Will have to walk past a box in his 4th year?
Nah he will only have to acknowledge cardboard boxes actually exist in a 15 second presentation to the Visy board.

About year 6 he gets to walk past a box and that will trigger his bonuses.

42. Kallan Dawson

It will be interesting to see how he goes after his first pre-season in a fully professional environment. He did not look out of place in the games he played which is a fair achievement given he only joined us mid year. The recruitment of Griff doesn’t help him as we are unlikely to play another key tall in defence. I reckon he’ll start in the VFL but if he displays the interception skills he was recruited for he‘ll put pressure on Corr et al.

Well if big bustling benny mckay leaves north due to us having another shite season.

One would suggest we'd already have pick one, the compo would be pick 2 then the PP's would be pick 3. Plus change.

So 1,2 & 3 and Poorts first of course.

Blardy heck nearly worth it :p
Key word, nearly. All the top five draft picks in the world don't make up for a good key defender ready and willing to strut his stuff

Quite possible that we will be lousy again, basically because the guys we think are OK are just not up to it
not at all unlikely that Cunners will struggle, that Goldy will hit the wall, that Bonar and Comben are unable to get on the park add Hall to that list and cross fingers for Perez
JZ Turner probably Shiels 32 this year Greenwood 31and then the Desperado club CCJ xerri edwards

ok that’s a dozen, and one wonders what Clarko makes of Stepho and Spicer and 2 blokes I think are incredibly suspect Zurhaar and Larkey. Z has no footy brain, he has talent but absolutely one dimensional, and Larkey this whole board just makes endless excuses for. He is a momentum killer, he chokes Would not be remotely surprised if Clarko pinpoints these 2 as major contributors to our 7 wins in 70 games record
But I am expecting Massive Improvement in every area and just facing the fact that a lot of these players that have physical issues just never come good eg Garner Walker EVW Jacobs all unlucky
i think 2024 will look like this

Archer BMac LMac
Logue Dawson Thomas
Tucker Simpkin Scott
Curtis Comben George
Sheezel Larkey Drury
X LDU Phillips
Powell Young CCJ Taylor
hmmmm,,,, So you've written off Cunners despite him renewing for 2 years, and Wardlaw a bust????

Carlton will have a fight to keep DeKoning away from Geelong.

Cap space is going to be a big issue for them.
yeah, they jumped the gun paying significant spondoolis for martin, saad, williams, etc....and of course have to pay up for mckay, cripps, walsh, weitering...I just can't see everyting falling into place for them.

43. Aaron Hall

If a young, developing side re-signs an injury prone 32 year old he must have something going for him. I am not sure that Clarko will continue with the ‘give it to Hally as often as possible‘ plan when coming out of defence. His main role may be in mentoring our young HBs on when to run off their man and kicking options. Hopefully he will have handed over the rebounding defender mantle by end of 2023.

They've managed to work through difficult salary cap space issues in the past. I'm sure that they will come to some arrangement.

Goodness gracious me. I know we have a lot of ground to make up, but I don't think we are quite that bad, given our recruiting and who we will have available again this year, in particular Cunners.

But if you are right we are in that much trouble, I might take up watching lawn bowls or something.

Yes of course I was taking the p!55, the AFL would be mortified if we walked away with the first 3 picks in the draft.

Just I dislike the whole "x player" is leaving if we don't improve. He's a RFA so it's on us anyways. He won't be leaving and Also we now view the amount TT is getting as overs. Ben has played 52 games of AFL, so will be very interesting to see what is required financially to have him stay.

The system is broken and does not much sense it make. ( yes you read that right) An FS must play 100 games it doesn't matter how many years he's on a list. You could be a great player and have 3 knee reco's and play 91 games after 15 bloody years.

An FA doesn't matter how many games you play, just as long as you're on a list. WTF?

I mean look at this...

That's big bad bustling Benny McKay's career, the amount invested in him by a club with then limited resources is obvious. Of course, he was drafted in 2015, but didn't get a game in 2016, but apparently, that counts toward your FA status.
We'd hate to lose him and if we did it would mean two first-rounders have left us in successive seasons. Oh boy, we would then be in a similar position to the GC and would then be allegeable for similar compensation. I fwiw would hate that.

Can't wait till crazy crackers Charlie Comben is a RFA, won't be too much longer. Might have 16 games to his name by then :p

I remember being a tad concerned when FA was announced that it could impact heavily on the smaller clubs. The AFL stated it would be good for that peripheral type players to assist them in getting games. It really has only been successful for decent types and driven their value through the roof.
To be talking about BM being worth 700K odd is crazy.

I think he'll stay fwiw.

In my opinion, given that he is now in the Leadership group, if we can win say 5 to 6 games this year and exhibit some good signs, he will stay.

And apart from joining his brother, why would he want to go to Carlton anyway? They have been threatening to make the finals for a year or two now and just about everyone thinks they are a flag threat. Really?!?!?!

I reckon there is half a dozen teams better equipped right now to win a flag ahead of Carlton and despite their "amazing" ability to fit people within their salary cap. I suggest some other teams might have better prospects and capacity to grab him.

McKay should be the lynchpin of our backline for at least another 6/7 years.

You don’t skimp on those type of players.

Number one priority to sign. Over any player imo. If he goes it’s going to set our backline back years and years.

We must give him a long contract.

He will get even better too

Right when one considering we have a new coaching regime with a hunger for success. Who survives into 2024. all OOC at seasons end

  1. Hall
  2. Bonar
  3. Comben
  4. Howe
  5. Perez
  6. Free
  7. Greenwood
  8. Mahony
  9. Ziebell
  10. Archer
  11. Edwards
  12. Goater
  13. Turner
  14. Young
  15. Bergnan
  16. Spicer
  17. Goldy
Wow that's a lot but not much of a lot.

Also as we have 2 first rounders how do we get pick 1 if as a suspect we aint finishing last. We have some guys that have currency that while being good aren't necessarily important due to having others similar.

I want pick one we need to be aggressive.

Can’t help you with your luck 1 fantasy but this is my early prediction for list turn over;

Kept
  1. Bonar - if the body gives him a full year
  2. Comben - lock
  3. Perez - lock
  4. Free - if he plays well 1 year ext
  5. Greenwood - if he plays well 1 year ext
  6. Archer - lock
  7. Edwards
  8. Goater - lock
  9. Young - lock
  10. Bergman - lock
  11. Goldy - the body willing and not overtaken
Gone
  • Hall - retire
  • Howe - retire
  • Ziebell - retire
  • Turner
  • Spicer
  • Mahony
