Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Yeah I’ve looked into this just now and I don’t think we will get one,
Two comparable deals in recent years were Luke Dunstan and Tim O Brien, both 2 year deals.
Both didn’t get any compo picks.
Sydney would need to be paying 31 yo Joel some serious money to trigger one

The only third round pick compensation examples I could find were Jake Kelly, Isaac Smith, Cam Ellis-Yolmen and Alex Fasolo.

Now that's interesting because Isaac Smith was 2 years for a 31 year old, but the rest were all 3 years and younger.

Sharp I like simply because he fills an immediate need. Is young. Has some mates on our side. If NOTHING else he’s going to create a contest for whoever else it is that may fit the wing position.

I’d like to see Stanley give it a massive shake this year. He moves like an AFL player.

Him and Sharp battling for a spot will be good. NOD needs to have a cracking preseason.

Wing spots up for grabs. If we genuinely think we’re a chance at the top 4 then perhaps we actually need to magnet shuffle and someone like Brayshaw moves to the thing and Brodie back into the middle

Smith would've got special favour for being a 3x prem player I reckon

Surely we can talk up how hammer is a prem player

I'd like to see that. He can run all day and is great two way. Brodie would help us doing better at stoppages if Fyfe unavailable. It's not like we would be taking Brayshaw away from the ball. Just keep him an outside player which he is anyway when you have Fyfe, Brodie and Serong as options. Also an instant improve on Henry. Need to find space for Ras anyway. We didn't pick him top 10 to sit him on the sidelines for too long.

We talk blithely about losing Hamling (and I agree we should have only offered him one year) but are we really confident the kid Davies will make it as an AFL player. Seems a long way off it at the moment.

Losing Hammer would be a massive mistake this year.

The best like for like are probably Nathan Brown, Tim O'Brien and Jarrad Waite who all got no compensation.

Not really, but there's a decent chance he could do a serviceable job if he has a good pre-season.

I have plenty of confidence that Ryan could do a job though.

I have confidence in Ryan until I remember watching him vs JUH. That was painful.

We were between a rock and a hard place. It would have been reckless of the club to offer him 2-3 years like Sydney have.

If it weren't for Sydney losing one or both McCartins and North losing McKay and Logue, then Joel would not be in demand and likely would have been content with a year at Freo.

All up, we are only losing some depth. We have cover. The big loser here is Peel.

I'm not copping that no-compo rubbish. If someone is getting him to move across the country, we are getting some kind of compo for him. Sydney are throwing bucketloads of money around, they would be overpaying and the money required for him to chose North would be nutty I imagine

The good thing is it will either be pick 45 or else nothing. That would be a useful selection after all the bidding is done
