People might laugh but Mirkov and Dow would be close to the best centre clearance combination in AFL football. Looked like Nic Nat/Shuey at times and Dows centre clearance game has transferred despite average tap ruckmen. Mirkov was jumping over opponents as well as outreaching them and then putting it outside the inner ring.
I'm not one who's laughing - the Mirkov/Dow combo in the VFL has been brilliant....and I just wonder how Crippa, Cez, George and Sammy would go with the big fella putting the ball down their throats like he's been doing with Paddy.

He's not a high possession player around the ground, but some of his tap work at stoppages is sublime....and was improving week by week before going down.

Just between you and me Ferris, I wouldn't be surprised if we're still making a play for Gresham of the Jade variety.

He was linked in the media with Carlton throughout the year - and as we know, these deals more often than not don't just happen in the 2 week trade period. If we've made some type of 'in principle' commitment to him over that period, it's incumbent on the club to follow through.

However, if its a case that he's just chasing the almighty $$$, we'd be in our rights to walk away so he can pursue higher offers. At the end of the day, I don't think the Aints will stand in his way if there's an offer forthcoming from a rival club. They'll just take the compensation pick and run.

McGuane saying in the herald today that JSOS is determined to work things out and sign with the club.. I suspect seeing the evidence that we are not far away he would kick himself if he threw away the chance of playing in a flag in Navy Blue for the sake of a few extra $ and longer tenure.

Just a thought after seeing the * delist Stewart with a year left on his deal. Reckon there’s any chance we pay out LOB if we are squeezed for list spots and no other club bites at us offering him up even with us paying some of his salary next season?

I think it's pretty unlikely.
* have a lot more cap space than we do. They payed out another player last year too.

That’s true. I think we will be just right for list spots anyway. Shame he hasn’t fitted into the plans, he did look pretty good for a while there before he signed his extension.

If we are going to pay out anyone I think it will be Mirkov, with his condition he is unlikely to play again.

LOB at least serves a purpose in the 2s and as wing depth. I would imagine we would offer him to the market for nothing, but if there are no bites we will hold.

Yeah it’s a concern with big Alex, you could be right which is sad. If LOB can produce at the level he did at times last year he’s more than adequate depth if the likes of Acres, Hollands and Cottrell get injured.

He probably has to go past Doc and Binns too. I think they would also go for Cuningham and Boyd on a wing before we gave LOB another chance.

I thought his condition had been fixed with an operation?

Yep. Behind all those blokes, and Cowan could probably do the job if needed. It’s why I’m thinking it’s a small chance once we’ve crunched the numbers and possibly end up with just enough cap left for a draftee/rookie/SSP we are dead keen on but no list spot that he could be paid out. Like I said it’s very unlikely though, a lot would have to line up.

Hope so. Great runner, and hesitate to call anyone who walks onto the parkin AFL a ducker, but I feel his not realising his potential (particularly entry by foot into forward line) is due to fear of contact with bigger bodies.

Quite surprised Voss persisted with him as long as he did really.

On that note, would love Kade Simpson to come and teach the physically committed Hollands how to look after himself. Has already been over exposed this year and can see his courage leading to wearing some damage. It was great seeing him prop but then re-commit his body to the cause on return this year. No way I'd stand in front of the steam trains running around out there these days

Top call RE Simmo speaking to Hollands.

Good post.
As a Tall Forward, I think Jack is ahead of TDK, and I think you have Cuningham too low as a forward (ahead of Durdin and Fog for mine), but I think this is a good way of thinking about the list.

Was having a random trade scenario in my head and wanted everyone's thoughts:

Gold Coast want to trade their first round pick currently at 4 because they have 3? academy kids projected to go early in the draft. We have the Campo twins coming through next year so perhaps don't have a need for our future first rounder.

If we could get a couple of second round picks for 2 of SOS/Dow/Fisher (I know no one probably wants to loose them but its possible), could we potentially trade:
Our future first and the two second round picks mentioned above for GC's first rounder this year and a future second.
They get points for their academy kids this year plus another first rounder next year to use.

We get another top end pick to go with our own first rounder this year to get 2 quality youngsters in (sustained success incoming), and bank points next year for the campo twins.

Seems like a win/win?

Something like that (or even our 1st + F1 for #4) would be good for us, and would work for them, but I think they'll get better offers from teams expected to finish much lower than us next year (ie a much better F1).
