Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Here’s a laugh, Pickets out of contract, mates with Henry and Melbournes got our first rounder. Henry to the Dees, Picket signs JVR comes home.

That's not unreasonable but they'll still want our first round pick next season with Henry for JVR given his contract remaining.
Plus they will need a tall forward, so you'd have to throw in Taberner.

Because we will have one too many AFL level tall forwards by that point anyway.

I think Taberner is locked into WA, but how would the board feel about:

Liam Henry, Matt Taberner + 2024 2nd for JVR?

Obviously preferred players are:
Naughton
Pickett
JVR

In that order.

Why would Melbourne want Tabs, they have an injury prone aging tall forward already in Ben Brown, far more likely is Henry + Treacy for JVR, swap future 2nd and 3rds to make someone feel like the win at the table.

Based on how things look right now, I think I'd do that trade for JVR.

I would bite their hand off.

Essentially a 2024 2nd for JVR

What do we need to give up this year to have Kozzie and Motlop playing in purple in 2024?

Next years first is out of the equation.

Melbourne would laugh us out of town for even thinking that might be interesting. a Guy who’s close to delist material and has been dropped to the magoos, an injured ageing once ok fwd who is a year or 2 of retiring/delisting and a 2nd rounder for a young tall key tall? We’d need to give them a top 10 pick minimum.

If we are chasing a forward to make us better while amiss and Treacy develop, as much as it would suck, jack darling is the right type. Would instantly make us better, and give the eagles a pick in the 30s to help rebuild. That’s the sort of player / club we should target.

gross.

I don’t particularly like to reflect on what could’ve been but….
2017 draft, we get pick two for Weller - we had a desperate need for a tall forward - hindsight we take Brayshaw at 2, split pick 5 and get Allen, even Naughton…..we would be a very different side for key positions right now.

What if’s like that are stupid.

Yeah obviously hindsight but as others have alluded to we really should have either split p5 or upgraded our 5 to 2 with GC and taken an extra 2nd(s).

Would not of been inconceivable to end up with brayshaw Allen and Taylor- a lot of people forget he was also in that draft and at p27 as big a steal as Allen

We obviously need a higher quality small forward brought in but I'd hope we're keeping close contact with Brockman too.

Wanted him instead of JOM last year tbh.

Haven’t watched Hawthorn this year tbh and probably won’t until they play us but JOM has been a disaster so far. Almost would’ve preferred trading Meek for their future fourth (in hindsight that pick become pick 45 which isn’t bad for Meek).
