Calling it now after the first match sim, Serong for Brownlow, Jackson for the Coleman, MJ for rising star, Kuek and Sturt for AA as well

Johnson looks like the next mid to push best 22 and show why teams should have offered more to take Freos first pick of the second round

King Huskii Match Sim Report - 16/01/23
Training Report
After a long warm up the squad moved into a full match sim with a midfield training drill between each quarter.

Ill go straight into the match sim

It was officiated by young umpires who umpired well and would put the AFL main umps to shame.

The 1st quarter was completed dominated by purple. Jackson was massive and easily best on with both Serong and Brayshaw assisting him. Johnson was also a purple mid.

2nd quarter the yellow bibs got back into it. Impressed by NOD being a bull in the middle. He didn't play wing instead was inside mid with Erasmus. NOD clearly best mid for yellow as Erasmus although still playing well got caught with the ball a few times.

Sturt looked lively and kicked a dew goals for the match starting with one in the second quarter.

3rd quarter
Game pretty even. Young played so well probably best half back. He did drop a very hard mark in the quarter where Switta crumbed and kicked a goal.

Switta didn't look as lively as he has in intra club match sims but still was potent.

4th Quarter
A fairly even quarter with Sebek looking stronger as the game progressed.

Overall the match was good to watch although very windy and kicks weren't pin point due to this being a factor.

Big wraps on Jackson and Johnson

A few disappointments. Henry just struggles to get involved. Even in a drill between quarters he gets tackled instead of passing it when Walker runs him down. He lacks evasion and quick decision making.

I like the look of Nobel but he holds back a but instead of imposing himself. He could have took a mark 45 out but didn't properly go at it. He just looks like ge could be anything if he isn't as timid.

Wagner and Worner are a little hard to tell apart but both look good. I'm sure it's Wagner who was instrumental off half back with good switching of the play.

Chapman, Tabs and Wilson ran laps and are on modified programs which is common for players at this time of season. Wilson with a finger injury.

Pearce came on after a knock to the leg and appeared fine.

Walters looks the best small forward at the moment being creative. Sturt the best medium forward although Corbett was solid. Jackson the most dangerous tall forward when forward and the most dangerous mid when mid.

Cox is in terrific condition and looks super strong.

Overall a good session

Edit I noticed the Freo Web site say three terms not four. The third appeared to stop half way through for a water break so I just assumed it's 4

Does anyone have the article from the West regarding the Freo training session today. I'd like to read it as it's probably more detailed

Thanks

How did Amiss and Treacy go??

You said Corbett was solid, he says he didn’t play?

I did notice him running laps for part of training.

As it's often flooded in the 50 it can be hard to differentiate between players as many have hats on and no numbers on training tops.

If it wasn't Corbett then it may have been Emmitt.

Some players spend a fair bit of time on the bench while others have full game time.

Edit I was correct he did play

Think I got most of it ... (thanks for your report - yours was far more comprehensive)

Midfield selection squeeze

There’s enough midfield talent at Fremantle to fill two AFL teams right now, judging by this morning’s match simulation session.

Jackson teamed up with fellow young guns Caleb Serong, Andrew Brayshaw and Matt Johnson in the purple team, which also included defender Alex Pearce and veteran goalsneak Michael Walters.

The Melbourne premiership player turned Dockers trade addition had an impressive outing, drifting forward for an early goal and taking a nice mark inside 50.

Brodie was busy at the stoppages, Serong got better as the game went on and Johnson continued to push for an early-season debut.

Winger Liam Henry was impressive for team yellow, while small forward Sam Switkowski kicked a classy goal on the run.

Forward Sebit Kuek showed glimpses of his potential with an exciting mark and goal for the yellows.

Missing in action

Draftee Hugh Davies, spearhead Matt Taberner and defenders Heath Chapman and Nathan Wilson were among the others not taking part, restricted to running laps instead other than Davies who joined some drills as he works his way back from a back injury.

Recruit Josh Corbett started the session away from the main group under the watchful eye of a club medical staffer before the former Gold Coast Sun joined the action in the third 10-minute quarter where he took an eye-catching mark across half-forward.

Injury watch

Young tall Eric ‘Roy’ Benning left the track early after suffering what looked like a right lower-leg injury.

Benning had a brief stint in the ruck alongside fellow youngster Max Knobel before going off in discomfort with a noticeable limp.

Mature-aged draftee Tom Emmett went off for several minutes limping but came back on with his right upper leg strapped up.

Former North Melbourne and Melbourne speedster Corey Wagner had the red cap on for non-contact drills with his right hand bandaged up.

Auditions and extras

Train-on forwards Sam Stubbs and Liam Serong, younger brother of Caleb, got a crack in the match sim, as did Peel Thunder pair Jacob Blight, Ty Anderson and Fremantle Next Generation Academy and South Fremantle talent Chase Bourne who missed out in last year’s draft.

Stubbs and Serong are fighting for the one spot ahead of the February 15 Pre-Season Supplementary Period (SSP) deadline.
