Thank god we have salary cap room and the CBA is increasing then
An increase in salary cap is no excuse to pay bad players big contracts unless they're benefiting us in some other way. A big deal to an okay player in order to get some sort of draft consideration I'm okay with, but a big deal for an okay player that Geelong will make us pay through the teeth for is just ridiculous.

If we get Ratugolea we'll use him as a forward/ruck, not a key defender. He's quite decent in that role imo
Have you watched him in that role? He is a better defender and that is saying something. He is a terrible forward who can somewhat compete in the ruck.

For what its worth

I dont trust the 5 mil over 7 years

Especially when the source is "I've spoke to a few other clubs"

What the hell would other clubs know

lol what theres no ****ing way this is true. we made a lot of list decisions over the past ~7 years that haven't worked but we have always avoided exorbitant salaries and long contract lengths. why would we suddenly change for a decidedly mediocre player? while also "in the lead" for Henry, making a play for McKay and loading up for King and Smith etc. next year?

it contraditcs all of the principles the HFC have traditionally held. while Sam has been at the club we have signed plenty of young stars without going near 7 years. Amon was 4. And MM has been around for a while now and done nothing even close to this, whether it was Sam or Clarko. so unless something has drastically changed, it simply cannot be true.

as others have mused it's possible he's getting walked through the PSD, which is one of the very few things that make sense. we would want to be paying him ~2m+ of that over the next 2 seasons though

I swear upon lord almighty Sir Matthew Spangler himself, that if we pay 5mil for or even sign let alone float the idea of having a bloke who embodies “built like Tarzan, plays like Jane” on our list when he should be working register at Belmont KFC, I will lose my genuine shite and not in a “woo we got him” way but more a “Someone get Sam off the see through didgeridoo” way

The only Chance that happens is if we really want Reid. DGB Brocky and 3 for 1.

Hodge style trade moment.

Can’t see it happening though
I’m not sure the Eagles would even take this. If they just drafted Reid with pick 1 and he wants to leave, they are getting at least 2 firsts back for him.

It locks them into 3 WA boys, Curtin included but I think they can get greater value for Reid.

This will set their rebuild back though. They won't be drafting Reid with a buy low sell high mentality.

Rather persist with Frost over Esava he’s better with ball in hand… if we give Esava a massive deal it could genuinely destroy our rebuild… would be a worse recruit than Vickery…

Ben McKay would be awesome as a free hit and even better if North somehow get 2nd rd compo…

Has a player ever left Geelong and been better? It’s generally the other way round. Lots of examples
