Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

That Johnson made it to the second round is a miracle and any changes to the draft order would most likely have altered that outcome.

Jacob is out of contract end of 2025. Revisit it then unless he doesn't play more than let's say ten games between now and end of next season.

We also like, need Erasmus to come on because he fixes one of the things we all are moaning about on here - contested ball. I imagine / hope he gets games towards the end of the year but match committee would likely have to be dragged kicking and screaming to play both Ras and Johnson in the team given the age / experience.

That foot injury has turned out to be quite beneficial for Johnson because although he didn't get to debut last year like Erasmus, he spent it getting his body ready for 2023 and onwards. Erasmus has the potential to be a gorilla contested ball winner - and it may just be a side effect of him being so tall, but he still looks like a skinny teenager to me compared to Johnson.

The time for drafting a key forward with this list is gone I think. Andy will literally be 30 by the time any KPF we draft this year (without a good pick either) is close to what we need, and that’s if they are any good and not a Schache.

Drafting is the cheapest way to bring in talent, it’s also the slowest.
He looks like he has got what it takes, we need to play him

Himmelberg as free agent seems like a good fit to me. 27 years old, would work in well with amiss and has the flexibility to go back if Cox or Pearce gets injured.

If you could get him for what we offered Logue you could effectively look at it as:

Himmelberg, north 2nd > Logue

Gresham probably the only other free agent I'd have interest in.

Pickett for a 2nd and a future 1st I'd do.then you are effectively turning Logue, 2024 1st round into Himmelberg, Pickett

I don't think there is much more out of contract that fits our needs

can't believe MJ is 193. That's a very large unit and bigger than all but our KPP.

We need to remember Brayshaw and Cerra were drafted in 2017. they’ve taken 4-5 years to be better than average players

Johnson and Ras have time
I want these 2 lads be so honed that they will be impossible to not be picked. Their attitude is believed to be first class and very professional. Can see them both going a long way

Brayshaw was top 10 in the Doig in his second year I think

Think freo should keep an eye on Grainger-Barras has another year on his deal but could come cheap…
I think we have had this conversation before Swiggy about Josh Schache. DGB might be better than Schache who will almost certainly never play for the Dees but he’s still not what we are after if he can’t get a game at the worst side in the league.

It was interesting that the dees drafted Matthew Jefferson (a pure key forward) with pick 14 last year.
Having JVR already in the sheds wasn’t quite enough for the along with all the established KPF they have.
Maybe they gave an eye on JVR potentially getting homesick in a few years.
If Pickett wants to come here i think we have to make it happen. He’s as close to a home run trade as you could get despite the draft capital price. Salary is probably the bigger issue with him.

Still think DGB would be fine for future. he's 20 hard to start comparing him to anyone yet. No many 20 year old Talls walk straight into any AFL side.

Quietly worried both Treacy and Sturt will be requestion trades and I wouldnt blame them seeing Tabs and Banfield get consistent games ahead of them.
Losing Treacy would be diabolical.
The last thing we need to do is go to the draft for another KPF and wait 2 years
to develop.
With our first pick there will be quality small-medium forwards available.
Guys like Delean, Duursma, etc, one will slide.

what other clubs are going to go after them? Sturt stayed because wasn't much interest in him.
Tracey will need to prove himself in WAFL first

Will never understand the obsession with Sturt among freo fans. Pre-injury sure, but he has not gotten close to that level since.

Sturt is LUCKY to still be on an AFL list. You really think he signed a one year extension with us if he had other clubs offering more?

Treacy will request a trade if not played, and will have suitors. He showed more in his first few years than Sturt ever did. We need to start playing him or he'll leave. We drop he too early imo. One bad game and he's dropped. He never gets continuity at AFL level apart from his first year.

And yet I believe Taberner was pretty ordinary in the St Kilda match , He's still here .
Is it 1 goal so far this year from Tabs?
If he is our best KPF as others have stated , man are we in big strife!!
