Shouldn't Chol be a 'lifetime' delisted free agent? Or does that not apply with him being in contract?

From Wiki...

Chol was delisted by the club in 2018 before being immediately re-rookied in the 2019 rookie draft. In 2019 Chol won a VFL premiership while playing with the Richmond reserves side. Chol moved from Richmond to Gold Coast as a free agent in October 2021.

He’s got 2 more years under contract

Having seen much of the pre season I can confirm that Dawson trained mainly as a backline player.

I was concerned at the time we would have too much cover in this position. MM Smith Milera hinge doedee worrel etc

I just want to clear up things from many posters asking this question. I dont want to derail this thread on rumours

It gets better - not only are they fully on board with pick 3, we now have commentary like this which again directly cuts our lunch as we are a club rumoured to be keen for pick 10. I hate the VFL pr machine and those in charge at VFL house, I really do

Pick 3 for Roos.

What a joke.

No one would ever trade pick 3 for McKay. FA compensation needs to be binned.

Essendon get a player for free, North get pick 3 and a bunch of salary relief to go after another player, and every other club gets their draft pick moved back a space compromising who they can take. Makes sense.

It’s not the systems fault. If Essendon are giving MaCkay 6 years at $800k then band 1 is fair. The problem is the ridiculous offer for someone who has nothing going for him other than size.

They don't need pick 1 and they don't need another midfielder, Curtin is legitimately a better option for them

Correct, this is all on Essendon offering ridiculous overs for an average at best player.

Spending that on a key defender is silly in general.

Of the AA key defenders:

Wilkie, rookie draft.
Sicily, pick 56.
Allir, pick 44, was then traded for chips.
Andrews, pick 61.
McGovern, rookie draft.
Grimes, PSD.
Gibson, rookie draft, then traded for chips.

I could keep going, you can find so many great options in the bargain bin that it makes no sense to offer big contracts for someone who’s not even elite level.

It was about beating Hawthorn to the punch, if I was Ben I would have more than likely picked Hawthorn over Essendon as a club, but maybe he doesn't like brown and yellow

Essendon fan growing up apparently

Also mentioned somewhere he had a good relationship with Scott before he left North

I think the unfairness is when the player is traded after 2 years and another club is responsible for the wage.

Or a Joe Daniher situation happens

That is true, Hawks also offered him $850k and I think the Swans offered him more. I think it is nuts but oh well.

The photo afl.com.au used for the Ben McKay announcement is a shocker.. why does he look like one of those giant Easter Island heads?
