I think we will target UFA, FA, OOC

Then trading out this and next years 1st rounders in deals for undervalued players, while adding multiple 2nd and 3rd rounders next year for the Campo boys

Gresham FA
1-2 of Lohmann, Schultz, Jordon, D.Williams, pace and depth
Clurey for a late pick, if we delist Durdin (prefer to keep)

Dow, Fisher out for future picks to bolster points
F1 into this season, take two firsts to draft

Don’t think any of this is unrealistic.

Just expressing my own personal views, even if it doesn't align with the majority.

Zac Fisher is surplus to requirements at the footy club these days, but a fit and hopefully controversy free Tarryn Thomas would be a game changer for our club.

You don’t spend years building up a great program like Carlton Respects, only to piss it up the wall by recruiting an idiot like Thomas. Steer clear Blues.

Apparently 3 clubs have strong interest in Fisher including Hawks and North Melbourne. North currently hold picks 2,17,39,58,59 and get at least pick 21 when McKay leaves. Pick 39 would be okayish. Hawks only hold 3,22,77 which would be tougher as they wont give up 22. Probably offer us a future 3rd.

I'm surprised Fisher is so keen to leave and go to another bottom club after spending so long at the bottom with us. While he's currently not best 22 it wouldn't be that hard for him to work his way back in. Its not like the coaches don't rate him as he has been an automatic pick for the best part of 5 years. Must be hell bent on being a midfielder.

Sometimes players just need a fresh start elsewhere to revitalise a somewhat stagnating career (which I believe has become the case for Fish over the last 18 months)

Wish him well at his next club (if he gets traded) and would be chuffed if we could get a pick somewhere between the 25-35 range for him :)

No Way Do Not Want GIF by Schitt's Creek's Creek

Yeah, nope.

Tarryn Thomas is damaged goods that no one will touch. Would rather spend that currency on a player that other clubs would actually want.

I'll say his name again as before his coach got the sack, no one thought much of him. Seems the new coach sees what I see.

Sam Flanders. Could have been extremely cheap until Dew was removed. Since then he has played great. Would have been a cheap pick up but doubtful now.
Yes hard to work out what Dew was doing when Miller was out not playing Flanders -- maybe he was to busy eating pies and drinking milkshakes - Flanders has been very good these last few weeks

Not sure who the club has their eyes on, but can't see us going hard at a top liner.

I think it will be moreso real needs based, looking at players in that 14 -24 ranked player

No problem with that at all. If we could get upgrades at that 14-24 range, it would fix the holes we still have. Don’t need a top line recruit, we have plenty of top liners already.

Other than Lohmann the others are realistic as they don’t stop us going to the draft.

As we don’t have a second or a third I don’t see us trading for any decent players.

Yes it will get tight if we’re after a player like Lohmann who will cost currency. He’s a player I’d happily split our first for, or perhaps downgrade our first to Brisbane’s first.

Looks like we won’t be picking in the top 5-6 so splitting could be a reasonable option.

I like it. Just having a look through some OOC/pre-agent types in that range:

  • Hayden McLean - could work well with TDK as our long-term ruck tandem; probably only if JSOS departs.
  • Sam Wicks - does some nice things but is he really an upgrade on what we have?
  • Oliver Florent - might be too pricey in salary and picks.
  • Jamie Cripps - is he cooked?
  • Jake Waterman - decent 3rd tall option but does that fit in our ideal forward structure?
  • Jamaine Jones - good player but do we need another HBF?
  • Chad Wingard - see Jamie Cripps.
  • Kai Lohmann - could be a go.
  • Lachlan Murphy - I'd rather put more games into Durdin and Motlop tbh.
  • Shane McAdam - decent option as cover for Martin.
  • Bailey Williams (Bulldogs) - big fan; dropped recently as well.
  • Jordon Sweet - we probably don't need another pure ruck.
  • Dylan Williams - seems entrenched at Port but would sign him in a heartbeat.
  • Kane Farrell - see above.

