc full of fringe players that have shown a bit. That’s the last thing we need.

If we can upgrade to a top 6-8 pick, yes.

Picks 14 and 20 will be pretty meh though, as they blow out to 20 and 25 respectively.

That’s not the point, it’s about identifying a player and thinking ‘gee, we think he’s way more talented than his current club give him credit for, let’s see if we can unlock that potential’

Surely there’s gotta be at least a couple of players that we think that of around the league?

Not sure there are any uncontracted suitable players left. We tried with Day and Redman - and I believe “others” but those players have been offered plenty to stay

We clearly haven’t been able to build an irresistible story for anyone so far

It greatly strengthens our ceiling, but not our chances in the 2024-27 window when Daws is at his best
Agree wholeheartedly with Danger in Texas here;

Feels like we're on a trajectory towards Pre-Lims and Grand Finals in 2025-2026 (maybe even 2024?!?) and I don't get the sense that drafting 18yo's this year will benefit us in that regard (Also the 2023 draft looks bereft of Sth Aus talent)

Hence I think Reidy should be using our current draft capital to bring in ready-to-go kids 21-25yo as they'll be 70-120 gamers when we're shooting for premierships. Harrison Petty... bewdiful idea. Clayton Oliver... 100% worth a crack. Few other ideas;
A: I'd try to pickup Elijah Hollands for a bargain and then have Darren Burgess put some work into him. He was an underage champion but did an ACL and hasn't got many minutes in a midfield dominated by Rowell, Anderson and co.
B: Throw a lifeline to an opportunity starved big-body midfielder aged 21-22 (doesn't have to be a South Aussie)... eg Paddy Dow, see if he needs a fresh start. He could grow into the serious midfielder with the big frame we are looking for.
C: Use the 3x (back end) 1st Round Picks and try to extract a player who isn't currently being offered up but would add to our list strength over 5-7 years and has SA links - eg: Lukosius from Gold Coast, or Sparrow from Melbourne, or Zac Bailey from Brisbane.

If not those names, who else are you actually talking about? Because none of those are the type of players we actually need. Also, is Dawson only playing elite footy until 28-29? Elite midfielders can play at their peak until 32-33, if they manage their body well
