I see a pretty big difference between the 2.
Mids rated 5th/6th/7th on the list aren't too hard to cover or replace. Compared to a player that even if you don't think he's in the best 22 (I do), then he is the first replacement for 5 different key players in the best team, for whom we have very little cover.

In terms of List Management, SOS is much more important for us to keep if we can (he's obviously a Free Agent).
Ideally we would keep both.
Tend to agree and you would hope the forwards can also play midfield minutes, possibly someone like Hollands develops. JSOS for me is important for balance though I do think he will only play as a backup ruck on the back of the last few weeks. If Harry or Curnow are out I think they might just go with the same setup as we have the last few weeks. Who knows though, it’s splitting hairs.

So everybody is re-signing.

I think we need to cut at least 5 given we have 2 SSP picks and the draft to come.

Would have thought Dow and Fog were on the way out until recently. Tom Browne also said we are looking to add 2 Cat B Irish players so the squeeze is on.

Anybody want to have a guess who is making the room?

What do we think of Matt Duffy? Apparently signed a deal to play for Carlton as a category B rookie in 2024.
Glad we've dipped the toe back in Ireland, we had some success previously and then gave up after a couple got homesick. Haven't watch his tape yet but hope he breaks lines.

Do cat Bs count?

Duffy isn't going to be Cat B - he's Cat A

I saw that mentioned in the article, but I don't understand why. Cat B is meant for this exact purpose. No need to take up a Cat A spot. I assume it was an error.

BH posted earlier that teams are only allowed one Irish player on Cat-B list, so I figure that's why.

I would be surprised if any of Honey, Philp, Plowman, Curnow or Dow are at Carlton next season. That's 5.

Then I think we will shed 2-3 of Fisher, LOB, Marchbank, Durdin, Fogarty, Mirkov, that will depend on their offers from other clubs, and any additional players we might be looking to recruit.

Carroll is an interesting one. I think there is a sneaky chance WCE will offer him a contract and a chance at AFL football and we could reluctantly let him go. No rumours yet and just an inkling.

Silvagni and Cuningham are the other two OOC that I expect the club will prioritise from here.

I posted this on another thread earlier today, but it appears we can only preselect one Irish player as a Cat B.

"Irish players can be signed directly to a club’s Rookie List under the International Player Rule and do not have to go through the draft. Previously, Irish players could not be listed as Category B rookies but took a spot on the main Rookie List.

Clubs can now list one Irish player as a Category B rookie but for each additional Irish player rookie listed, that player will be deemed to be a Category A rookie and the club will forfeit its last selection in the Rookie Draft for each additional player listed."

Can anybody find any mention of Owies being upgraded to the main list last year? I have him still listed as a Cat B rookie but he has been with us for 5 years.

In fact, we have 5 Cat A's and 2 Cat Bs already by my reckoning.

I guess Ed makes way and at least one other ... LOB ... Mirkov.

Just wanna thank Sos for drafting TDK

He copped a lot of crap for picking Dow and Obrien in the same draft and rightfully so

But he also picked up the best young ruck in the comp and in my opinion that selection alone more than makes up for it.

Absolutely love the number 12

Very big upside but disagree with making up for the poor decision of LOB,you shouldn’t be getting a top 10 pick that wrong.

Current Cat-A's: Ed C, S Durds, LOB, Boyd, Mirkov, Cotts, Cinc, HOK (8)
Cat-B: Akuei (1)

The 2 Irish will make it 9 and 2. And maximum Cat-A's is 6, so will need to reduce the 9 to 6 either by delisting or promotion.

Owies is main list.
Have 8 current Cat A rookies - max is 6. (Inflated by Cincotta and O’Keeffe replacing inactive Williams and Philp.
O’Brien
Cottrell
Boyd
Mirkov
O’Keeffe
Cincotta
Ed Curnow
S.Durdin

Akuei sole Cat B, re-signed as such.

Edit: expect two of top four names to be promoted to main list (possibly more)

Some chance S.Durdin delisted with coaches preferring Weitering, Kemp playing the keys and Young already back up and Marchbank back in contention. (Some chance Young is shopped and Nigel retained as insurance while drafting a youngster)

Owies had his full stint as a Cat B (extended to 4 years due to covid) prior to his 2 year contract signed last September, so he had to be elevated.

We currently have 8 Cat A rookies (Boyd, Cottrell, LOB, Ed, Mirkov, S. Durdin) + (Cincotta, O'Okeefe) and 1 Cat B (Akuei).

Have to cut or elevate at least 2 of the Cat As.

And think it’s time for Cotters to be upgraded too.

Could see us ending up like this

Cat A
O’Brien - Trade or if cap permits delist payout
Cottrell - Upgrade
Boyd - Upgrade
Mirkov
O’Keeffe
Cincotta
Ed Curnow - Retire
S.Durdin - Re-sign
Duffy - Free hit
1x Keep spot open for SPP or mid-season draft

Cat B
Akuei
2nd Irish player

Main List

Philp - Delist (use 1st round pick)
Plowman - Delist (Cottrell)
Honey - Delist (Boyd)

FA (Maybe)
Marchbank - Rookie list (Gresham) or Re-sign
