Out: D50 Turnovers
In: better ball movement out of the d50
In: defense and mids connection

Opposition Strategy Analysis: Teams are playing man to man against our kick ins - guarantee the dogs will do the same

Blues Strategy: our slow midfielders will set some screens for the fleet of foot to provide an option for the defenders to hit instead of just whacking it on the boot to the 50m line

for crying out loud, mids and half forwards, get on your bike and offer an option to the defenders, standing in the spot you want the ball kicked to only works against a zone defense not man to man

In: Cottrell, Kennedy, Owies
Out: Hollands, E Curnow, Honey

Ollie has done well, but time for a spell I think. Cotts has played well enough in the 2's to warrant a call up. Same as Owies.

Ed, time to pack it in mate. Kennedy clearly deserves to be out there, he was among our best last week despite only playing a quarter.

Newman was pathetic last Sat. The club still fought to overturn his ban so they're obviously backing him in to bounce back.

Weiters.. seriously mate if he puts in another stinker I want him out for a month so he can sort his personal issues out.

Lewis Young is on notice too.. that handball to Bailey was absolute horseshit. No wonder Voss dragged him straight away.

Cripps ffs, let's hope he doesn't disappear again. And hopefully someone at the club got stuck into him for laughing last week. Pathetic from the captain of the club to behave that way after another loss which saw about 10k people walk out at 3qtr time...

Jim just fainted...
Yellow orb shape with streams coming from eye regions indicating strong mirth reaction due to said poster's well known antipathy to player mentioned......

1. The first thing I would do if I were Voss is to go back to what was working for him last year when all players were available and that is:

Pittonet, Cripps, Cerra, Hewett, Walsh and Kennedy as the on ballers and let them run the ball and use hands to link with each other with proper line running from Docherty and Saad in CBB wins- I want them pressing forward and attacking not hanging back ...

2. The second thing I would seriously consider is to fix the forward pressure by including Owies for Honey ( whose stats are very similar to Durdin and Motlop so might be unlucky ) and put McGovern back in the forward line who would add a dangerous marking option and reliable kick at goal - as well as needed mongrel. Kemp/Young Weitering are all capable intercept markers...

3. The third thing I would do is to trust the fab5 to halve CBB and halve around the ground clearances - allowing for the forward lines to hold structure- withdrawing defensive press as an option that has been killing Carlton against faster sides....Acres and Hollandds naturally keep width so they can keep doing what they do.

4. The fourth thing I would do is fix the forward positioning and make it consistent so players can read each other and mids can have a consistent plan to kick to...eg if I were Voss would be to insist that Harry runs his lines only on the side of the field that favours his natural and usually very accurate kicking - deepish - and that McGovern looks to receive higher in the forward fifty to wards teh arc and Charlie can do whatever he likes- this leaves the smalls to be proper crumbers and or find their own unmarked space- something Owies is very good at doing.

It would be nice to see some genuine mongrel from the players in contests - probably the biggest negative I have on Vossy's coaching - where is it Vossy?

Of course McGovern i unlikely to happen - but i expect Owies and Kennedy to be starting players with Ed as the sub - so he isnt officially omitted like Honey will be for Owies.

Last year, even in the back half, I was always comfortable with the brand of footy we were playing

At the moment, I am finding it hard which version will show up

Right now, the best statement we can make is the level of intent
I see us winning marginally…in a scrap. And we’ll be none the wiser as to what we’re doing.

I would make limited personnel changes and focus on getting some connection between the defenders and mids. We need Walsh, Holland’s, Acres, Durdin, Cincotta and Saad providing options for the kick outs after burning off opponents. Everyone else don’t just stand where they are leading, block for them.

In: Owies
Out: Honey

B: McGovern Weitering Newman
HB: Cincotta Young Saad
C: Acres Cripps Hollands
HF: Walsh McKay Durdin
F: Owies C Curnow Silvagni
R: Pittonet Hewett Cerra

IC: Docherty (M/W), Ed Curnow (M/F), Motlop (F), Kemp (D)

Sub: Kennedy

I think Kennedy coming into the game in the 3rd quarter is the best strategy we have had from the MC this year - leave it

Ed Curnow apparantly only had 1 tackle and 5 PAs, wouldnt be surprised if he makes way, but he did have 5 Score Involvements, Cottrell???

Agree .. no point in saying you believe you have the right midfield mix if you have to send the half fwd up to help them ..

If he's good to go, TDK should come back in.

We won more games with him in the side.

Brings the ball to ground nearly every time. Sometimes he'll even mark one. Means Harry doesn't have to get up the ground as much.

JSOS is on borrowed time. Turning it over a lot atm.

To be fair quite a few others are also turning it over.

Let’s just take the bloody game on like we did the first half of last year
Exciting to watch and bloody hard to stop
Our personnel is no different if slightly better
Get rid of this stagnant crap
If us lepers can see this , why can’t the powers to be see it?
Opposition won't let us play that way and when we do and cough it up, it hurts.

Glad to see someone else saw that.
The role I talked about a few times. We missed him last game, or at least that clean up role.
He wasnt there to win the ball much, but always there as a spare.

Never said he did it well ;)

Honestly, if we could find another small forward option (ie. Martin or Cunners ever finding fitness) then I'd like to see Durdin in that floating outside mid role. The times I've seen him getting the ball on the wing, he's been very assured. Navigates traffic well, lowers the eyes and hits leading targets further up the wing. Can tackle.

Agreed. Not saying that either. Fisher was trying in that role, had moments, but its not enough, hence was dropped.
Durdin could do it.

A decent HFF would change things also. Seems we have a lot of utilities but low on specialists.

I would never play FIsher again until he learns that tackling your direct opponent is part of your role - he has been takin teh pizz out of his team mates for years.

Need to bring back the huddle

It’d be fascinating to know what feedback and instructions Voss gave to Fisher, and what he had to work on in the VFL. Not convinced just one week out of the senior team fixes things so selection will be interesting. Hoping he works on his pressure, tacking and ‘intent’ because he has a range of tools we desperately need.

BOTH of Carlton’s AFL and VFL teams will be in action at Marvel Stadium this Saturday.

While this week would’ve been the VFL bye, it has now been confirmed that the Carlton Reserves will take on the AFL Academy this Saturday evening.

The action will kick off from 4:10pm, with gates opening from 4pm: entry into the AFL game will cover entry into the practice match.
