Both Melbourne and Collingwood have won a flag in the last 3 years with star Key Defenders and no key forwards to speak of. May, Lever and Darcy Moore are as important to those sides as any key forward to theirs.

Very valid point. Maybe I'm stuck in the past with my thinking. I still think those sides would be exponentially better with one key tall forward. You don't require two, but I do like one tall vocal point when required. Tigers made it work with Rewiodlt before Lynch came along.

Sydney have brought in Grundy, Adams, Hamling, Jordon and have lost Stephens and a few 2nd rounders.

Port will bring in Soldo, Esava, BZT and Sweet for Duursma, a 2024 first and a bunch of 2nds and 3rds.

In the context of trade period yes. I tend to agree.

However, We upgraded to another 1st round pick. Which means we are about to hit the draft and gain 3 top end players who could all make immediate impacts.

Although we lost two best 22 players Doedee and McAdam, I feel the Crows stayed true to a strategy. They didnt panic buy C grade fringe players to fill positions using our value picks. We may have lost the battle of trade week and will take a bit of a hit on our best 22 experience next year but because we stayed true to our draft pick value we will get it back in spades long term. At least we chased high end targets and not as I said, do a Port.

Long term planning gets an A.

I would think it’s an embargo on official announcements to the public. The clubs would have to be told what’s going on so they know the current state of play. Then again, this is the AFL…

If you're trading a player for pick 40+ you're basically getting nothing back. Does it really matter whether it's pick 46 or 53?