Daniel Hoyne from Champion Data does a weekly segment on SEN. He brought up some stats on Gresham last nite that were a little frightening, especially the last 6 weeks or so where his form has dropped off completely. FWIW, his advice to potential suitors was "buyer beware." I tend to think if we get him across as a FA, it'll be similar to the Hewett deal where it won't be big $$.

I wouldn't be surprised though if we look to split our future 1st into a 2023 and 2024 2nd round pick. Either that, or we target a player and offer our future 1st, with some change coming back for 2024.

I'd still like to think we'd be looking at Elijah Hollands with that 1st.....although he's now getting games under the interim coach, whereas he was reportedly on the outer under Dew - probably a bit like our own Paddy. On Whately's program a few weeks ago, he suggested that the challenge for GCS is to get Hollands to fall back in love with the club....Kingy suggested that GCS needs to keep him away from his little brother over the Xmas holidays 😂

The other I'm hoping we're sniffing around is Noah Cumberland...or even Ollie Dempsey. Give those dirty rotten poaching Cats a bit of their own medicine!!

Also, who we trade in could influence the type of player we'll be looking to draft. So if we end up trading in say a Gresham and/or Cumberland, we may look at going tall with our 1st pick in the ND.

If/When Fisher and Dow goes where is the next depth of midfielders we have coming through, the reserves midfield is super thin & lacking with some clear standouts developing and ready if we were to have a few go done with injuries?

Same goes for our half forwards Cunners and Martin, absolutely no class medium forwards on the list developing in the reserves, ready to step when needed…

Same can be said about our lack of ready to go developing KPP at both ends in case someone goes down, ie Harry, god forbid if Weitering were to miss a large portion of the season…

As much as you can have your mature types that can step up and play a positional role for you when someone goes down, you need to have the next wave depth also developing on the list as well, you need a balance, ours is thin in a few positions…

Gresham strikes me as very high risk, low reward!

Different sort of player obviously, but Jake Riccardi?

agree, we have binns and hollands, i suspect Carrol may be on his way back to WA. Campo boys are 3-4 years away from senior football - I'd be putting at least one of our next two first rounders into a draft age midfielder, best available we no longer need to draft for immediate impact

I'm not so worried about the midfield.
Depending on where you see Hewett fitting, we then have Carroll, Hollands, Binns coming through, with Cunners, Fogerty, Durdin being able to go through there, as well as Doc and maybe even Williams.

Half forward is definitely a need though. We are a completely different side with Cunners and Martin in the team, and there is nobody really below them. Unfortunately Honey is a miss.

CARLTON

Patrick Cripps $900,000-$1,000,000, 28, Midfielder
Jacob Weitering $750,000-$850,000, 25, Defender
Mitch McGovern $750,000-$850,000, 28, Defender
Sam Walsh $750,000-$850,000, 23, Midfielder
Harry McKay $700,000-$800,000, 25, Forward
Zac Williams $700,000-$800,000, 28, Defender
Charlie Curnow $650,000-$750,000, 26, Forward
Adam Saad $575,000-$675,000, 28, Defender

Did the Blues invest too heavily in defence a few years ago? Will the mega investment in their two Coleman Medallists next season hurt the Blues going forward (pardon the pun), with Curnow and McKay new deals kicking in. It’s going to be fascinating to see what unfolds. Some of the Blues’ current contract figures aren’t as high as has been speculated on, but it has still been a relatively tight squeeze. The beauty is they have bedded down the key players they want to keep – other than Tom De Koning. If TDK stays, they can still afford him. If not, they can be active at season’s end. Importantly, the Blues will be eased out of McGovern’s big contract next season – if he stays, he will be on a greatly reduced rate. The end of a few back-end mid-range contracts will help, while Jack Silvagni and Zac Fisher could yet find themselves at new homes.

Did this get posted a couple of weeks ago? If it did, I missed it.

I think it's vital we keep SOS.

Motlop and Owies still figure in the mix
