I don't beleive so. I think that rule only applies when you delist a player. He started on the rookie list.
Correct.

But he's done his three years on the rookie list this year so needs to be upgraded.

I'd get it done ASAP if possible. If Amiss gets ahead of him early and Taberner keeps up his normal standards when playing, Treacy might start to think he's not best 22 here and that makes opposition offers much more tempting. No player is going to go 'I need injuries to others to play but player x is always injured so that's pretty much the same'. Either he's happy with his spot in the pecking order or he walks.

Not too dissimilar to Logue last year tbh. Only real differences is that Treacy won't be offered stupid money Logue was and there isn't two players in front of him that'll play for 4-5 years more. It might only take one more year for Taberner to be completely cooked and Treacy might see going past him or even Amiss as reasonably achievable.

Given Taberner's age and injury history I do feel it'd be a borderline a disaster to lose him.

I'm surprised with the lack of patience.

Treacy first year was good as any tall forward.

He gets injured in the preseason and then get glandular fever.

People need to wait a while to make a fair judgement.
Fully expect this board to write off Amiss at some stage too. Development isn't linear.

Matty J. Not paywalled.

Amiss may have topped him the year after but I remember not being more impressed by a first year tall at Freo*

People are way too quick to write him off imo

* I was barely in school when Pav started, so don't claim to know how good he was year one.

Pav was one of those rare players who looked like he belongs from his first AFL game.

Treacy's exposed form was always going to be a problem if he performed, contract wise. What's the benefit for him signing now? If he plays twenty games in 2023 and kicks anything close to forty goals he will have at least one club back in Victoria putting a silly offer in front of him.

Why wouldn't North offer that young player $500,000 for five years?

If I'm Josh's manager I'm telling him to back himself. If I'm on Freo's list management team I'm looking to lock him in early before the form exposure.
Security is the benefit for signing now. You can still get big offers when contracted.

The risk of sitting in the twos when you've barely played and coming out of contract is delisting and a wider perception of not being up to it.

Also a contract extension increases the pressure on the match committee to reward games in the seniors for further development of a player the club's now more invested in for the future.

Here’s a scary prospect for ruckmen across the league this season. Could Luke Jackson make Sean Darcy even better?
For a period of the club’s match simulation at training on Monday, coach Justin Longmuir says prized recruit Jackson had the wood over his new ruck partner, until Darcy exploded and became the most dominant man on the ground.
The pair went head-to-head in the club’s first intra-club game since returning from the summer break — an exciting glimpse at the rich midfield depth they’re taking into 2023.
After what he described as a “good battle”, Longmuir is hoping the pair continue to make each other better and praised Jackson for a strong first pre-season at Cockburn.
“He’s going really well and had the upper hand in the ruck against Sean to start with, but was really pleased with the way Sean fought back and he was probably the most dominant player on the ground after the first little period,” he told SEN.
It was a good battle they’re really pushing each other hard in everything we do, so they’re going to make each other better just by being able to play against each other.
“It was a good hit-out yesterday and both of them came through it pretty well.”
In the wake of leading goal-kicker Rory Lobb’s departure to the Western Bulldogs, Longmuir said both ruckmen would be important to the shape of his new-look forward-line.
One of those guys will spend a fair bit of time forward and both bring different things to the forward-line, but can both win contests,” he said.
“Sean is a great aerialist at his best and Luke can take a contested mark but also win it at ground level.”

Longmuir revealed Jackson took a “knock to the scone” during the session but that the “tough bugger” continued on unscathed.
As for who will be roving at their feet this season, Monday’s match simulation was a first-hand look at their glut of midfield talent.
One midfield group included last year’s break-out star Will Brodie, new signing Jaeger O’Meara and Neil Erasmus, while Jackson hit to established centre bounce pair Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw as well as untried youngster Matt Johnson.
Former Docker Lee Spurr last week told The West Australian Johnson could be the man to fill the shoes of club great David Mundy in the midfield, but Longmuir flagged the “elite runner” could find himself in an outside role.

“Some of them will miss out. We’ll continue to work on secondary roles,” he said.
“We will give opportunities for Erasmus and Johnson in particular, because they’re elite runners, to get out on the wing and see if they can play some wing time.
“We want to squeeze as many of them into the team as we can, but there are only so many spots available.
“With O’Meara coming into the side, he seems a pretty handy replacement for Mundy in my eyes, from what I’ve seen of him so far in the pre-season and Brayshaw and Serong are probably looks — it’s a good problem to have.
“Like I mentioned with the rucks before, they’re going to drive each other to be better through competition.”
Captain Nat Fyfe didn’t take part in the session, but is set to spend time with the forward group this season.

NGA kid that we won't have access to coming to train:

Such a shame that he’s [insert unsubstantiated rumour] and [mummas boy].

And, oh no! Treacy has collided with him and he’ll “miss” the season. 😱

Seriously, half of the budget for the NGA should go into espionage.
