Ah in the 70's I had one too.

My first bike, purple with the hand grip tassels.

Got to love the 3 speed shifter and ape bars.

A chopper for kiddies!
Same except gold all round and late 60's - 'Dragster'.

I post about this every year so here we go, this is a Lions 25 and under side, all these players if good enough and barring major injury concerns should still be playing at the end of the decade. - The future looks bright.

Noah Answerth, Darragh Joyce, Brandon Starcevich.
Darcy Wilmot, Jack Payne, Keidean Coleman.

Henry Smith, Will Ashcroft, Jarrod Berry.
Hugh McCluggage, Dev Robertson, James Tunstill.

Cam Rayner, Tom Fullarton, Kai Lohmann.
Zac Bailey, Eric Hipwood, Callum Ah Chee.

Jaspa Fletcher, Blake Coleman, Harry Sharp, Kalin Lane, Carter Michael, Jaxon Prior, James Madden.

Josh Dunkley and Harris Andrews only recently turned 26.
It's a ripper position to be in, that's for sure. I don't think Fullerton or Joyce are long term prospects but the rest are certainly capable of solid careers. The midfield especially looks good. Ashcroft, Dev, Tunstill, Clugg n Berry, Dunkley still here maybe. Fletcher develops and young Levi Ashcroft in a cpl of years. I think we're sorted for a long time. I'm hoping Devrob n Tunstill see it too and resist offers from elsewhere. The next 2yrs for both will be tough, they will play plenty of games but find it hard to cement a spot. But after that both are backbones of the midfield going fwd, I believe.

We're pretty good with halfbacks/sm med defenders and sm/med fwds. Prior, I think has real value, outside his versatilty. I think should Starcevich suffer an injury, Prior is just built to step in beautifully. Coleman n Wilmot, Carter Michael, down back. Lohmann n the Brain fwd.

If Henry Smith n Lois Lane take some big steps fwd this year and move from developing to depth, that whole ruck/fwd brigade looks so much stronger.

The tall defender stocks is the obvious shortfall. We haven't drafted one since Payne. Hopefully this year we can focus on remedying that. We don't need to chase mids or smalls this draft so with our weaker hand selection wise, we can target a key defender. They don't tend to go as early as mids etc. If I was draft lord this year I'd be prioritising talls. A cpl of tall defenders and a genuine goal kicking tall fwd. I suggest the tall fwd because I think our ruck stocks with O, Fort, Lane and ruck/fwd Smith is good, but as far as replacements for Hippy, Joe and Gunston especially in a cpl of years, we're pretty thin. I think we need to be a bit forward thinking here.

It's great to look at our list thinking 5yrs ahead. We're going pretty good. Good enough to keep us in contention for a long time.

Yes, we appear to be in a good position, well on paper at least.
The last few years the Lions are a destination club so hopefully we have a KPD (trade) in mind for 2023.
One in the draft will also help long term as you say.

I actually like the way Fullarton has slowly improved. But he needs to stand out more when he gets his chance again at AFL level.
Agile 200cm players are hard to find. I am a little surprised that the Club have not decided on a permanent KPD spot for him this year.
It is a weakness we have and would rather a few options other than Joyce and maybe an undersized Lester.
So far in the sims he is still playing forward/ruck.
He now sits firmly behind Fort and then he has the 2 youngsters hot on his heels.

It may boil down to Fagan has nightmares about rucks going down with LTI more so than a KPD.

Decent key position players are hard to pry out of their current club via trade albeit not impossible eg Joe Daniher, there are usually only 2 spots at either end of the ground to be filled, any player that we traded in you would think is behind Andrews/Adams & Hipwood/Daniher. Would a good KPD change clubs in the hope of breaking into the side?

In saying that free agent Ben McKay would be handy, particularly if Marcus Adams doesn't come back.

"Recent scans indicated a small hamstring tear for Zorko, who will miss the club’s next intraclub game. However, he’s likely to be fit for trial matches against other teams later this month and stated he’s still able to run at speed."

Early observations. The ones are wearing red today.

Lohmann playing for the twos.

McCluggage is back. In the ones.

JL in the twos.

Sharp in the twos.

Joyce in the ones.

