Haha that was what St Kilda asked for. Rawlings said no.
It never ceases to amaze me how speculative half truths from previous years' trade threads resurface as cast iron facts in subsequent years' trade threads. BigFooty at its finest.

If he's knocked back Sydney then he's not making footballing decisions.

If you were making this decision based purely on his skill set and how it would fit into the football system at the clubs courting him then Sydney were head and shoulders the place to go.

With the imminent departure of McKay, do we look at Nick Coughlan as a replacement?
Werribee Captain and named at CHB in the VFL Team of the Year for the second time.
27 years old and is 195cm. He averaged 20 touches, 7 intercepts and 8 rebounds from D50.
Looks pretty solid down back. I think that he’s worth a punt.

Smart move imo.

Younger coaches will be more relatable for the young group, I also think they bring different physical standards than 50+ year olds in Blakey, Ratten and Brown as an example.
Yep I’ve been thinking exactly this. We need at least one assistant pretty fresh out of the game. The Clarko factor should be bigger in attracting coaching rather than playing talent you’d think.

Craig McRae just turned 50. You can be fresh at that age (and equally you can have stale ideas much younger).

I daresay we're waiting to see what happens with the Richmond job too, might be hard for McQualter to go back if he misses.

Surely Clarkson has picked up the phone to Trent Cotchin too.

Oh I’m not saying you can’t be fresh at 50 (though personally I’m still a decade away, I have no doubt you can be fresh at 90 if you stay interested in the world). Moreso that having an new assistant fresh out of the game is a good idea, ideally to complement someone who has been around for a while, like X.Clarke or Dew.

I keep saying we have to explore these sorts of alternatives, can't keep going back to the same well and expecting a different result.

2023 retirees - McAsey, Seedsman, Adams, Rich, Curnow, McDonald-Tipungwuti, Phillips, Ceglar, Smith, Blakely, Davis, Lloyd, Lynch, Hibberd, Cunners, Ziebs, Hall, Jonas, Castagna, Cotchin, Riewoldt, Tarrant, Franklin, Hickey, McCartin, Hurn, Naitanui, Shuey, Bruce.

Based on nothing more than their leadership as players, viewed from afar I'd consider - Smith, Davis, Cotchin, Hurn and Shuey. No idea whether any of them already have plans.

From 2022 - Again just based on their playing record and apparent leadership - Mundy, Selwood, Gray, Kennedy x 2, McEvoy perhaps, Shane Edwards.

So the AFL will give us a future 2nd and 3rd round pick again so we can trade for Fisher and Stephens and call it a day? And the other clubs will still scream that it's overs. Is that how it's looking?

I’ll vomit if something this gets up, especially after last years Geelong deal.

Chol's money will be overrated. He was a band 4 free agent and only has two years left, we're talking probably $800k.

Not to mention point wise, which is relevant here, that deal has Adelaide paying the equivalent of pick 14 for Chol. They're getting reamed.

I'd do it. Give him a couple of years.
The leadership alone would be worth it.
