Autopsy 2023 Rd 10 Blues lose game in first quarter

Took my son, he was so optimistic on the way in and there was no way I was going to crush that. Carlton ended up doing it in the first half anyway.

Takeaways:

Cripps does give a shit. He was ****ing livid, when his so called team mates executed badly and generally ****ed up you could see his body just slump. He really wants us to be a success. Saw the vision of him and Vossy and it is damning, reckon Voss is losing him.

After half time they did get better, they actually strung together some decent patches of play but again as always entering forward 50 was just the same bomb it long, I mean how have they not figured out that this doesnt work 10 games into the year!!??

We still had a great day, took him out for dinner afterwards and we hit AFL Pro Evo 2 when we got home and have Carlton sitting top with 6 wins and 1 loss ;)

But back on Voss, the players are playing with no passion, no drive. Just going through the motions. I genuinely think he has lost them.

Sydney will give the full picture, they aren't exactly flying and if we cant get points off them next Friday night then hard decisions have to be made. This list is way too talented to be sitting in 11th.

Yep, exactly the same conversation coaches have on the phone all the time - this was on the bench because voss was down there.

Actually I didn't mind seeing Voss talk to Cripps with a bit of angst and passion.

They are all big boys - I'm sure they can take it.

Mature leaders can have a bit of constructive argey bargey too.

There's no hero coming to save us.

This group of board, admin, coaches and players need to dig themselves out of this hole.

A new coach just takes the pressure of other underperforming areas in the short term before the new coach fails and we sack him in the long term.
Yep it's about time the players, coaches and admin decided to stand up together get some shovels and get down to some hard work.

We all understand the areas we lack and need fixing on field...

However, I'm lost to what the real problem holding the club back is...
It has to be either one or a combination of, we've picked the wrong coach all those times, the players, the administration or the Jack Elliott curse...

I'm not sure how we identify what it is...

as Homer might say.... durhhh..

That was the most significant difference in todays game. Players like Mihocech getting superb delivery, as opposed to our faith in bang it long to H or C.
Which forward kicked more goals? M, H or C? and M is a reputed spud.
Didn't help that Weitering was 3-5m behind him ALL DAY LONG.

Bottom line is we've seen very little change from Voss in the past month or so - either in selection or in 'game plan' (not that I know what the plan is)....

At a time when change was much needed (as the status quo was failing badly).

Is he stubborn, stupid or scared?

I doubt it's the latter.

I'm losing faith in him fast.

Sad reality is we cannot sack Voss. We are renowned for being a coach killer club and it’s affecting who wants to come to us. For better or worse Voss needs to finish his contract. If he cannot do shit with the talent at his disposal then it’s obvious to all and sundry he does not deserve another.

I would be looking for A grade assistants starting now, with one of them seriously looking to step into the coaching role 24 mid season if this shit continues.

Our players are dumb and soft. The rest of the year should now be going through the list and deciding who stays and who goes. We have to take a flamethrower to the place and put into place a zero bs approach.

Players need to sit down as a group for two-three days in the bye round and work out the **** what is wrong with the group.

We build with what remains.

Only Weiters, Walsh, Doc, Saad, Boyd, Kemp, Cripps, Kennedy, Owies, Charlie, McKay, JSOS, Cerra, Newman Hollands, Cowan, Binns and maybe 1 or 2 others are exempt.

This is our line in the sand moment. Where we go from here literally dictates the next ten years.

Agree - was thinking Voss may not be the best coach but at the moment he is our coach and not even 18 months into the tenure. About time this club put its head down and did some work !!

What's the old cliche - ....when the going get's tough (also a Billy Ocean lyric although I always though he was saying 'Go and get stuffed')

IMO the current ladder position of most teams is an accurate reference point of where most teams are.. based on this we have

Teams we have beaten and their ladder position - 7th Geelong, Giants 15th, North 17th, Eagles 18th.
Teams we have lost to - Crows 8th, Saints 5th, Lions 2nd, Dogs 6th, Pies 1st
Drawn with Tigers in 14th..

We have played a good selection of the league and I think our current ladder position is an accurate reflection of who we are.. Which is a bog average football team.. We can not beat the good teams and we take care of the poor ones.. This is sobering to realise after all the years of pain, but it is the reality.

Kingy highlights our poor systems and running compared to filths. It’s clear our boys aren’t running in support.

This was blatantly obvious to those at the ground (and it has been for weeks now) but our coaches seem oblivious or are too stubborn/stupid to change.

Dow with all due respect, would have hardly made a lick of difference today, he has had plenty of chances at AFL level and proven he isn't up to it at that level (a rich man's Nick Graham really)

Agree with you about Kemp though. Should be playing in the seniors every game for the rest of the season.
Sorry, not meant as a dig at you personally, just venting in general

My post in the gameday thread...
I think Carlton will bring their absolute best. Collingwood by 4 goals.

I was actually impressed we held on for a 5-goal loss, the Pies did take their foot off the gas a bit. We played our best footy today, which is a lot of effort, a lot of possession but ultimately no class.

I tipped us to finish 11th based on having individually brilliant players but essentially lacking a culture built on success.
