I’m hoping it’s Esava’s manager leaking lies to Edmund in order for Port to up their offer.

Esava to Port has been agreed upon for over 12 months now. We would need to offer something this ridiculous to get him to come to us but surely, surely this isn’t true.
I think what you'll find is Edmund will rarely mention teams still in finals while they are playing, as they would still be tuned into SEN. I'm going to take a guess and say approx 80% of what he says is entirely fictional and aimed at teams out of finals to ensure they are still engaged with the station.

At the end of the day, it's a business that derives its income from advertising $$ and that will always take precedence over reporting facts.

This Esava 'news' beggars belief.
Geelong would also feel obligated to ask for compensation that reflects the length and size of the deal. Yes he is OOC but it's a messy proposition.

The thing that's making me like the idea of Esava is the fact that Port are so interested in him.

I didn't rate Aliir at Sydney but Port identified his talent and made him into a great key defender. Port have been chasing Esava for awhile now which makes me think they see the same in him.

7 years would make my head spin though and I don't believe that bit.

You'd have to march him to the PSD to go even close to justifying the money outlay.

Would be great but WC want Curtain and the only way to trade Pick 1 and still get Curtain is with NM.
There's bluff and risk involved but let's be honest, there is no chance North are taking a West Australian with their first pick after the JHF disaster and given the quality of Vic kids available.

I don’t believe that part is true. Let’s leave it at that.

Would love you to expand on that.

One has 7 years of AFL development.
The other 18 months.

And the gap isn't a big one.
As much as I would like to assist with your melt going on currently, I wont

If its not obvious that Esava would get a game over Blanck in our backline easily currently, your being purposely blind

I love Blanck, but he has zero offensive weapons, and gets monstered by the gorillas

He doesn't have an athletic or skill based upside

Clubs never tell journos all their plans and secrets. The journos get all their info from what clubs think other clubs will do and then player managers also use the media to try and get better deals/outcomes for their clients as it adds to their pay packet.

Blanck is reliable with ball in hand, despite not being a high possession winner.
He also has elite closing speed and is strong enough to at least compete with stronger KPF's.

He also has time on his side from a development perspective, having only joined the elite program 18 months ago.

If Esava had excelled in his first season as a key position defender like James Sicily, Liam Jones and Darcy Moore, I'd see the game we're rumoured to be playing.

Ratagulea had some decent games this year, but also showed his deficiencies which he hasn't corrected after 7 full AFL pre-seasons. Dropped marks, poor disposal and incorrect positioning at times.

He's not a player you move heaven and Earth from a salary and contractual perspective to bring to bring to your club. When, as was originally mentioned, we have James Blanck doing an adequate job with greater potential for development (at least IMO).

And there are of course many individuals within clubs, with different levels of knowledge and some are more loose lipped than others.

His stats are no better, I'd argue worse, than two whipping boys on our list who are looking down the barrel of being traded or delisted.

The type of money and deal length being thrown around here is pure insanity and frankly it's the type of thing I'd expect from Carlton.

And yet it's still about 5 million over 7 years too much for a player like Esava.
No one could look at the list of players and say that any of those blokes are making a difference for their club.

Reckon Logue is the only one too early to tell, but for the other 3 the clubs would certainly rescind if they had their time again. Saints are reportedly putting Howard on the trade table, so hardly the indication of a resounding success.
