Not sure about a 3rd rounder, but they'll need to make space for their academy players. It appears that him and Dew were miles apart for whatever reason, so it may depend on who the new coach is, and how invested he is with the Suns. I'd be fine to give up a future 1st if there's a future 2nd heading back our way.

He's still contracted so they'll have the final say....but when he's up and about, he's all class.....and we're desperately in need of another true mid/forward.
I’m was a fan of his draft year, having come off an ACL draft year injury and only playing the 11 games so far during his time at GCS, i was thinking maybe a mid 2nd round pick might have been sufficient to get a deal done having been drafted at #7 in 2020…
All depends on how he continues playing during the last five games of the year, which might have a few swings and roundabouts on where he and the club believe where each other actually think what’s the best for their own interests…

I'm not so worried about the midfield.
Depending on where you see Hewett fitting, we then have Carroll, Hollands, Binns coming through, with Cunners, Fogerty, Durdin being able to go through there, as well as Doc and maybe even Williams.

Half forward is definitely a need though. We are a completely different side with Cunners and Martin in the team, and there is nobody really below them. Unfortunately Honey is a miss.
I know a couple in this draft would help that

"Gresham will go down as a could've or should've been a Carlton player who never was ... He'll also be a player regarded as wasted potential who got miles ahead of himself."

Take that for what you will

Where's the quote from? Hard to try and take it for anything without context.

Sorry, I should have said , source: same as the TDK info.

I'd suggest he's getting info from someone in or around the club.
By ahead of himself are you referring to contract demands?

No. source tends to think he's another Zac Fisher type case where things looked good early doors and they may have developed an over inflated ego as a result (thinking they were a star before they'd truly earned it).

and being paid as such by a saints administration - not that we were much better at the time

And being one of those Saints players spoken up repeatedly by the media as a cornerstone of a generational group of talent

Again, we're guilty of similar labels at times too.

After all the bleating about picking up fragile (injury prone) players, how could we consider Gresham?

18 and 17+ games is hardly disastrous.. I am not a massive Gresham fan but if he comes at a reasonable price and his salary is within cap then he is an upgrade on what we have. Not sure I would want to lose JSOS to bring him in though.

One would think there’s interest in Gresham deal and it may get done, otherwise persistente reference would stop.
Perhaps a fresh start will revIve his footy career, has plenty of skill that’s obvious , also he’s been more durable than a quite a few we have on our list over the past 3 or 4 years.

I hope we don't take Gresham his injury history is horrendous -- probably why he has dropped off so much ..

Neither of these comments are fair or accurate. Certainly, both are significant overreactions.

Here's some context for you:

Gresham has played 130 senior games out of a possible 169 since entering the league. He has missed 39 games across 8 seasons; less than 5 per season on average.

He suffered a serious Achilles injury in 2021; take that season out and he has played 127 out of 147. That's less than 3 games missed per season on average. That's featuring in 86% of games.

It's fine to not want him and it's fine to mention injuries as a reason as to why you have that opinion. But please, let's not make things up to support that view.

You like a bit of cherry picking?

Another analysis says in the past 4 seasons (the most recent therefore the most relevant) he has missed roughly 36 games - 9 a season (on average).

And, in the past three seasons, suffered stress fractures in his back, an achilles rupture and a medial (knee) injury.

His form this year has been disastrous. This is from Champion Data's Daniel Hoyne from about a month back.....and on SEN the other night, Hoyney stated that his form has dropped away even more over the past month.

Seems a definite case of 'buyer beware'.....

It seems you enjoy the picking of cherries too.

Another analysis says in the past 2 seasons (the most recent therefore the most relevant) he has missed 6 games- 3 a season (on average).

And, in the current season, has missed 2 games.

No. I responded because I don’t like cherry picking.

I gave you the number of games he has missed. I noted the most severe injury he has suffered as an explanation as to why.

I acknowledged he has missed time through his career.

But above all else I added context to a discussion that lacked it, by looking at his career as a whole.

That’s the exact opposite of cherry picking.

It feels like some have formed a stance without really having a concrete reason to do so.
Hence the negative commentary being based on falsehoods (injury) or things routinely dismissed (opinions of St Kilda fans)

Gresham isn't a Cameron or Papley, two players that it's doubtful that our club has the means to secure.
Gresham is more of a Jack Martin, talented but hasn't really ever put it together consistently enough to warrant the hype that he's received.
I can see benefit to picking him up as a buy low option but if he expects to be a prime mover & paid accordingly, we're probably not the club for him.
Interesting to see what plays out.

Looking at his career as a whole is a bit pointless though.

Who cares if he played every game up until he was 21? We're not offering a deal for that player. We're offering a deal to the player that has started to show he doesn't make it a full season and he's only getting older.

I'd back in Gresham to be our 3rd best goal scorer next year if signed. Has looked totally checked out of the Saints all year.

He's an improvement on Fisher imo, different types of players. Fisher a better kick, Gresham a better runner and goal threat. Would play round 1 next year and have an impact I have no doubts about it.

Not really, if he’s as injury prone as some seem to think, surely those issues would present throughout.

But sure we can look at more recent.

2022 he missed 4 games. This season just the one, thus far.

If that holds, he has missed 5 games across 2 seasons. Hardly an alarming number.
