Cheers for the info, you nailed the Pittonet contract. I think Jack plays a really important role for us that the coach only seems to remember when he’s out of the team so I don’t agree with his omission if it happens.

Jack is slow, misses targets and, for someone his height, is an invisible contested marking option. It's a shame, he's heart and soul.

TDK is no better by foot but is a superior ruck and makes a genuine impact in every pack, regularly bringing the ball to ground if he doesn't mark it. Our crumbers know to be front of the pack when he's in one.

Hearing Fisher In. JSOS out this week

Sent from my SM-N981B using Tapatalk

JSOS out is a good move - is offering nothing at the moment, spends half his time falling over

Fisher in isnt a good move based on what others have said about his form - but we all know form isnt a consideration for AFL promotion, hell, Honey got promoted on the back of a 5 possession game.....

The Paddy Dow fan cult is really starting to annoy me.

He has shown next to nothing in relative terms of where he was taken in the draft, and yet, has become a beacon of hope for those posters with an blatant and undisguised anti Voss Agenda.

I know which horse I would back to still be @ Carlton next year that's for sure ..

No player is bigger than the club (or coach fot that matter)
Time to cool off buddy!

it's not just about Paddy Dow, it's about every player on the list, because it's about selection integrity and reward for effort

if you don't have that integrity, it sends all the wrong messages to the entire playing group.

My reading is that most on here know he may be limited and most probably won't be at Carlton next year.

But most of us have been at footballs clubs (they are all the same in this regard) and when the side is losing, players are performing poorly (I think you'll agree) and you have a guy in the Ressie's knocking up getting kicks I can't see how you cannot give him a game.

If we were flying fair enough but even if it's just to send a message to some of the big dogs in the team that they aren't protected species.

Team selection has been the weirdest thing about this season for me.

I agree with most of our omissions but promotions look to me like the match committee over-thinking things - following an obsession with finding like-for-like players regardless of form.

Even picking Boyd over Cincotta last week looked odd in hindsight. Boyd was hardly beating down the door after a couple of mediocre VFL games. They could easily have picked Dow or Binns (both beating the door down in good form for many weeks) and pushed Doc into a more full time defensive role as well as Kennedy/Cotterel/Cerra/etc a bit more time at half back.

If we just picked players in form and compromised a bit more on preferred playing positions I think we'd be on a better footing (within reason).

What shouldn't be taken lightly also is the perseverance and positive attitude he (Dow) has shown by turning up every single week to some suburban footy oval and busting his gut.

And he does this week after week after not getting picked in the main team. I spoke to him briefly at the Charlie's Crew event and he couldn't have been nicer or more positive.
He's definitely a good character young man.

Since the loss to Adelaide, during our 5 game losing streak interrupted by a wafl exhibition, we've omitted 4 players. Not including those made sub next week to spare their feelings, just those actually dropped. Fisher, Kemp, cincotta and honey.

We won't try anything new unfortunately.
At least Kemp is back this week.

We swung from over-rigid over defensive Bolton, to the "Do as you feel" Teague era, now back to the over-rigid over defensive stuff under Voss. Can't we find some sort of balance?

I have a contact involved in another club (Hawks) who believes very strongly that on top of the midseason draft we really do need to have a midseason trading period.

He actually used Dow as his example. Consistently among the bests at the VFL level yet never gets an opportunity at Carlton. There are teams out there towards the bottom of the ladder - West Coaat, Hawthorn, North, etc. - many of whom have injury lists a mile long. Dow would be a warm, healthy, veteran body who would save that club from sending a kid into the seniors well before they're ready (quite detrimental to development). The club would get a look to see how the player fit into their club culture and to see if they fit without the long term investment.

Carlton couldn't ask for much but would essentially trade out a player they have no plans for but also trade in a player from Hawthorn or a third team who fits our needs better. If not, you add some cheap future draft capital and a pick at the midseason draft that is held at the conclusion of the trade period. The acquiring team simply forfeits their open list spot by acquiring the player

The player receives an AFL lifeline. You get to a team who values you enough to trade you in and who will be prepared to play you. If you demonstrate yourself to be of the grade then you have a much higher likelihood of a new contract than simply becoming a delisted free agent.

Of course there's other uses for a midseason trade period as well. However, for those players lost on AFL lists with no real prospect at their current club it'd save some careers. If not at least the player would know they'd been afforded an opportunity.
Midseason trade period will be especially crucial if list sizes are limited even further.
