Not arguing my “assumption” is “wrong” but would love to see it addressed in writing somewhere if you have a link. I have hot been able to find anything.Definitely List Management.
Your assumption re: Boyd and Mirkov is wrong, they can stay on the Rookie List for another year.
As to the rest of your post, next year is definitely tight for list spots/uncontracted players. But also, who knows what will happen with total list numbers and rules. I think there is a very reasonable possibility that these will change again.
As for this year, I don't think it will be that hard to create the 3-4 list spots that we need.
However, if we were to not upgrade them this year, it would just further complicate the list management log jam next year. I can’t see it not being addressed. The point of my post is that we must put our ducks in a row this year to allow next year to play out positively.
We need a couple more than three or four list spots this year to do this unless you simply want to delist or trade Cottrell, Boyd and Mirkov at the end of their rookie tenure.
“Who knows what will happen with total list numbers and rules?” with you suggesting a reasonable possibility that these will change won’t cut it if we are forced to part with multiple “required” players.
She’ll be right mate doesn’t cut it! I am sure Austin is over it, but it is far from an easy task. For interest, if you look at the out of contract players in subsequent years, barring retirements or failure of a Lemmey, Binns or O’Keeffe to come on, it will be equally tight. Expect one or two draftees, a slight chance of a free agent or trade addition and an annual rookie upgrade to pretty much become the norm for the foreseeable future.
I will be quite astounded if we don’t draft a KPD option this year to future proof the list. Personally, I would be playing Lemmey in defence for the remaining reserves games to get some insight as to his future. I am underwhelmed by his key forward offerings to date, yet when played on ball or defensively, his confidence and intensity rise considerably, as does his output. Think he is more a reactive than proactive/playmaker type.
