Doc’s mark and play on, and bounce threw them into total chaos because had he marked and gone back he’d have kicked to May. He took them all out of play by taking ground and kicking long. He did the unexpected. Just like Weiters did. Can’t really plan for it. I don’t really think Melb did that much wrong. It’s all easy in hindsight. People act like Acres was alone for 10 minutes. He snuck forward for 30. It’s just not that easy with the crowd screaming and the ball going across the ground. Impossible for them to have their eyes everywhere.

They just got beaten by a brilliant play. Simple as that.
I heard kingy and dermie talking about it. They said that Acres got dumped heavily just before it all happened and was holding his shoulder. He went to run off to go to the bench and was waved back to go up forward. As a result he was by himself.

Funny how things happen.

I thought Garry Lyon was superb. Actually projected a genuine excitement about the Carlton win when he must have been seething about Melbourne losing what they had won.

He goes up a notch in my book. Very professional. Imagine E McGuire in that situation ?

regardless, mcguire is a huge loss to footy calling - he's one of the best, old style..........

How on earth can they only play the song once after that game? I assume it's to do with it being Melbournes home game and them being the sorest of losers? It was great it resulted in us belting it out acapella, but ridiculous that we had to.

Haha, didn't matter.

Crowd decided to sing to sing it about 15 times more after that!

Just saw the SEN footage of the Blues radio with Andy Maher, Dominator and Sellers versus the Demons radio with Tom Morris and some nuffie.

Seriously - is that the best the Demons could come up with ? That was embarrassing !!
Carlton has a million supporters to their 10, we have options .. I was suprised they even did it .. sounded like a local footy club … the Carlton one I would love to see if fev , Sam pang and Maher , even rotate it , gorridge , Dylan Buckley and Maher .. myself another nuffie in here and Maher , would be sick

Bit of fuss about nothing in this and other threads about who won or lost the game. Multiple things can all be true:

- We were unlucky to be missing H and Martin

- We were lucky that Melbourne failed to take the opportunities they had to close out the game

- We were good enough to take our opportunity when the moment presented

It's silly to get upset with media types for pointing out Melbourne's contribution to losing the game. It's true, it happened. No 2 minute grab is going to provide a comprehensive account of reasons for the result. By far the majority of the discussion since the final siren has been about how good we were, particularly in those last moments. I have no issue with the media rounding things out by also pointing out where Melbourne failed.
Good post , you won’t get a lot of love in this forum for this post but I also felt we got lucky but I always feel like their is a footy god and some outcomes happen for a reason .. last year I was at the melb Collingwood game and I had scars and couldn’t believe how that happened for a long time .. this time it went in our favour , ebbs and flows , enjoy the ride and hopefully same thing happens next 2 weeks .. go baggers

Herculean effort by Doc to get both arms above his head full stretch to mark during the destiny play. From someone who regularly popped a shoulder, I'm still in disbelief.
I’ve dislocated my shoulder about 30 times. When fresh after just being out and put back in I have full movement, no pain, and just feels a little loose. It’s waking up the next morning where it starts stiffening up and being achy. He’ll get physio, massage, sling it when at rest and he’ll be able to play. Look at Maynard he has a loose shoulder he continues to play with each week.. worst case for Doc unless there is too much bone damage or wear on the socket is he pops it again, they put it in, rinse and repeat till surgery end of season.

He could be lucky and have one of those dislocations that are a once off.. but he really would need 4-6 weeks rest to guarantee proper healing and tightening to the stretched tendons.

He wasn’t dumped he went for a crazy mark running back with the flight of the ball without any care for his battered shoulder and landed heavily
He was just not going to let Melbourne mark the ball again

That call-out by the coach in the players address after the game and his big massive smile is brilliant

Yep. Kudos for that.
I do take the point over Weiters though.

Exactly. Gotta say I was too busy making unwelcome advances to strangers to notice.

2013 team were so much more skilled and I dare say talented than the 2013 version, but geez these guys show so much more grit than many Carlton sides who have come before them.
Our Premiership teams of the 80's and 90's had plenty of grunt too, not just skill. You need both to win flags. We're not complete yet IMO, but I think we have a nice balance of both right now.

This is such a brutal game, it's impossible to play it at full intensity for an entire season. I think skill can get you into the top 6, but it'll be intensity and grunt/grit that gets you all the way when the heat's really on in September.

So our slump was a cunning plan?

Excellent!
Genius even.
