Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Honestly not sold on George. If we chase a forward, needs to be able to be #1 and ease the attention on Amiss.

That only really leaves Naughton, and maybe JVR or L-Mac if they come on.

Himmelberg would be a good foil if he didn’t cost the earth, and could rotate him and Cox through forward and back to really mess with the oppo.

Easier said than done, Pickett and Naughton are absolute needs but we ain't landing both.
I think it is probable we get nobody of note and I'm ok with that.

Thinking we need just one or two "big trades" to get us where we need to be is what got us in this mess in the first place (that and ignoring forwards for 2 decades).

I am happy to draft and be patient.

Any AFL players?

I bet not, if they are they would be ex WA players that can’t get a game.

I believe the context in which he said that was referring to non WA players returning home. He was talking about Jackson and O'Meara returning to WA but adding that other interstate players had expressed interest in joining Fremantle.

No way, we aren't winning a gf with our current forwardline. We need a replacement for Walters and a no.1 KPF.

I would take Pickett for a F1. I think that’s pretty hard to **** up all things considered. He should be a very high quality player in a position of need for us.

Have we ever got a decent free agent. I mean like a quality, top 80 in the league level talent?
Angus Brayshaw was nearly there and that’s all I can remember.
Some difference to the big melb clubs.

I doubt we'll ever get a good free agent. Any decent name player wanting out of Melbourne will keep going north where they can play with relative obscurity. Short of paying like 50% more than anywhere else, why would they come here?

We'll also struggle to get WA free agents because both us and WC will fight tooth and nail to get them before the other one which will mean trading them in before they become free agents 99% of the time. The only ones we'll ever get are Conca level.

Gus would have been a mistake, he has reverted to his previous years form again

Think we dodged a bullet there

Have 2 rucks for the next 10 years

Knobel is developing nicely

And Reidy/Treacy are backup fwd/rucks

This guy really isn't a need tbh
From memory, he had a lot of forward promise as well and was touted as a possible top 10 pick, you keep tabs on those type of kids regardless of what position they play if you have the chance to get them for free on a cat B pick-up

Would be the tallest kpf to play the game then!

Seems like a spec pick as a fwd and we already have kuek for that

Guess time will tell though

Well if we stop trading away our picks on positions not of need, we could have 4 or 5 top 30 picks on forwards and who knows, we might draft a few good ones.

Our flag window doesn't shut next year, there is no desperation. Draft them ASAP and work on our method. Then when the talented forwards come on, they'll take us to another level. We showed last year, even without Amiss, that we can win lots of games.

For that price, probably, but if we're absolute dog**** again and thats pick 2, I am not ok with it.

Gus is in the backline again. Seemed like he was getting mid clock at the end of last year (up to his signing) and now it has dried up. Curious.

Anyway, he is far superior to JOM.

That is a huge miss - he was a serious talent as a footballer, played against my kid, but loved basketball more. Skill, awareness, size and a bit of mongrel, I was thinking about him the other day and how we needed to be in his ear for a category b. We will regret that one forever

The clubs mentioned in the article are Collingwood, Geelong, Sydney, West Coast and apparently Hawthorn were interested last year (presumably before they got Meek). Sydney aside, all those clubs desperately need a ruck much more than a forward. He's pretty clearly a ruckman first, and with Darcy and Jackson there is no room in our team for another bloke who is literally over 210 cm tall. Our team is already too tall when Treacy plays

I dont think that matters - Cat B is effectively outside the list, who knows where our list is at in a few years time. When you can get potentially elite talent for free, you should be involved. Worst case is he tears WAFL apart and we can trade him for value down the track.

Yep it’s a total free swing.

Very poor from freo but not surprising considering bells running the show.
Apparently he always knows what’s best.

What I don’t think people are taking into account was the fact he was tracking for top 10 before he chose basketball.
This is not some new AFL convert but a genuine talented underage footballer .
