Finally got around to watching the ressies v Geelong.

Fair few 'fringe' players out of contract at the end of the year, but one I really hope we retain is Magor.
Came to us as a fwd/mid, but Truslove has been playing him down back, I assume because our fwd line was a dead zone earlier in the season and giving him an opportunity to get into the game and utilize his skills.
Good to see him get some mid/wing minutes this match and I thought took his opportunities drifting fwd as well.
Hope we get to see a few more fwd minutes from him in the weeks ahead.

Another guy out of contract at season's end is McAndrew.
I assume we'll extend him. Noticeable he was a key component in our 4Q fightback.

Arnold/Edwards was an interesting comparison.
Arnold is a good ball user, but I thought Edwards was better defensively.

We are unlikely to have many free spots.
Gould surely is gone.
Rankin bad 1Q, good 4Q. HKK came into the game.
They need to be putting 4Qs together at this stage of their career.
Cam Owen is interesting. He seemed to get more ruck time and generally be a bit more up and about v Geelong, but how many ruck prospects can we carry if we are considering adding May?

Looking forward to today's game.

Enjoyed reading this post. Agree with your comments about Magor. The move back has helped his involvement. It is clear he is smart and agood user of the ball.He is pretty light but Needs to improve his tackling.

Am enjoying watching the Arnold - Edwards combo develop. Think your comparison was fair. At the moment Arnold is playing more the role of intercepto/rebounder while Will has been more the lock down type. Suspect this could more Coaches’ direction as much as the strengths of the two.

My only issue with Cam Owen is that by the time he is developed and ready to play regular firsts, he will be in Tassies sights. if the Club is confident in keeping Owen and are happy with him, I doubt we will take May.

Cover for Tommy and Buddy?
For sure. Even if a smaller player goes down we have the flexibility to push someone like Heeney or Florent or McInerney to midfield.

Magor is classy, definitely a keeper. Owen I think will not be kept and Rankin would be lucky to be retained, good footballer but not quite quick enough to step up it seems to me.

Dear god, Francis as sub is a possibility... hopefully we take Warner, heck even Wicks off early so this isn't the case.
I'm probably the only person on here that thinks this, but I reckon Francis would make a pretty good sub. Can cover forward or back and as Grimlock said, if a small goes down there is plenty of other cover.

You would think a midfielder should be the sub every time. I mean what is the use of Francis if lets say Gulden goes down in the first 5 minutes.
And conversely, what is the good of someone like Corey Warner if Tom Mac or Buddy goes down early.

Better than last week where it was a super close game and for some reason Longmire didn't even bother to bring a fresh Clarke on.

Midfielders open up more avenues for changing things up during a game. A tall can only play as a tall (likely in one position) but a mid can allow you to move the chess pieces around a bit more.
To each their own, I actually see it the other way

A KPP as sub means we've got an extra tall loping around, or taking a bench spot that potentially undermanned mids etc can't use for a break. Not to mention, why do we need KPP cover against the Tigers? Can't 3 of Rampe, TMac, Melican, Fox hold Riewoldt, a backup ruck and a debutant? Can't Heeney just be the 3rd tall up forward?

callum mills come on back

Have to agree with this. Plenty of coverage. Also Warner was solid as sub last time against the Tigers

Fox who is a decent utility is best placed for a classic 23rd, tho I prefer him in the 22.

Yes Horse is rusted on to three talls, 2 mediums and one or two shorties.
