So you know how to respond to some postsOR covered up
You don't reckon Geelong reaped the benefit of the tough love dealt to Tyson after he was cut for his indiscretion? Both. The clubs coach sets the tone. The club recruited a known bad influence into the club. The player is obviously loose but that’s the type of player that needs a strong club.
Look at Stengle at Adelaide v Geelong, one club got the best out of him and turned him into a premiership player, the other couldn’t be that club.
So he could have gone to any club and the same outcome? You don't reckon Geelong reaped the benefit of the tough love dealt to Tyson after he was cut for his indiscretion?
FWIW, I don't think we should have cut him (for our own selfish reasons), but in terms of his development arc, him being cut was a massive kick up the arse and all round reality check for him. Geelong's ability to 'get the best out of him' was more about opportunism, swooping in and reaping the benefits of the reality check we gave him.
Good on them for doing so, but it's apples and watermelons in terms of the comparison on this one.
Define 'same outcome'?So he could have gone to any club and the same outcome?
Play career best football, have his off field life under controlDefine 'same outcome'?
Was Eddie Betts at the other clubs? So he could have gone to any club and the same outcome?
See this is what I don’t get about this board. The point being made is clubs do impact on a players development, on and off field. That’s why a clubs culture is talked up so much. Some clubs have a very strong culture, some like Melbourne we are seeing at the moment don’t. Part of that is down to the example of set by the coach. Stengle going to Geelong or Stengle going to Melbourne could have led to 2 different outcomes. Was Eddie Betts at the other clubs?
If you read the article that was written about Stengle and his return to AFL football.. and the words of Anna (eddies missus) when they interviewed her for the article.. She actually credits WWT for helping Tyson turn it all around and resurrecting his career.. not Geelong. He was already on track before he landed at geelong..So he could have gone to any club and the same outcome?
My understanding is that part of the reason Stengle was able to pull his socks up because he was living with Eddie and Anna. Now, is that attributable to Geelong the Club?See this is what I don’t get about this board. The point being made is clubs do impact on a players development, on and off field. I get accused of not letting go but this is a classic example, posters popping in putting their two cents in who don’t even understand the argument which keeps it going.
Does that go both ways ?Why is it always something wrong with the player, never our fault?
If Geelongs coach was shall we say “loose” and a recent recruit was even “looser”, would that have been a good environment for Stengle? My understanding is that part of the reason Stengle was able to pull his socks up because he was living with Eddie and Anna. I think that’s the main point , he needed to be at a really strong club with strong leaders and valuesHe helpedthemwinaflag

This whole discussion started with Oliver and how much it’s the player and how much the club. Clearly the Melbourne club environment isn’t a good one.
Well I guess they are not at the club right now as they are on their end of season break... So maybe that is what he meant??“Nick Murray and Jordon Butts are no longer with the club”
Hahahahaha… come on Mutineer.. there is no way you are that naive..Not totally correct re dumping him, he was told if he went back to the SANFL and kept his nose clean and behaved himself we'd revisit it, pretty sure it was his/his management's decision to have the Crows void his contract at that time not the Crows?
It's amazing how low the bar is set for footy journalism. There are kids working at McDonalds with more professionalism.OMG haha that's the worst footy journalism I've read for a while
Yeah..Nope, it was his/managements decision to void his contract.
Absolutely. I think his career best footy stemmed from getting his off field life under control, which stemmed from the almighty reality check he received around the repercussions for him if he didn't.Play career best football, have his off field life under control
Yeah..
Cause the other option, that the crows had given them, was totally unworkable..

I'm not downplaying Geelong's role in helping him achieve that - they are a great club that's well run. But he was going to show a improvement in attitude, focus and (as a result) form wherever he went.
Leopards don't change their spotsDo you really think he isn't still doing the same things off field at Geelong...
Do you think there aren't other players currently on our list playing well who have similar issues?
Imagine turning up and you have Chris Scott , Jezza Cameron and the Hawk next to you , Selwood up the field a bit , Isaac Smith , Dangerfield etcAbsolutely.
