FMD .. surely they're joking?

AFL have probably told West Coast they have to accept a deal that is unders to try and give North another leg up.

But in all seriousness, I think West Coast will end up trading pick 1. I also don't think it will involve pick 2 and 3, I am thinking pick 2, 15 and 18. Or North will get a 3rd club involved and try to include another top 10 pick.

Yeah, I imagine WC will want Curtin, so any deal that doesn't involve pick 2 is probably off of the table

If I was WCE, the price I would set to North is pick 2, 15 and their F1...and that F1 is crucial as it could be a top 5 pick in a midfielder heavy draft next year. WCE can play the longer game in their list rebuild. get Curtin or McKercher this year, grab a project tall with the other pick in this draft and then load up on 2 top end mids next year.

Anything less than that, tell north to flip one..what do you think Shuestar13

Funny, was about to post it and ask if they are high

I know we all like to LOL Norf, but there's no way that story is true. No club, including North, would even think about making an offer like that, even as a starting point.

If West Coast can turn pick 1 into pick 2 plus whatever (and the "whatever" is going to be significant), they're getting picks for nothing. I suspect they don't really care about pick 1 / Reid that much but whoever wants it / Reid is going to have to pay up.

If this is now legal, why doesn’t every club do this every time?
2 years $1m for Doedee, get pick 11 as band 1 and then they change it to 4 years at $500k.
AFL rules have become absurd since that Bowes trade last year.
The EXACT thing Crows we’re trying to engineer with Crouch (artificially high draft pick) which was torn to fn threads by VIC media is now “just get it done and move on”. Breathtaking hypocrisy

If he’s unrestricted yes it is, typical afl bullshit

It's interesting. The was talk a week or so back that the AFL are now looking at building contract length into the formula for calculating FA compensation.

If that were the case, dodgy deals like the above would likely have far less value.

They could've avoided this to some degree by simply holding clubs like Brisbane (Daniher) to the contract FA compensation was awarded on. Sure extend Daniher after he's signed, but don't allow the clubs to smooth out the payments.

This was the loophole that Brisbane found for Daniher wasn't it?

2/3 years at 800K (or more) get him to sign a two year extension for around 350/400K a year. Got Essendon band 1 and essentially was just a front ended contract but if they had offered 5 years at an average of 600K it would have been band 2/3

Yeah Curtin seems like the obvious choice for them. Lock in the local lad who will they can build their back line around. And then grab another couple of first rounders.

If they can somehow get North's future first that would be massive. I can't see North giving that up though.

Funny how both WEagles and Norf were trying to win so hard in the last 2 games each in hindsight…

Weagles would need pick 2, another top pick (perhaps Kangas first rounder 2024) or another top 7-8 pick this year as a minimum
