Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Standing by my unpopular opinion that this is a good result for Fremantle football club.
I’d be livid if we gave hamling a 2 year deal.

Only nagging doubt is - should he actually be playing ahead of Alex Pearce? There is only room for one of them in the 22 and should it be Joel?

Ok who becomes depth first cab off the rank. Davies will be a player but in 2024?

Chapman, should be playing Rnd 1 anyway but if cox or Pearce get injured, he plays taller with Hughes or Ryan playing 3rd tall again.

Edit: if both Cox and Pearce are injured, we throw Davies in, but he probably plays 3rd tall and Ryan plays second tall.

Hamling would be good for Sydney, although we’ll be leaving ourselves open if Cox or Pearce come down with an injury, Davies needs more time in the 2’s. Also shutting the door of playing all 3 and swinging Cox forward if we cop any injuries to our tall forwards.

Reminds me of Alex Silvagni a bit, just surplus to needs and would not hold a grudge if he left for more opportunities.

I'm happy for Hammer. 2+1 and likely B22 is too good to turn down. Half a chance at another flag too.

Where is this Billings talk coming from? He wants out sure, but would he come to WA?
I think someone mentioned a tenuous link of the trade board Billings or Henry thread.
I know it’s Cornes but they have a point about being quiet.
Kane makes plenty of good points but this isn't one of them.
We don't speak enough about the dockers enough on this side of the country, but when we do, we make sure it's about trading sean darcy.
🤣 Quoted for truth and hilarity. It's literally the only thing anyone has to say.

I really hope I’m wrong but I’m already thinking we should plan ahead without Chapman and if he gets his body right then it’s a bonus. Just worried that he could be one of those injury prone players. Too many of those have been on the list in the past and all you’re left with is “what could have been”. Maybe I’m overreacting, I hope I am

Also, IDGAF what Morris thinks. His only utility is to give news, his opinions are not remotely interesting.

Always a risk but there are also plenty of players that never get on the park for the first half of their career and somehow end up playing 200 games. Let's hope he's one of those.

Hamling needs to be in the top 70% of players paid in the AFL to trigger a third round pick as compo.

It’s not impossible. He’d need to be getting $600k over 2 years from he swans. Unlikely I’d say.

I think it’s very likely. Would have to be decent money to move his family over to the other side of the country.

I don't begrudge hamling a thing. I'll always admire him the dismal days of 2017 when he seemed the lone thing between us and 80 point beltings most games. That he didn't finish top 5 in the doig that year is one of life's mysteries
He's gotten some of his closing down speed back, but prime Joel Hamlings speed in defence was outrageous. There's a game I remember from 2017 vs Collingwood (spoilers: we lost, but it was close) where towards the end of the game he sees someone 20m free about to get what should be the easiest mark inside 50 of their life, switches off his opponent, and gets an insane spoil he had no right to get.

Top 70% of earners would be above $300,000 a year.

Kinda a kick in the teeth though considering he was on a decent amount of coin and he was injured for most of the time. Now as soon as he is healthy he leaves.
I do get this but let's be honest

He was on the chopping block to start this year, if he takes 1 year and doesn't play then he might be shit out of luck next year

It's super frustrating he wasn't healthy during his mega contract but right now I can understand him going
