If Melbourne is willing to trade him away and their first and whatever else it takes to get pick 5 for Reid should tell us all we need to know.
Id much prefer we get GC pick 5 and trade 2 and 5 ourselves.

Reid, 3, 19 etc is far more appealing long term than Oliver, 3 and 14.
Last thing id do is help Melbourne out bid us.
Agree I’d also rather go for Harley reid

Than chase clarry

If we can somehow orchestrate getting pick one from wce before any shit goes down with Oliver,

I’d then think about it.

We are basically talking about reid vs clarry post meltdowns

The cost at a minimum will be 3 and 14 or 3 and fR1

We’ve got the opportunity but clarry could just as well lose his shit completely and we’ve burnt all of our draft hand

Due diligence hasn’t really been our forte for a while now.

I get the angle you are coming from, but what about if it all goes wrong?. How does it impact our group when his issues are lumped on them?. What’s it do to our cap for the future if it goes pear shaped?. What’s it do to the club in general, the media hounds will be all over us f*cking up yet again.

I get it, a chance at an absolute elite player for this footy club it’s rare and in a perfect world it would be great. But me personally, I don’t think we are anywhere close to being able to take on these issues. Again, there’s no way Melbourne are forcing him out if everything was sunshine and rainbows.

We haven’t had Viney and Clarko captaining the ship in the past.

I’m confident if he passes the sniff test (😂) from those two, it’s game on

I get the impression that the media and some BF members are of the opinion that North should be the one pushing for a trade with WC to secure Reid rather than the other way around. Given that WC have a massive rebuild ahead of them, I think the onus is on them to bring in additional first round draft picks to accelerate their rebuild. Reid might be good, but it is doubtful he'll make a massive difference on his own. I think we will be fine no matter how it pans out because of our strong draft hand. I'd rather we wait for WC to come to us so that we can do a deal with which we believe we can improve our draft outcome. We should have the upper hand in those negotiations.

I think we should just hit the draft, try and do a deal with GC or whomever for the 2024 future end of first round picks, despite moving on a number of players already. we still have a number of players that look miles off being walk up start in our side or have major issues to overcome.

We still have 15 or so players who are still currently on our list that are either aren't exactly best 22 or have major flaws. We have too many holes in our list to be in a position to overspend on one player.

A premiership team right in the middle of their window looking to trade out arguably their best player screams alarms bells.

Considering all the red flags and the big long term contract any trade would have to weigh heavily in the oppositions favour.

Also the info getting leaked about Oliver criticising Melbourne’s medical staff, not showing up to end of season club events and not being professional just about makes his position at Melbourne untenable. Why would someone at Melbourne release that info and potentially decrease his value? His manager would never release that info as it as the potential to cost his client hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Something doesn’t add up here imo.

Purely spitballing here but perhaps salary cap issues with Melbourne? Potentially trying to offload him to balance the books but want to paint it as if he is the issue?

Happy to be proven wrong in the fullness of time, but my strong sense was that none of the three articles in SEN, the Hun or the Age were coming from the Dees club officials backgrounding the journos.

Maybe Morris got some pieces of Oliver trivia earlier on from his fellow players that he wove in.

But it was the backgrounding from rival clubs that seemed to be generating the stories about how he was being shopped around.

if the rumours are true, and you really gotta wonder why melbourne would be shopping around an A+ grader with a 7 year contract while they are contending, then no
They have ample A grade midfielders. They showed this year they can win with one less. They need somebody who can kick goals

More likely they have gone **** we can’t have him on the books at a million a year if he is going to be this crook off field

Renegotiate with a new club and pay 300 of it and his new club can take the gamble

Crikey a few of you must be like lambs to the slaughter when you buy a house or car.

Oliver getting shopped is the equivalent of painting over the mould. Or winding back the odometer.

Before someone protests "but Clarko" - as much as I believe in him, this is the coach who flamed out with Scully, Garlett and Patton himself.

Clayton Oliver - do not touch.

Ironically enough, I get Ben Brown vibes.

Do not want Oliver, esp if picks 2 or 3 are involved. They will ask for 1 of them at least, there is a reason Melbourne are happy to let him go, it must be pritty bad because he is a gun 26 year old in his prime 🚨