Fort in the ones with Oscar. Looks like we are loading up today. Last week was all about run. Today might be more about aerial contests.

No other changes that I've noted yet during the warm-ups.

Q1 38-0

Red dominant on the scoreboard but I actually thought they were less impressive than last week. Kicking with a bit of a breeze to the club room end. Kicking to contests too much, and a bit static after taking uncontested marks, seemingly waiting for a perfect option to present. I'd prefer to see us take the game on a bit, like, play on without necessarily an end outcome determined... It's amazing how often the perfect option presents itself when the game devolves into chaos. And even if it doesn't, there is much to be said in this era of 18 players within 2 kicks of the ball for simply taking territory.

54 almost gets maroon off to a dream start in the first 10 seconds but a run down tackle 30 out saves red blushes.
1:20 Maroon looking better early. Red barely over halfway yet.
3:00 Red finally get some forward ball with Bailey gathering in space 45 from goal. Handballs to Joe who hits Hipwood in the pocket. Nails the shot from 30 tight angle. 6-0 very much against the run of play.
4:00 maroon dominating clearances at present against the best 4. Only their disposal letting them down so far.
6:30 nice build up from half back sees the ball sneak over the pack onto Charlie's chest. He nails it from 25 out directly in front. 12-0
7:00 Bailey goes into the 4
8:00 Neale 45 out feeds a handball back to Joe on the paint, whose kick is high enough to bring rain from these perfect blue skies... But it's straight and has the carry. 18-0
10:00 holding the ball free paid to Oscar, who hits the post from 45. 19-0
12:00 Red being forced to kick a lot more to contests today and not doing it terribly well. Rebounding out of defence tho a nice chain of handballs and short kicks ends with McCarthy, whose set shot from 30 in the left pocket misses far side. 20-0
15:00 Red's skills starting to tell in general play as they are able to work less for the same result. This passage of play ends in the left pocket again, where this time Bailey nails the set shot from 30. 26-0
17:00 after a great chain of handballs in defence Coleman kick-starts the rebound. Hipwood marks in range but on the boundary goes for a very risky centreing kick. It is centimetre perfect tho and finds Bailey at the top of the goal square. He marks and nails the set shot from 15. 32-0
23:30 Charlie drops an easy mark in the pocket but recovers well enough to find Oscar at the top of the square while being hemmed in on the boundary. Oscar doesn't want to shoot tho so passes to Prior. His kick from 40 is a stinker but Joe marks on the behind line. Plays on and goals. 38-0

BRAB when did the SFA come to the Lions board?!?

Q2 71-6 Pretty underwhelming stuff really. Can't decide if our ball movement is being stunted by playing the extra ruckman or the absence of Gunston. Either way I guess we couldn't play in defence as short as we did last week so 🤷

0:00 Fort goes into ruck but maroon still win the clearance
2:00 Maroon start well again and lock the ball inside 50 early
3:00 A quick rebound sees Charlie mark near the bullseye. Hits McCluggage who handballs to the running Ashcroft. He hits Joe leading to the pocket. Kicks truly from 30. 44-0
4:00 Starce dominating in defence. Several overhead intercept marks already.
6:00 breeze strengthening to the club room end. 7:00 Red attack via the outer wing through a series of short passes which end with McCarthy. 25 out 45 degree angle however proves too much tho as he drags it left. 45-0
10:00 nice chain of handballs ends in a snap by Bailey which just misses from 25 46-0
11:00 great build up from maroon through the corridor ends with Madden but his kick from 48 is a shocker and out on the full.
14:00 the game has devolved into a game played between the arcs more or less
14:30 McCarthy finally nails a goal off one step from 45, in a rare moment where the breeze has completely subsided. 52-0
17:30 best passage of play for the quarter as a clean chain of possession through the corridor allows Bailey to hit Joe in an open forward line. From 45 he spies Charlie in the left pocket, who marks, but his snap is narrow. 53-0
19:30 Sharp wraps up McCluggage on 50 before finding 56 in the pocket after his holding the ball free kick. His set shot from 25 is superb and brings the biggest cheer of the day. 53-6
21:00 quick answering goal as Hugh runs onto the crumbs at the back of a marking contest inside 50. 59-6
23:00 unselfish from Charlie. Can shoot on the run from 40 but spots Hipwood on the other flank. From 45 he nails the set shot. 65-6
25:00 Hipwood appears to be having a stint on the wing. After the siren Charlie nails another one. 71-6 Scoreboard is showing 66 but I think they credited Joe's early goal in the quarter as a behind

Changes at half time. Matho into the ones. Dev into the twos. Both have been pretty good actually. Matho has been a big part of maroon's dominance at clearances, particularly at centre bounces.

