Port with no picks lol. Maybe Butters going back to Victoria will get them a couple of first rounders.
An elite Vic midfielder that could easily command $1m+ a year, the Vic teams will come hard for him next year, especially more so if Port have the year that I expect them to have, that is failing to make the 8.

Not exactly ideal list management to have Walker, Smith, Sloane, McHenry, Sholl, Hamill, Bond, Parnell, Himmelberg, and Cook all coming out of contract at the same time.

Walker might earn himself another contract, and maybe Bond given he's a younger player (but I doubt it).

The rest should all be moved on which is 8 players in the one year.

Really we should be paying out the contract of Hamill and trading Himmelberg to get two extra selections/new players in this year just to balance it out a bit

And this frequently happens during a rebuild. Clubs bring in a whole bunch of players at once then need to shed the ones that don't work out, and usually you find out about these guys at a similar time as the best 22 takes shape.

The worst outcome would be handing out another year to guys like Smith or McHenry or Sholl that definitely aren't part of the future just because we can't fill 8 list spots at once
Walker and Smith will get 1-year contracts.
Sloane, Sholl, Hamill, Bond, and Himmelberg gone I should think. Sholl and Berg have transfer value. Jury out on Bond as he played little this year.
Based on this year McHenry, Parnell and Cook may get extended.

Doubt McHenry gets extended. If Parnell doesn’t get games next year I’d say he’s also in trouble.

I think you are right based on what the club will do. Although I wouldn't rule out us extending Sholl and Himmelberg (both are easy delists if the club is serious)

However in my opinion Smith is cooked now and is only going to be worse if he's still playing at 33 in 2025

McHenry is the easiest delist of all time. Easily replaceable at the draft with a late pick that could be better.

Maybe a bit harsh to put Cook in the delist pile as I still think he has something, but is yet to show it consistently. If he can't in his fourth season I would cut him.

We could retain Parnell as depth but we will have probably seen enough by the end of 2024

So just to get this straight. After the Soldo and Ratugolea deals, Port will be left with

2023: Pick 50, 76, 94
2024: 2nd round, 3rd round

Assume they will need to give up something for Sweet as well.

Their depth this year was horrible, evidenced by the SANFL team.

An unbalanced list will have Soldo, Sweet, Hayes, Visentini, Scully, K.Marshall…all over 200cm. Lycett TBC.

Dixon, Boak, McKenzie all coming to the end.

Clearly boom or bust. A significant injury to Rozee or Butters next season and it will derail overnight.
1000s piece puzzle continue, it's not that impressive given Lycett is cooked.......

Every year clubs have 12-15 players coming out of contract. Bond will get another 2 years. Barring injury Walker and Smith go again. I suspect McHenry as well.

It's fine to have 12-15 players coming out of contract. The issue we have is having 8+ players that should be moved on all at once. Most clubs would want to retain a chunk of the out of contract players.

Ideally we'd have staggered out some of those delists a bit better, with some going this year

If Petty really wanted the move he could have been a bit more demanding he seemed a bit well I'd like it but I'm not gonna push it.
Should've pushed the go-home factor more, like Charlie Cameron did. We all know it's the money, but if you don't have another reason, the club will hold you to your contract.
