When I was younger I wondered who these unicorns were - North and Dees supporters... but growing up in country Vic in an area predominantly Pies and Cats supporters, I suppose it makes sense...

I like how the media has focused on the Marchbank touch on the line which denied Melbourne the win.

Not a single mention about the two times Petracca threw the ball which resulted in goals. First was that 10 metre blatant throw over his head which got them their first goal. The other was the Hollands tackle which he threw to Langdon which resulted in goal to Neil-Bullen.

The one small criticism I have to level at the players was their handling of the last 2 minutes. Winning possession and then just bombing it long to the boundary was uncharacteristic of how they had been playing all night and felt like inexperience. I could be wrong but a little composure may have made a huge difference there. All game they were taking possession and looking for the next link in the chain, not just dropping it on the boot (which was how we were playing at our worst).

I am sure they will go through it and the team be better off for it, but it concerns me that under the extremes of maximum pressure they may revert back to that style of footy which will be catastrophic.

Saying that the game was a final without actually being a final so great experience and this team does seem to want to iron out mistakes and create a legacy.

There was literally no one to kick to or there was one on four, there was no other option. Keep the ball in play and it just rebounds straight back so better off going OOB and getting a few seconds to reset. There were two blunders however, Blacres clearing the ball straight into the middle instead of going for the line and also Newman's awful right footer that also went into the middle. Lucky Salem couldn't kick the goal. But the pressure was immeasurable and we still held on.

We were very lucky in that last 2 minutes. Set up poorly and some horrid decision making. Certainly didn't look like a side that was prepared for it well enough.
Agreed, all the deliberate out of bounds were correct decisions- or insufficient intent. I actually love the rule. The demons were pressing and kept getting rewarded for our inability to do anything but clear the ball wildy.

Think Voss touched on this as area we need to work on. Acres was massive in the last two minutes but that skewed kick to the centre was a heart stopper. Defensively we held up brilliantly but we didn't set up down the line properly.

Been a lot of love for TDK….but not enough.

His second half was out of this world. The spoil at the end was all heart mother *er. He’s all heart. He’s come of age.

I would like him to ruck 80 percent now. I think Pitto gets one more game due to Witts. Then it’s over to TDK and sos.

He is in fact a lionheart. Gives 110% every time. Combined with his athleticism he's going to be unstoppable if he maintains this attitude.

Gee whiz I was having flashbacks of last year in the final 2 mins. Marchbank is special. Finally people are seeing that our list really is top tier and that it isn’t overrated, and with many outs also the depth ain’t too bad either. I doubt we’ll finish in the 4 but 5th and vs dees/pies and knock them out in straight sets would be the dream. But how many balls does TDK wanna let straight through his hands. He shouldn’t be playing as a forward in the long term.

Hmmm that's a very narrow minded opinion. The hardest part is getting into a position where you can actually mark it. Do that on a consistent basis and the marks will come.

Re-watched the last quarter today. Pittonet was simply huge in it, without many stats.

Gawn was trying to get physical ascendancy in each ruck contest and Pitto simply wouldn’t let him. Prevented them from getting any space outside of the stoppage.

It was a huge under-the-radar performance.

I reckon they are tactics our ruck coach would have learned rucking against guys like Sandilands. Kreuzer probably doing a pretty good job, really liked DeKoning's rucking as well, just hitting bodies and crashing into the opposition ruck.

You need 30 really good AFL quality players to win a flag and we have that now. It's been so so soooo important that some of our players have come on this year. Hollands, Fisher, Cerra, Dow, Motlop, Owies, Fogarty, Marchbank, McGovern, Cuningham, Martin, Boyd, Cincotta all going to a level where they are fit and playing AFL footy.

The one that really stings is Williams, he was very fit, was having a ripping preseason before he went down. But you look at that list and there is a heap of good half backs stepping up, giving us depth and making us better.

Absolutely loved the quality and intensity we play with. It's infectious, it's become a standard. To see guys come in who weren't rated at the start of the year and be the reason we beat a top side is just brilliant to watch.

His game has improved this season - was very wet underfoot Saturday night which contributed to a tough overhead marking night.
That said, McKay coming back will reduce the need for TDK to play long stretches forward.

I don’t think that was the case. I believe everything in the last few minutes was deliberate from both teams. Melbourne we’re in win it mode and we were in save it mode. The funny thing is that Melbourne started the game in save it mode which was probably the catalyst to our win.

I thought Hewett set the tone early in the game.

He was all over it in the 1Q.

He was absolutely on fire. Attacking/tackling with full ferocity.

Probably best game I’ve seen him play.
He was massive big George

No doubt it was. It's only going to get harder from here. Intensity goes up a few notches so we need to be better prepared. Sat behind the play on level 2 and it was clear we were somewhat disorganised. Martin not completely sure if he should be behind the footy or in the forward half. Same with some of the other deep forwards. There is no way Charlie should have been left one out against 3 demons players.

It's a positive though. Plenty to work through and a great time to be put in a position like that.
Learnings.

You can’t buy that type of intense experience and I bet the team review will highlight not only the manic individual positive acts but also strategy and setup for next time. To have gone through that … and won … is invaluable.
