Franko I am even prepared to offer up an extra pick to get it done.

I know I will get mowed down but reckon right now adding a generational talent would be awesome
Totally agree. Look to FA/Trade for our key cogs and we are on the ride to our next premiership.

We would have signed Will for longer but managers tell their clients to sign through to free agency
Fine, we offered Sic 5 years then - and he's our captain, an AA level defender and arguably the best player on our list. Ratugolea is a bloke who has been in and out of the senior side and positionless at Geelong for his entire career.

Sam Edmund:

Matt Crouch (Adelaide)

“They’re definitely shopping Matt Crouch. He’s another one who is looking for a new home.

“Geelong would be a big surprise. I would be shocked by that.

“But definitely he’s out there, he’s on the market.”

Triple M:

On the Rush Hour with Bernie, Blewey and Jars, Bernie Vince has revealed Crows midfielder Matt Crouch is set to re-sign with the club and turn his back on interstate interest.

“Deserves it too… he’ll be at Adelaide next year.”

“He’s a good person to have at the footy club.”

Clubs never tell journos all their plans and secrets. The journos get all their info from what clubs think other clubs will do and then player managers also use the media to try and get better deals/outcomes for their clients as it adds to their pay packet.

Rob McCartney has come out and told everyone we have cash to spend and we will be chasing Key Position as a priority.

Perhaps part of our strategy here is to constantly be in the news with us “linked” to players to let the Hawks faithful know we have been in discussions with players and not sitting back doing nothing.

It is a genuine risk locking in star players who are legit different makers for 7 years. It is a huge huge gamble offering good solid best 22 players 5+ years.

Offering a fringe best 22 player who is a failed forward and below average to average defender a 7 year deal may legitimately be the worst contract in AFL history. Just the idea of it is so ridiculous that i do not believe it and will not until it actually gets confirmed. I do not even think the Suns at peak clown show would offer that deal.

Can’t understand why Esava is a more enticing proposition than McKay… one is a free agent the other is a trade. Yes North can force a trade, I feel this loop hole needs to close as you either offer a contract too good to leave on or you lose him as a free agent and compensation is relative to status. Age, games experience and rank among the games best players.

Matching should not be an option. Offer your best and move on.

At the moment The formula is money.

Rather persist with Frost over Esava he’s better with ball in hand… if we give Esava a massive deal it could genuinely destroy our rebuild… would be a worse recruit than Vickery…

Ben McKay would be awesome as a free hit and even better if North somehow get 2nd rd compo…

This Esava 'news' beggars belief.
Geelong would also feel obligated to ask for compensation that reflects the length and size of the deal. Yes he is OOC but it's a messy proposition.
He is OOC and can nominate these terms for PSD. If North or Eagles want to take him on those terms fine. On these terms, he is a freehit like McKay or Gresham.

PS : disagree with the terms

Yep the 700-800 if that’s what we are looking to spend on a gorilla give me Mckay over Esava please.

I am confused why every one is just assuming he will be walked to PSD. Is this to help everyone thinking it is a shocking offer? Don't forget the CBA is about to go up meaning that the AAV will be lower in the % of the cap sheet. Also agreed that if that number was anything near close that it would be heavily front ended because why not?

However the walking to the PSD is spoken about on BF way more than it ever happens, it is actually pretty rare, since 2010 Hawthorn has only made two PSD picks and it is Cam Bruce and Michael Hartley, neither were big time contracts that made them land with them. Bruce had been delisted by Melbourne and Hartley had turned down a one year deal at Essendon to pick up a two year deal at Hawthorn.

I would back in Edmund being wrong over Hawthorn forcing him to the PSD.
