I’m pretty ambivalent about Dow but fmd he has to leave to get a chance somewhere else.
Dow's been squeezed out because we've already spent his future wages on others, certainly not because we are going to draft a better player with pick 45 or something.
He'll forge a good midfield career elsewhere, and good luck to him.

Dow is Dow…his style won’t stand up in finals with his lack of 2 way running….but will carve out another 100 plus games at another club..good luck to him if he does.

I like him but his upside isn’t as big as others on the list.

Handy sub on this occasion

I agree Dow has been hard done by somewhat, but let's not forget we drafted Kade Simpson with pick 45 back on the day.

And no. I highly doubt future wages on other players would have anything to do with it.

He's actually been squeezed out because the coaching panel, rightly or wrongly, believed that with the return of Cripps and Cerra there wasn't a spot available for him in the midfield.

He's next cab off the rank if there is a late withdrawal, if not he's the sub.

Would've rather we play Young instead of Pitto. TDK has been in career best form as the no.1 ruckman in the past few weeks so it'll be interesting to see how squeezing in Pitto works.

IMO TDK is the better forward and the better ruck...but both are limited forwards. I see it something like:

Ruck rankings: TDK 9 > Pitto 8 > JSOS 4

Forward rankings: JSOS 7 > TDK 4 > Pitto 2

So by my non-scientific estimations, we're going from a 16 to a 12.

Big upgrade on Honey.
In some ways, but I'm worried about our forward half pressure as the game wears on with him and Motlop in the F50, unless they plan on serious injecting one or both of them into stoppages.
he ain't that type of impact player.......in fact marchy & impact aren't that great in the same statement.........
Here, I'll do it: Marchy has fantastic defensive impact through his read and athleticism.

Looks fine
One change I feel that has gone unnoticed is they’ve gone from a 7,7,7 to a 7,6,8 set up with cameos.

I think they’ve massively focused on keeping fresh legs in the front half to keep the pressure up. So now they consistently go for:

  • 2 wings playing 90 percent (this week hollands and acres) with cotta playing wing cover for 20.
  • 4 central mids rotating the 3 spots (this week Cripps cerra hewett Doc)

  • CC 95 percent game time
  • SOS/(now tdk) 60 forward 20 ruck
  • cotta 65 forward after his wing cover
  • leaving 380 between 5 players (Martin Fogarty Cuners owies and Motlop).

It’s a lovely balance. The midfield is tough and hard as hell. The forwards will apply enormous pressure. Set up for the interceptors to try and mark and launch.

We are a chance to cause them some real problems.
Despite there being a tilt towards forward on paper, I think this is actually a very defensive side. Seems Cuningham will get a fair bit of stoppage time, while we'll be heavily relying on a 4-man outside mid rotation but Hollands, Acres, Docherty, and Cottrell all flogged themselves last week in various roles.

Motlop will surely get a lot of time around stoppages, or our forward pressure will drop off much in the same way it did earlier in the year.

Really not feeling the Pittonet selection, which seems like a desperate move to control the stoppage instead of swarming and reading the tap. This all has the potential to walk back the work that's been done, but I'm partly basing this on how much Pittonet's performance in the VFL fell away after about 35 minutes.

Who knows, maybe we'll swing Kemp forward, funnel the ball in transition through Motlop, and get Fogarty picking up even more slack defensively through midfield. But none of these forwards are really offering fresh legs, and that's a concern.

Somewhat expecting a late out, possibly 1 or 2 of Pittonet, Hollands, and McGovern.

IMO Marchbank, Weitering, Kemp & Gov is too tall a defence,
we've been playing well with a smaller more nimble defence...

With JSOS out we're a tall forward short, I'd play Gov up there in patches, not all game...
Gov's a marking tall to help nullify their tall marking intercept defenders...