Prior and Tunstill also into the twos. Fullarton into the ones Joyce back to the twos. Ah Chee in the ones but wearing 14.

Q3 85-20

I lied. Fullarton stayed in the twos and Joyce stayed in the ones. 48 playing ones tho.

Outstanding quarter from maroon for all bar the last 2 mins. Just gritted their teeth and got stuck in against the breeze. Red got smashed at clearance and got a bit cute when in possession. Suspect the coaching group has even less idea after today about who our best midfield is, and it may be that it includes some of the more unheralded names.

1:00 Good start for maroon as Blake Coleman marks and goals from 45. 71-12
8:00 finally a clean passage of play sees Hipwood hit McCarthy in the pocket who misses. 72-12
9:30 great pressure from Charlie inside 30 results in a shot under pressure by Linc 5m out which is touched 73-12
11:00 great forward pressure from Charlie again this time undone by a high don't argue from Hipwood
12:30 free kick to 55 but away to the left from 45 73-13
13:00 great solo effort from Cockie. Intercepts a handball on 50, runs to 45 and nails it. 73-19. Red getting a bit fancy and maroon playing much the better footy in general play
16:00 Ah Chee front end of the square finds Joe who marks 45 out. His set shot from 50 is awful and misses the lot to the right.
21:00 Something out of very little as Joe finds Bailey by hand on 50. He puts it out in front of Charlie who's charging back towards goal, but it beats he and the 3 opponents chasing him and goes all the way 79-19
22:00 Rich rushes a behind 79-20
23:00 individual brilliance from Charlie. Contests hard in the air against 2 taller opponents, then at ground level receives the handball from Bailey before rolling it through from 30. 85-20

Q4

I come away from the game today thinking Gunston is probably going to be our most important player. Our forward line functioned more out of brute force and a touch of class today, more than any great organisation. In midfield we still play Russian Roulette too much at stoppages. Neale in particular notorious for cheating out the front. It means when we lose clearances (and we got belted out of the middle today) we lose the contest quickly and concede big territory also. Thought our defence was by and large pretty good. Andrews looks in good nick. Just reads the play so well.

1:30 Quick kick forward from a free kick in midfield sees Hipwood mark at the back overhead. Takes an age over his set shot from 25 and misses badly. 86-20
3:00 scrappy build up ends with Oscar who marks 30 out. Great kick this time! 92-20
4:00 brilliant goal from maroon as Dev gets a quick centre clearance right to the teeth of goal. The forwards fight hard in the air before Blake Coleman cleans up at ground level. 92-26
7:00 the lights come on and they are nothing like at other grounds where they take an hour to warm up.
8:00 Charlie gets a 50 from the wing to bring him in range before passing to Hipwood in the pocket. From 45 his set shot is across the face and touched through 93-26
10:20 sharp play from a throw in just inside 50 as 48 runs around the boundary before handballing infield to Linc who snaps a goal 99-26
14:30 nice build up through the corridor ends with Charlie in the pocket, who passes infield to Hugh. He nails his set shot from 35 on a 45 degree angle. 105-26
19:00 the ball's camped inside red's half but maroon are scrambling well to keep them at bay
It's now 50-38 also in favour of maroon. Red now need goals.
20:00 a hurried snap is only a behind 50-39
22:00 Bailey breaks a tackle to run into a goal from 30m but it only came after Neale broke away from a contest at half back and undecided ran 25m before bouncing. Lucky for red. 50-45
24:40 Hugh marks on 50 and rather than go for goal tries to hit a target at the top of the square. It's off hands tho and through for a behind 50-46
25:00 siren and maroon hang on. Deservedly so. Red fell into the classic trap, chasing the game late, of simply banging long to where all the defensive numbers were. Much smarter to use the full width of the ground and try to draw them out that way.
