Training 2023 Preseason + training discussion

Looking to head in for Wednesday’s training and will jot some thoughts. Keen to cast an eye over L Serong.

Anyone able to confirm training start time?
Can’t help with training times but I wonder if you can keep an eye out for O’Meara as I’m interested in how he’s going to slot into the midfield and work with the existing midfield. I have my fingers crossed and I’m always grateful for any training notes. Thanks in advance.

I’m down here at the moment and can watch for a while. Not sure what’s going to be on today after match sim yday but I’ll send through something on whatever happens.

Currently 3 smallish groups are doing ball handing drills. If this is all that happens there’ll be nothing to report but we’ll see. The one guy covering the most ground so far is a guy spraying the weeds on the oval using a backpack sprayer. Speed isn’t his thing but he’s getting a good spread.

Main training during pre-season tends to be Mon, Wed, Fri, so doubt you'll see much. I think they do a lot of mental/game plan training in the classroom on Tues/Thursdays.

Bugger, forgot about that. Looks that way.

I’ll try to move my meeting near here to tomorrow and get a look then.

Some gear going out on the oval now so might be something worth watching. Currently the some of the guys are doing the team “Keepy off” handball drill in teams in a confined space.

Backpack has set himself up in a dangerous spot up forward. Not presenting hard enough for mine.

Just me and backpack out here at the moment, I think I’m up to the matchup. His work rate has dropped and he’s gone too wide to be a danger going forward.

Equipment still on the ground so I’ll stick for a little bit yet. I assume there’s a briefing thing going on inside before they come back out for whatever. If nothings happened in 15 then I’ll check out and try to make it tomorrow.

I’ve done my job so well Backpack has been dragged.

Small group of guys have come back out but they’re all in runners so it looks like light skill work etc today and with that I’ll leave.

Sorry folks, nothing happening today so I’ll plan better to be here on the bigger load days in future.
Some blokes just aren't up to the rigours of AFL. I hope the club wishes him well on all his future endeavours.

Amiss may have topped him the year after but I remember not being more impressed by a first year tall at Freo*

People are way too quick to write him off imo

* I was barely in school when Pav started, so don't claim to know how good he was year one.
Schofield reckons he's going to be a jet.

The reason I think he'll come good is that he looks dominant when he plays well because he is so physically imposing. That and he actually leads at the ball.

Tracey has great attributes

I watched JOM spear the ball to him on the perfect lead getting separation from A Pearce and marking it just outside 50. He drilled a 60 m kick straight through the middle with ease.

This was just prior to the Christmas break.

He's a big strong lad.

Both he and Amiss can be the two key forwards in a few years while our young mids are reaching their peak.

I'm surprised with the lack of patience.

Treacy first year was good as any tall forward.

He gets injured in the preseason and then get glandular fever.

People need to wait a while to make a fair judgement.

I personally wouldn't mind us signing Treacy up to a 2 year extension before the season starts
Agreed. Certainly makes much more sense giving him one than other 2yr extensions they've done given relative potential, value, chances of being poached etc.

Treacy's exposed form was always going to be a problem if he performed, contract wise. What's the benefit for him signing now? If he plays twenty games in 2023 and kicks anything close to forty goals he will have at least one club back in Victoria putting a silly offer in front of him.

Why wouldn't North offer that young player $500,000 for five years?

If I'm Josh's manager I'm telling him to back himself. If I'm on Freo's list management team I'm looking to lock him in early before the form exposure.
