When can trades be requested?

Looking back Amon nominated us end of last August, JHF requested a trade start of October after season had completed.

Sammy will remember the difference Brian L made to our team (who came much later than we needed him).
Made a massive difference but...

1. Was a better player, Bulldogs B&F winner, 2x all Australian, at that time held the league record for intercept marks
2. Came cheap both in terms of salary and assets, late second/early third rounder essentially (slight pick downgrade and 41)
3. Was on a short term deal

None of these things apply to Esava who would be overpaid, on a monster deal and has one year of middling defensive performances to anchor his price to.

I know this doesn't mean anything to some people but Sic and McKay started following each other on Instagram today.
Honestly, in my experience the slight social media changes have been fairly prophetic. Someone starts following someone else, biographies change and so on. In recent years I think players have caught on to it and play their cards a bit closer to their chest, or even follow other players / teams just to be funny buggers and see what gets a bite.

Just in the mood for this shit today

I really don't mind offering esava such a big deal. Even though we have signed on a few players to big contracts this year, with Mitchell and omeara properly coming off the books now we're probably in a position to heavily front end a deal for a key back. If this was the case and rat then sat on a deal for 4-5 years after we have paid off a significant chunk on 400-500k then I'm fully on board.

Too early to create a welcome Ben McKay thread?

Agree, I think it's naive to assume these things mean nothing in this day and age. It's not coincidence and majority of the time ends up that way.

I'll admit I made this call with us and Bruhn last year, although this was prior to the Hopper curveball.

Also at the time we were simply one piece away from a 3peat dynasty, not third last in the midst of a rebuild.

The eagles currently have pick 19 & their next pick being 35, they won't be giving up 19 for Brockman so a pick in the 30s will be the best we can hope for.
My view is that pick 38 + 54 would be fair considering the situation and how we could utilise points this year. That equates to about pick 28 (685 points).

Lake is one of the most talented defenders of his generation, he accomplished a ton and you can make a case he still didn't reach his full potential.

Should never be a comparison made between him and either McKay or Esava.

The question is..... Would you trade pick 3 for Ben McKay and pick 4? Which is effectively what is going to happen with North getting free agency compensation. I think I would.

Absolutely especially when there is a clear Pick 1 (and 2 with Walter) and a logjam at 3-6.
