Those comments in regards to Roberts are really encouraging. I always found him to be a one-paced diesel engine of a player. If he has upped his acceleration and sprinting that can only be a good thing, he more or less has the rest

Isn't his disposal skills a bit iffy? Good to hear he's building on his physical development.

I got Hannebery vibes from Roberts first time I saw him play. May never be as good, but think he will play a similar game style.

With pre-season games about to start an AFL video to whet the appetite.
A compilation of our recent draftees pre-draft videos.
Not sure how much time any of them will get in the practice games and nothing new but a decent way to spend 10 minutes.

There is, a, bit of Luffy about Wil Edwards

How would you describe that game style? I recall a lot of Hanners greatness being based on his outstanding endurance and covering a lot of ground both ways. Based on Roberts' time trial results that is not one of his special strengths.

I know the question was asked of RedBloodBlackSwan but since I'm here.

I wrote this back in December;

I'll just post a couple of observations I made during the season (from 2 different reserves games)
Roberts got plenty of the ball, but his tendency to always go on his left foot and roost the ball as far as he can was again on display....

....although a bit more composure when Roberts kicks the ball would be welcome
I think they highlight his strength (getting the ball) and a weakness (disposal by foot).
I like his disposal by hand, quick and accurate, but his kicking needs work.
He's not the quickest, most athletic and in some ways he is the 'old fashioned' centreman, going from contest to contest, winning the ball and quickly getting rid of it.

...... with Bell and Taylor gone and Clarke maybe still in the firsts, I think more responsibility and a year in the system will hopefully see improvement in his overall game.

So to hear Heeney say "“Matty Roberts – his fitness has just gone to another level, his high-speed running, sprints, he’s just so underrated in terms of how well he moves across the ground,” is really encouraging.

I wonder if Heeney's referring to his general tank improving or a more specific, Warner-like improvement in his burst and acceleration?
His tank is good. He proved that in the reserves last year. He needed to improve acceleration and kicking skills. Although he has a good long kick, some of his, shorter kicks need a little tweaking

I would assume the society and politics thread, as it inevitably ends up leading to discussions about issues that stray from footy.
Correct - that's where those comments belong. Posting them in these threads causing nothing but derails & results in mods deleting pages of comments and handing out infractions.

Roberts' ability to get from contest to contest all game long plus "his strength (getting the ball) and a weakness (disposal by foot)" are reminiscent of Hanners.

Yeah, I think your second post sums it up well.

There was also an intangible quality about the way Roberts moved when I saw him play. It’s very hard to describe, he held his head loosely and a bit to the side while running in the same way Hannebery did - almost like they are absolutely shot but still keep running a bit like an enthusiastic puppy dog. As I said, hard to describe, it was the vibe…
