Alex Rance - pick 18
Spent most of his first season playing VFL 2nds.
But you’re right, there isn’t a lot. But it’s always a tough category to select a broken/cheap/potentially worth a punt kpd player.
The formula over the last few years has been forwards that aren’t good enough.
Tom Fullarton?

On a side note, would love to try and get Phil Davis as an assistant coach next year.
Can we swap or trade Obrien for something or some one. In the space of 12 months he is a long way down the wing pecking order. Don't know who would be interested. Gold Coast maybe.

michael tuck - 50 reserves games
dipps - 99 I think

Craig Bradley played 89 games or so in the SANFL, which at the time was close to being as good as the VFL at the time.

And was a bloody talented young cricketer who could have played for the Baggy Green if he chose that path.

Braddles was my favourite player as a child, and definitely still an all time top 3 favourite Carlton Great/Legend.

Sometimes I feel like he is underrated by many footy fans. And I feel sorry for those Blue Baggers who were too young to watch Braddles play.

Extraordinary player and athlete. And bloke too. Him giving his 1987 premiership medal to Peter Motley after Mots awful career ending car accident shows the type of character and bloke Braddles is

Braddles at 59 is probably more fitter than me than when I was at my 20s.

Wingmen are much easier to find cheaply than the 2 positions we really now need to find players (half forward and key back).
I don't think serviceable key defenders are that hard to find.

There are (some) serviceable KPDs in state league. I think mature age key defenders might have the highest success strike rate of any position from the pool of players taken from the VFL/SANFL/WAFL.

You can sometimes turn failed key forwards into cheap KPD success stories.

You can pick up a more experienced key back from a rebuilding side; like North jettisoning Robbie Tarrantor WCE maybe cashing in on Tom Barrass.

You can pick up a young KPD who is in a logjam behind more established players (like we did with Young).

Picking the next Weitering, Moore, Sam Taylor is not easy. Finding a solid lockdown, 1-on-1 gorilla tamer is not the hardest.

If we got Barrass surely us BF posters would have to lobby the club to get him the number 70…

My feeling is ED, Philp, Plow ,Sam Durdin and Honey will not be offered new contracts.

Cunners and Marchbank have probably earnt another year but that would be dependent
on them not breaking down again before years done. (we all hope not)

So really hoping that Jsos and Dow can be signed and this still leaves three spots for
others.

Our list is looking the best I can remember, kudos to all involved.

Boyd and Mirkov have to be upgraded (Cottrell has another year).
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I have strong suspicion that a club is not able to re-sign rookie listed players past the point where they have to be promoted to the senior list.

Why would Boyd and Mirkov have contracts until 2024, but need to be re-negotiated to a senior contract in 2023? It also explains why Owies' rookie deal ended in 2022, promoting him to the senior list during his contract extension at the end of last year.

Bradley rewrote the rules on midfield running.
The endurance traits so coveted in today’s footy … Bradley was doing 35 years ago just without the GPS tracker.
Would get tagged every week and just run them into the dirt … and set recruiters off on a path to find the next great athlete that changed the game maybe forever.

Please no to Kemp. He looks incredible atm. Needs time to settle.

Williams and Cinc - good ideas. Both are long kicks, and we have depth at their current position.
Yep - He's shown more playing as a defender & he's building nicely, he'll be better with more games under his belt.
I'm not sure why people are wanting him to become a forward or who he'd replace given we have a logjam of sorts trying to fit the second ruck or JSOS as it is.

He was doing more KMs.......no rotations back then. Players like himself, Robert Harvey and Shane Crawford would run for 120 minutes.

In the last few years the Dogs got Jones for free, Swans got MCartin and we got Boyd for not much, Durdin was also taken in the MSD straight out of the SANFL.

Gold Coast selected Collins with its state league picks the same year we got ours, he won a B&F 2 years later.

Pretty long way of saying I agree.

Beyond the initial listing (rookie draft, MSD, PSP), there is no difference to the player if they are on the rookie list on the senior list. They can sign any contract with the club.

The only difference between being a Senior Listed player and a Cat A player beyond that initial contract is that $80k of a Rookie's contract is outside the salary cap (ie, if clubs go with a 36/6 split instead of 38/4 they can spend an extra $160k not included in the cap).

Are you suggesting that Boyd and Mirkov were elevated last year without the club telling anyone and we blew $160k?

I think this year's list management is going to be a bit boring.
Here is what I think will happen.
McGovern just signed for 2 years.
JSOS to sign on for 2 years. Fisher stays.
Cuningham, Marchbank, Fogarty and Dow sign 1 year deals.
Curnow retires, Honey, Plowman, Durdin and Philip all delisted.
Our late picks to be traded for future picks.
Draft DeMattia or Moir with our 1st about pick 20.
Upgrade Cottrell and Boyd to the main list.
Add the two Irish boys (I think only one can be a cat B rookie and the other takes a rookie spot)
With our last rookie spot l think we will leave it open for an SSP or mid season draft or pick up either Cahill or a tall defender.
I'm all for the bolded part, hoping there's extenuating circumstances for his lack of form. The promise he showed last year is precisely the type of player we'd want on our list. However, I would be wanting a second 'sweeper' pick as high as possible. I think that's sound list management.

If Dow decides he wants to move on...

Could we make the cap room for a Bailey Smith?

Apparently open to moving on and OOC next year, if he nominated us and we played hard ball...
A F1 + Player or Change could get it done...

Midfield Consisting of below would be pretty special...

Inside - Cripps, Kennedy & Hewett
Balanced - Cerra, Walsh, Smith & Docherty
Outside - Acres, Cottrell, Hollands & Binns
Smith is a quality player when he’s on.

It’s a very now acquisition though as we’ve already got hollands and Binns in DV.

The reason Smith has gone backwards is that he got pushed out of the middle and onto a wing when the dogs brought in Treloar.. Bailey Smith is a jet but needs to play inside. Would love him in our midfield rotation but with Walsh and Cerra playing similar roles it’s hard to see how.

And, quite frankly, if he sooks it up because he doesn't get what he wants then he is of no interest to us.

No, I'm suggesting that you've probably misunderstood the rule and Boyd/Mirkov have another year on the rookie list before needing to be upgraded.

I thought they could get 3 and a half years on the rookie list, but they can't. They have to elevated after 2 and half years ie this off-season.
