Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Can Serong and Young can convince Sam Flanders to come to Dockers? Same draft and played for Vic country right? But not sure they are close friends? Any way Sam Flanders not signed yet and not in best 22 and in good form in VFL.

Word is that Serong and Flanders are good mates, Would like Flanders playing essentially the Sam role that Switta plays for us now

Nah * that let him go to the toast.
If you’re talking about Sharp I agree.

Brockman would be a nice fit for Freo. Don’t mind Ruscoe. Love to get Flanders but being a VIC means their are tons of clubs lining up for him.

Georgiades seems more likely to end up at WC but a couple of VIC clubs have shown interest.

Sharp I care less about. Henry has shown more and I said that before he has had a recent run of decent games.

You must have missed that they have brought Flanders into the best 22 and he has been amongst their best the last 3 weeks with 27-27-24 disposal games in the seniors.

Even if he wants out, he is another short midfielder and that's not the type of player we really need.

I might have missed. I was reading news from 1 month ago

ive never really seen him play tbf but hes not getting a gig at the suns at the moment is he? not sure we really should be targeting another developing winger
he's only not playing because they know he's leaving. why would they play someone who wants out?
with Henry most likely out. Sharp is a free swing and clearly freo like him

Is this speculation or do you know this for a fact? If a player is best 22, you play him, leaving or not. It would improve his trade value, too.
he's been playing well at VFL level. They wanted a future 2nd last year for him for points, once a player is out the door why play him?

Unless he signed a contract that is heavy on the match payments. If you're stuck paying his salary anyway you would play him. If the new coach suddenly plays him then it will be telling.

he was young when signed new deal I say he's on good match payments, they have lots of young midfielders, they can try on wing

Sharp had 35 disposals and 11 marks last week in the VFL.
GC won by 107 points. Chol kicked 6 goals. Weak opposition. I'm not convinced the VFL is really that much better than the WAFL or SANFL. We've seen how guys like Wagner don't do any better in the WAFL than the VFL. They have 21 teams now, and GC and Brisbane are on top of the ladder with what are presumably local QLD players as the top ups. Doesn't strike me as a standout second tier competition when the talent is spread over so many sides.

For all the talk about new players here - how important is good coaching?

Craig Mcrae went out this year and took Oleg Makhov, the definition of a list clogger/scrapheap player, from Carltons VFL team. Delisted by the mighty GC suns.

He’s just signed a 2 year deal with the best team in the AFL and will probably be a premiership player in 3 months time.

Now - if Oleg Makhov had joined the dockers as a DFA last Feb, would he be as good a player right now? I highly doubt it

Brodie was last year.

He really has not been that good. Just fills a need for them.

Literally Brodie for us last year.

Why not? We got the best out of Lobb and Acres.

For me Brodie has always been rated levels ahead of Makhov. He’s a former top 10 pick that was at one point considered for pick 1 in his draft year albeit briefly.
You can’t deny Mcrae has taken a lot of players selected with obscure picks in the late draft rounds and make them look world beaters at times.
Murphy
Mihocek
Makhov
Noble
Josh Daicos (pick 55 amazingly 🤔)
Frampton
Mason Cox (the Guy was just about done 2 years ago)
Ash johnson
Mcreery
Lipinski

Even someone like Bobby hill is a different man since he went there

You can literally say the same thing about fremantle last year though?

Ryan
Schultz
Pearce
Cox
Darcy
Switta
Walters
Walker
Frederick

All picks 35+ and all had games last year where they looked incredible. Your argument isn't very good at all.

Trouble is most of the guys you have mentioned played well before the present coach. Good recruiting.
Markov was chosen because they needed speed. It is also easier to play well in a team that is humming along.
Agree on Bobby. But as mentioned Acrea and Lobb improved under our current system.
Mason Cox was always in and out. Plays well for periods then drops off. He had good periods under Buckley. One of his best games was in the final when Buckley was coach. He is very good in patches.

Plus if you think Brodie was always good what was Josh Daicos ever gonna be
