Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Everyone in here is permanently traumatised by being a Freo fan obviously; Plotting how we can get Tyler Brockman. Sure he might be good, he probably won't be. Small / Mid forwards from the 18th placed side where its coach is trying to it bring down the inside as revenge for being stripped of it's captaincy as player? Pass.
BTW JOM is playing good footy its just only for 50% of the games because he can't run them out with his dodgy knees. We shouldn't have traded for him; there must have been fantasists in the admin imagining we could win it all in 2023 despite have a best 22 average games of like 80 (FFS). If we can somehow have him still on that park next year and the year after though sh*t when he is running through the pain barrier he is the dominant player he could have been before the patella at GC.

If we are chasing a forward to make us better while amiss and Treacy develop, as much as it would suck, jack darling is the right type. Would instantly make us better, and give the eagles a pick in the 30s to help rebuild. That’s the sort of player / club we should target.
Nice thought except apparently he's an a***h**e.

Trading for him isn't even the main issue. Two years with Hawthorn paying the chunk of it would be ok. But dudes got 4 years?? Such strange list management decisions. It's like no ones watched him since he played at gold coast.

I don’t particularly like to reflect on what could’ve been but….
2017 draft, we get pick two for Weller - we had a desperate need for a tall forward - hindsight we take Brayshaw at 2, split pick 5 and get Allen, even Naughton…..we would be a very different side for key positions right now.
Plz remember there were 18 picks between pick 2 and Allen ie there are a multitude of clubs that could have taken him and now with the benefit of hindsight...it's so easy!

I’d agree with this actually and have said it here before several times. He will kick more goals than Tabs and Lobb combined over the next 3 years in the AFL. Would anyone on here bet against that??
People need to get over their hatred of other clubs and certain players. The actual players themselves are very often mates across several clubs lines.
I can guarantee you all there are several dockers that are quite friendly with eagles players and vice versa. Not sure where darling fits in all of that but it doesn’t really matter. Matt Johnson and Jordan Clark were MASSIVE eagles fans growing up. WGAF now?
If JD kicks 40 goals a season for us, for 3 years till amiss/Treacy/Kuek/whoever get up to speed, then get him in.
No prob whatsoever from me anyway.

Peter Bell said we have had interstate players enquire about possibility of coming to Freo.

If by any world of possibility one of those players is Harry Himmelberg who is a free agent we need to get to work and make that happen. He is exactly the sort of player we need. A very good mobile forward who can also play back in the event of injuries.

With Fyfe out of contract and a couple of other changes, we should have cap space to do this and at no draft pick cost, which offsets the fact we have no first round pick.

Wouldn’t be against it…he plays a bit like Mihocek.

woukd also allow us to prioritise small forwards and a big midfielder

I have chosen this date for the obvious reason but in exactly two months time our key forward roster will be:
Matthew Taberner - 30 years old
.. 29
.. 28
.. 27
.. 26 (Harry Himmelberg would fit here)
.. 25
.. 24
.. 23
Sebit Kuek - 22 years old
Luke Jackson - 21 years old
Josh Treacy - 20 years old
Jye Amiss - 19 years old

We absolutely should be looking at a tall forward around twenty six years old.

Anyone watched Lobb closet in the first few weeks? I have.
He’s crap. Many dogs fans already beginning to turn on him.
There’s a genuine chance he gets dropped to VFL soon. They looked so much better with weightman back last weekend and really need to get rid of one of those talls.
I’d be looking over my shoulder if I was Rory. His ability to provide some relief to English in the ruck is pretty much all that’s between him and the VFL right now.
Luke Jackson is already much better than Lobb IMO. Much more agile at ground level and a much better footballer all round. I thought he was superb the other night in open play when he had the ball in his hands. Once he gets his marking up to speed (and it’s improved over the last 2 weeks for sure) he will leave peak Lobb trailing in the rear view mirror, and that’s as a 21 year old.

They would be tall enough with Naughton, JUH and Hannah as the 3rd tall.

Hopefully Clark, Walker and Wagner exploit there defensive pressure.

Himmelberg's WAY better than Mihocek. Can play at both ends, as we saw in spades yesterday. He's a Canberra boy, so you would think he'd prefer to stay close by in Sydney. On the other hand he might be looking for a more relaxed lifestyle, which means ... Geelong!

Hogan will be letting him know the downside..

This is why NSW players need extra recruiting investigation. Their media there give the exact opposite amount of fks as the journalists here. Both sets of journalists buy their enthusiasm dust from the same people as the players too.

Same draft as Harry McKay, Charlie Curnow - taken picks #10, #12 and #16 respectively.
Himmelberg born May 1996 (26), Curnow born Feb 1997 (26), McKay December 1997 (25)

Fremantle selected first at pick #27 - Darcy Tucker, #38 - Harley Balic, #55 - Sam Collins, #61 - Shane Yarran

Surely Himmelberg is a pipedream?

If we get him, I'll be very impressed.
I'd call him a pipedream because why would he come here KNOWING the shit our players cop but also like, we'd have to pay him way more to get him AND is he actually that good? He wasnt move to defence because they desperately needed help, it was as much because he wasnt playing well...

Not sure Himmelberg is all that good tbh. Would he improve our list? 100%. Would getting him mean we are closer to a premiership? IMO, no.

I'd rather chase Naughton, JVR or Georgiades tbh. Naughton is a genuine star whilst the other two have the ability to become stars.

I think everyone would agree with you on preferring Naughton, JVR, Georgiades.

As far as list management goes, we would be stepping out of the 2022 draft, the 2023 and 2024 draft to bring in one of those players on top of where we currently sit.

If the choice is between a player like Himmelberg offering a tall target forward and cover for key defender positions for three to four years plus a being able to dip into the 2023 and 2024 drafts I think our overall position could be better.

The value in Himmelberg to me is that he can play AFL football, offering a tall marking target who can play beside Amiss and then become more effective as Amiss takes the #1 opposition defender and all it would cost is salary cap.

We will have a player who can play forward and back as required without having to buy them with more draft picks, in the age range to fill that 2015 draft of which I think we have no players on our list remaining. We needed one of the tall forwards we drafted between 2013 and 2020 to be playing at AFL level each week and that hasn't worked out.

We've been burning ourselves trying to fill that void with trades, some very expensive, and now we have a nineteen year old key forward leading our attack.

The biggest issues I have with Himmelberg is that should we draft a key forward with some speed and a contested mark, he would have his position at risk forward. I don't know what his professionalism is like off the field and I wouldn't want to lose a 2nd round draft pick in free agency compensation should we lose a player end of the year because we brought in a free agent of our own, not when we are trading picks for Pickett.
