Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

The only problem is that we signed Treacy to 3 years on decent coin. If we add another KPF than we have Tabs and Treacy sitting on the sidelines. Darcy would net us a good pick but I have no clue who we would even spend it on.
I dont think we know how much coin he's on. Jackson can be moved more into the middle where he's sorely needed

I've tiptoed around it but imma lay it out, Naughton will always be a vastly better player than McDonald, if we can go to fairytale land and choose one, it should be him
Ew, who has been saying McDonald is better then Naughton?

Garlick identified Jackson as a ruckman in his interview. He said it twice. I thought it was strange as he is really playing as a forward who goes through the ruck. Might be reading too much into it but it did sound strange the way he said it.
No one calls Jackson a forward

Never seen Logan Mcdonald play a top class game. He’s just going to be a run of the mill key forward.
I swear Shane Kersten has played more good AFL footy than LMD.
Naughton is quality but I’d still prefer a top class small forward.

People think he’ll better eventually, he’ll be a solid to good player at best, doesn’t have any special stand out traits

LMD has time before we compare him to Kersten jeez, bit too far. We have definitely been chasing KPFs still

I reckon LMD will explode next year when buddy retires.

Yeah look a bit harsh by me there on Logan to be fair!
But he’s not a pick 4 level player. He’s a B grade key forward that if you got him with pick 25 you would be happy with his steady progress. He will play plenty games and could have a similar career to someone like Tim Membrey or Dan McStay. Solid reliable, good citizen.

I don’t, he just doesn’t do anything elite, he’s like Tabs with a better football brain. Nice player, I’d like him but Naughton will always be better
I agree with the others that we need to add some small/medium forwards to the mix before we add some tall timber. Walters is getting old, Sturt will probably be moved on and Switta has never kicked over 11 goals a season (this year will be his first). Our forwardline is decent enough to kick 100 points when the mids get on top but there are improvements to be made. flipping Kozzie has to re-sign with the Dees didn't he.

I know we are running low on list spots but Sturt has been NIL basically all season, not too sure he will be cut tbh

I think wakojako is correct. I’ve seen some people here saying Hamling and Wilson should get extensions for christs sake. Should we contract the entire list for 2024 altogether and pass on pick 21 and pick 38?!

That’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see it it pays off for him 🤔

he's been playing well at VFL level. They wanted a future 2nd last year for him for points, once a player is out the door why play him?
Why not play him? It’s not the NBA and he isn’t Kevin Durant. He’s a fringe player desperate to play league AFL and he hasn’t been good enough. Been named emergency maybe once or twice. Yes he played well on the weekend (I had a look at the highlights) but they were playing witches hats.

I see no feasible reason why he wouldn’t be playing if good enough. I keep reading you saying he’s not being played because he’s on the way out. If that is the case GC are more stupid than I thought possible. All it is doing is driving his price to basically delisted FA, which then makes the hardball negotiations by GC extra odd (declining a good F3 offer).

He could be an option as a rookie or Supplementary pre-season rookie selection. We have a decently tight squeeze on primary list spots. I just can’t see it happening to be honest. A downgrade on Henry.

Reminds me of Blaine Boekhorst - a good to very good WAFL player who struggles with the step up to AFL.

I don't consider him a ruckman in our team.
He's definitely not a number 1 ruck, that's for sure. Was made abundantly clear in the Richmond game without Darcy.

I consider him a forward/ruck.

Not yet, anyway. Don't forget he's still only 21 and most rucks don't start putting it all together until their mid 20's. His greatest value to the team lies in roaming wherever he's needed most as a positionless monster, mid ruck or fwd, but I think he could easily be a no 1 ruck in the near-future. Can't see how he'd be any worse than a Nankervis/Pittonet.

So let’s say Henry asked for a trade last year year & didn’t happen, would you play him?

Lobb was different as freo didn’t have many forward options!

They are a young side trying to stop the next wave from leaving the club. Why would you invest time and play someone that is already out the door? Will power is one they are trying to keep so play him. Also Atkins and Ellis who they got over on good coin to play the wing, so maybe they feel the need to play them.

I still remember his draft year freo were right into him even interviewed him the day before.

What Sharp has shown so far has been pretty ordinary. Even in his best game statistically, it was just ordinary football at best.

They're 30 and not getting played, different situation

(Yes hammer is in this week but it's taken 5 outs for injury)

The obvious four are Hamling, Wilson, Colyer and Benning. Doesn't mean you don't play em this season if required.

Anyway it's not going to be just four players going out and I think most, if not all, our rookie list gets re-signed. Unless a few players leave in trade period and/or we don't bring in anyone in trade ourselves some people on here are going to quite unhappy at one or two of the changes we make to the senior list.

Personally I think if our current contracts didn't exist (i.e. every player was out of contract) I'd keep Sturt but as it stands I find it very hard to see how he stays on the list. We'll move on 5-6 absolute minimum.
